The weak but present basis of the intended humor was that women are supposedly nonexistant on the internet, particularly in an MMO, followed up by the standard iteration of the sandwich joke. There's nothing offensive there, unless you're looking to be offended. It's not funny, but to take it seriously is to fulfill the joke's purpose in inspiring ridiculous reactions, as this thread demonstrates. Hence my joke at the end solidified my position as satan incarnate, and inspired a rib-splittingly heartfelt condemnation. Very few people who joke like that are actually horrible people... it should be obvious that Vendayn isn't, and my horribleness is hopefully better concealed. If you're unable to see the ridiculousness of that reaction, there's nothing I can do for you. Good luck with the crusades.

I agree. Any girly friends or girlfriends I've convinced to try gaming avoid voice coms in pubs like the plague, for good reason. But like most of the internet's social problems, in my experience it's better ignored than responded to, which was my main point here. Randomly coming in defense of a nonexistent victim at every breach of one of one's arbitrarily outlined ideals is almost as bad as the mindless trolling. First of all using a bunch of long words in quick succession does not make you sound smart and it does not make your ideas sound smart so you can cut that right out. Secondly I'm going to address this on a point by point basis:

First of all not true. The intended humor was that a woman's PLACE is not the internet. Their PLACE is in the kitchen making you a sandwich.
Second of all false because there are plenty of women on the internet.

Ah yes because it's always better not to make a stand when people are doing the wrong thing... Again... That is... As long as it's not YOU that's being affected. Because who cares about other people right? How dare they be different to you.
If you don't like being called names in a game, leave and go somewhere else. If your soft cushy feelings are hurt by the words of complete strangers that don't even know who you are or what you are like, then how you are going to survive life, I do not know. Also, with the groups I play with, my personal experience is, that YES, it IS OK to make horrible racial slurs, call people faggots, and crack crude jokes about national stereotypes
while on the internet in a non professional setting(IE: pub servers, or in a personal chat with people you have been playing with for a while that are of the same school of thought), because that's the way those communities are, and nobody is serious about it, and nobody expects anyone to take it to heart. Stand downstream from a river and tell it to stop and flow the other way, and that's about as much as getting upset about the way people on games communicate is going to fix your problem.
edit: Either way, this is getting way out of hand and I really suggest that any involved only reply one more time if you really feel you need to, cause otherwise I forsee this thread tanking. The real solution to assholes on the internet is not using chat at all, or playing in a more controlled chat environment like certain clan servers on FPS games and such. If you are going to pub, expect it to be lewd, crude, and socially unacceptable.
