DF Bug Reports / Re: [40d] Killer ax-wielding scorpions!
« on: January 18, 2010, 03:56:20 am »
Any beast that [GRASP]s as part of its combat repertoire will end up beating you to death with your underwear, if you're unlucky.

Although apparently you're really unlucky. Possibly it wrestled the axe away from you, or possibly it was what Eric Blank said.

Still a kickass scorpion, though. You realize that that scorpion, thanks to killing you, will now go down in history as some sort of scorpion berserker?

I'm gonna call it a feature, since it makes perfect sense. ;D

That's a bug? I thought it was HFS related (never had it occur myself).

DF Modding / Re: Test Your Might: FORTRAL KOMBAT! (work in progress)

I actually just watched the movie some days ago (totally worth it, and a firm contender against the version of Street Fighter with Raul Julia and Jean Claude Van-Damme for best early video game movie adaptation), and I have a couple of ideas.

I could set the player characters as Play Now unique creatures with powers the main races don't have. For example, as melee attacks the 'Scorpion' Play Now fellow has his firebreath - it's a fatality, so 50:100:BURN >:) - and his spear in the form of that weird snake-thing that comes out of his palm.

Or I could just have people play as main-race characters.

I play Adventure mode most of the time, so as that doesn't really affect gameplay much I don't consider it cheating. ;D

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Friendly megabeast — what to do?
« on: January 17, 2010, 10:28:30 am »
Holy Mittens had a Blue and Black Dragon (I think) show up at the fort Cacame Awesomedinade was living in.

One was friendly. The other was not.

Epic battle ensued.

I haven't played Fort Mode in a while, though, so I've never had friendly megabeasts show up.

You're implying that A) people aren't selfish and b) resources can be equally distributed, to hell with geography.

...

I just... dunno.

Maybe [CAN_SPEAK] or [CAN_LEARN]/[SLOW_LEARNER] act like [CAN_CIV] as long as there's an entity entry?

Or...

I fear to say it, but...

Maybe [CAN_CIV] has no real function? :o

Wait five more years.

If he's physically strong enough to break Tarzan in half over his knee by then, then he's definitely Dwarven Mowgli.

General Discussion / Re: War on Earthquakes
« on: January 17, 2010, 09:31:20 am »
Yeah, I'm sure Servant Corps is pretty pissed off about this.  What y'all need to realize is that humor is the only reactionary mechanism we cynics have.

It's not really humorous. The United States does spend a lot of money trying to win the War on Terror, presumably to save lives, but there is no war on earthquakes, even though such a war could save even more lives. A War on _____ is merely a propaganda tool to rally support for a cause, and the earthquake in Haiti seems like a perfect time to use such a propaganda tool, considering that real people did suffer.

I don't know, it's really the only way I can express sympathy towards those that died in earthquakes.

Maybe it's a logistics thing? As far as I know, we still have difficulty predicting storms, because they're so -random.
