Also the dwarf can't possibly wear a leather bodysuit
You underestimate the depravity of dwarves.
. Sure it's useful in Adventure mode, where each event type has a corresponding color (attack, injured, mangled) but looking at the log is painful.
Unfortunately it doesn't confer any protection on the dwarves. I hope that will be added in.I've never actually modded anything, but would there be a way to change the "skin" dropped from an animal to just be a generic piece of skin? Thus it turns into a generic piece of leather, and problem solved.
Also, you'll only need chain/plate when you start meeting the Crossbow Lords the gobbos send at you. Ther are many horror stories of them taking down entire squads of marksdwarves who are three z levels up and behind fortifications.
No, leather inherits certain qualities from the creature it comes from. Fire imp leather, for example, will not burn in fire/magma.
Really? That could be useful. Does it protect dwarven feet from magma? Or does it just refuse to get set on fire, but has no use beyond that?

Actually, if I recall correctly, when you add stuff to the tomb the dead dwarf is now shown to own it.
This is going to come into play once necromancy comes back, I'm certain of it.
By unexpected, I meant people you thought were gonna die but survived through the ambush/siege
*Phantom uses a net to catch the falling*
I don't have the attention to read TVTropes.
Who started the elf hating craze in the first place?
