DF General Discussion / Re: Df Presentation

Now I only wish I could have seen it.
well, thanks. It was in norwegian...I don't quite see how you would've gotten much out of it, but I do get what you mean, thanks :)
Yeah, that sounds like a huge success to me. Glad to hear that your presentation turned out well, grade-wise and interest-wise. Pretty cool if some of them end up playing.
Thanks to you too. It turned out really well, thanks to this community.
At least one of them ended up playing it for a bit, and I'm probably going to give him some resources to work with too. A bunch of others seemed interested like all hell, though not all of them have the time to play, considering the exams are coming up.Would be badass if they remembered afterwards :)
The whole class asked for more actually, including the teacher, who is well over 50 years of age. Good stuff :)

But I was the only one in my class who managed to awaken some interest in what I was talking about.
What I mean with that is that they all asked questions, even the girls :)

My wife gets bored when I talk about DF T.T If you have found a girl interested in such a game, go for it. Such females are rare and most likely interesting. That or they be playin' ya, yo.
Tja, all of the girls seemed interested, going on to ask me some questions after class. I feel like a hero somehow >.>
However, that is unlucky... I wish you the best. My girlfriend wants me to teach her the game, and that was after some talk by me.  I encourage you to try to persuade her, though don't be creepy about it :P

Wow, this thread is about on the verge of being dead. Well, it kinda is.
I just thought I might Inform you on the outcome of the presentation.
It's now a couple days since I had it, but I got pretty clear feedback from the teacher:
It's a solid 5+ (I think that is the same as a B+ or something).

What I find most funny about this though, is that this is a pretty darn niche game(kinda),
and all of my classmates are hardcore athletes, except for maybe two or three...But I was
the only one in my class who managed to awaken some interest in what I was talking about.
What I mean with that is that they all asked questions, even the girls :)
And they seemed generally excited to hear about it. I kept talking and answering questions
for at least 5 minutes after the presentation was done, and considering that all the other
15 or so presentations went by without a single question, I call that a win.

Thank you all for your input, I actually used a lot of the material you guys wrote here.
It made it all so much better :)

Once again the Bay12games community prevails!

Thanks, guys, for the really, really good replies. You touched on a lot of the subjects I was hoping to squeeze into the presentation, and I'll try to put in as many of these as possible :P

Maybe you should be more specific about what the class is, or what sort of overarching point you want to make is...
Yeah, the class is my Norwegian class, and I'm not supposed to make a point. We got a task right before the summer break, as a sort of easy, fun, quick thing, and my teacher asked me if I could, perchance, enlighten the class about my favourite game or something, since he knows I do that sort of thing.
It's just for me to "present it" if you will, to the class(but I suspect; mostly the teacher) and just talk about who made it, what's the point, and what makes it special. hope that helps :)

Feel free to add more if you guys want, I'll put my ears up sharp for the next days till I'm doing these things.

So, dear bay12 community.

I'm having a presentation in my Norwegian class about Dwarf Fortress in a few days(teacher's weird, don't ask) and I wondered what I should talk about...
Then it hit me: why not ask you guys what YOU would like me to talk about?
That might be more fun :P

so, anything you'd like me to talk about in particular? Anything you think I should put in there? Just say what and I'll be happy to see if I can put it in there, and I'll give feedback once I'm done with it :)

If I wasn't busy those days, I would probably take a flight over from Norway(with some bus time...) just to get there. Would be frickin' awesome. Too bad, I'll make it next time :C

A bit too short for an elf, no? He looks like a hippie alladdin kender to me :P. Great style, by the way, I like your interpretation (Alladdin due to a vest which looks like a vest of the prince of thieves in a cartoon).
Well, yeah, I think I've explained my views on the df elves before? I don't know, but I believe they have the same mass as a human in game. not sure. However, due to the abundance of dyes when they trade with me(every god damn time) as well as cloth, I've come to imagine they look like huge eyesores traversing the woods. But, thanks : ) fun way to look at it.
That's a gorgeous elf, Tofu! That's something like I imagine them.
Thanks a lot, and...really? And here I thought I was special : P

School caught up with me apparently, and I haven't been able to do any sort of drawing or painting for a long while. This sat around on my laptop nearly finished until my harddrive crapped out on me, so I redid the coloring, and tweaked it. I usually develop a lot over just one month, or less, so I see a lot in this painting that I would never let fly now : O Weird how that works.
But yeah, as promised, I did an elf. On to a a cave fish man then! : )
Hope you like it : P

I wish I could say that this is awesome, but streams #1,#2 and #3 don't work for me. And stream #4 just asks for a verifiable user name and password, then when I enter them and press ok the prompt gets reopened, blank...
Sad, since this seemed really, really awesome : O

haven't been here in a while....
anyways: some kind of practice I did a couple days ago. Focus was on value rather than detail or getting things to look the right shape or whatever. + I can't resize it right now, just zoom out or something?
Also: NSFW or something

sorry for the size...can't use tinypic on my computer for some bizarre reason , and I can't be arsed to find out an alternative.

it got...kinda butchered by the Jpeg reformatting or whatever..for some reason the colors are messed up too. But whatever, just zoom out or something.
I'm starting a long project portraying as many races as I can get my hands on in the DF universe : O
hope you like : )
Sorry to tout my own gun here, but  this is how I look at them all. Tolkien-esque, only more like sturdier, slightly shorter humans.

Radical how ?
I'm not sure
Well then I'll take that as more awesome : )

You know, I've thought about this a lot before, and I really hope that Toady works on this for many, many years forward.
I don't know of the challenges ahead, but I'd very much like it for him to complete his goals with the game, as well as Threetoa.
I don't have much more to say, but I'd like it for there to be more recreational things in the game (bards, games etc.) and some more "pointless" people doing things in the fortress, like town criers, philosophers, painters and such.
Writing would be cool to have implemented, with books and stuff recording history and fiction.... and guilds and guild halls and such would be amazing too.
Who knows? this game is by far the best I've ever played, and It only improves over the years...like a nice wine or whiskey I must say.
Curious to see what others have to say >.>

Thanks for the compliments, guys : )
I love it. Can you do cave fish men next?
And I was planning on doing elves, then humans, then maybe the other "lesser" races....but sure, I can probably dig up  a cavefish-man thingie after the elf....I really want to paint those rainbow freaks >.>
