I can bring proof for 3 starting wagons. In a couple of minutes.

I believe that this will change in the future - after all Magma cools in real life without the use of water. Forges/smelters use its heat but do not deplete it so even then, this will be the least of your troubles.

I see. Will bushes and saplings still spawn on these grass tiles? At the same rates or rarer? Stepping on it too often reverts it to soil too?

Also: What effects does it have and what is to be done to prevent it?

I use captured elves as test subjects for "burning-lignite-block-filled-bins" and my new breed of modded war elephants

DF Gameplay Questions / Swimming War Elephants?
« on: August 03, 2009, 08:10:06 pm »
I made elephants trainable in the raws and tamed the captured ones and trained them to War Elephants. In order to maximize their power I plant to put them all in a 4/7 water tank. Will it work or are animals unaffected by swimming like fish?

Related Question: Will submerging my bookkeeper at training's office in 4/7 water train both of the skills simultaneously?

Yeah. My trader (the cretin) slept, then got a drink, went on break, got food, went on break and by that time the caravan had almost left, so instead of hoping to get him there in time, I just stole everything I wanted. I think it was all wood, so they didn't care much...

Happened to me too. Just draft the trader and release him. This should cancel the break.

Thanks. I don't see any reason to put wood in stockpiles till i establish a real fortress and not an outpost so I leave it there and there is no way I'll use 2500 logs for years and wood grows back and I will chop it again.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Elfs and trees

My first time on a map with lots of trees so I didn't bring any logs. I made all my Dwarfs fell trees and immigrants etc. while making additional bronze axes on the go.

So my question is: how angry will the elves be after discovering ~2560 trees has been cut?

So here's an odd one.

Look at this section of my fort, the tombs, in DF :

Now look at it in Visual Fortress :

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Having every door at a 30 degree angle isn't quite dwarfy to me. No, that kind of.... TILTEDness is far more elfin than dwarfy.

Also, every time I load a map I get the following Non-fatal (It still loads and I can still zoom around) error :

"Unable to open image C:MyGamesDFVisual Fortress v0.701Texturestone smooth1.jpg" the file in the directory is a .png file. Not a major issue at all, but worth mentioning.

to fix the curving the only way is to disable noise
for solving the second problem go to data/tiletypes,csv and change all the "stone_smooth1.jpg" instances to "stone_smooth1.png"

It's probably because of the author's oversight.
