Apologies, I hadn't realised I had been dwarfed already. Gordy dwarf plays out as an eccentric but gifted glassmaker. He/she has all skills required of a glassmaker/glass blower - patience, and a delicate and artistic hand. With the permission of the Mayor (and maybe the doctors help), I would like to have him build a glassmakers suite as close as possible to collectable sand but to ensure the entirety of the suite is walled in stone. This suite should contain at least one glassmakers station, stockpiles for raw glass and sandbags. If I can have no apprentices, I would like all other dwarves switched off from glassmaking and have Gordy collect sand x 2 and create raw glass on repeat for now. The suite should also contain a bedroom, study and dining room for Gordy (they can be the whole room). I would like the first things made to include a glass portal, glass table and chairs for his room. Eventually the whole suite should be paved in green glass with smoothed rock walls.

If there are no bags to collect sand, please build a loom for Gordys use to make the bags himself.
If there is no sand on the map, please request some purchased from the merchants.
(can you please confirm we have sand on the map?)

Thanks mate...I've never played a succession but read plenty. I usually use a tileset tho so see how we go.

OK. SO I really enjoyed the original Dwarf Heaven map because it had everything in it. So I grabbed this seed and threw it into my LNP which is version 31.21. I normally dont have a ton of luck with pre-seeded or pre-genned worlds looking anything like they are supposed to so I was pleased with myself for the work gen turning out pretty much how it is supposed to, and finding the 5x5 embark pretty much as stated.

Until I start to play. Now my PC isnt a sloth but it took way longer to load than normal. I thought, its 5x5 so give it a little time. Finally it loaded and I'm scouting around the map. It doesnt look exactly how it is supposed to - there's half dead trees, a big frozen section but the brook is there and so is the magma pipe.

And so is the greatest f'd up looking mountain in history. It is seriously like someone reached into the ground while it was still forming and wrenched out a HUGE glob of the world and stretched it up as high as they could go. Its like a cavern erupted and shot its guts ONE THOUSAND Z LEVELS into the sky. There's probably two screens worth of vaguely square mountain but with what looks like tiny caves, or something, but when I got to the top ( was determined to get to the top! ) there's fungiwood and other cavernous plants. The top is at z1172. I'm still waiting for my pc to un-pause. I doubt it ever will. If someone can talk me through how to save a screenshot, I have one of the top level.

I will answer my own question a bit by adding you cannot process sweet pods to pots, only barrels if you want sweet sweet syrup.

Thanks to pots ability to hold food and drinks are these any reasons to use wood for barrels? Stone being in such supply and usually junk to be disposed of, can wood sole be used for bins and beds now? Are there any plans to make bin equivalents from other than precious wood or metal?

You could say that. The majority is flat and wet but the volcano extends aboveground about 12 z. The mama was just under the surface when the map started and has been slowly draining away ever since. The volcano is kinda squareish so it might cross a biomedical

I have two FP's

1. Not realising until now (after playing DF for years) that I could build aboveground crops belowground so long as I channeled out above them. There goes all my frustration at not being able to place nice, regularly shaped gardens aboveground (because of rocks, boulders and trees)

2. My latest version magma pipe discovered and now is draining into the magma sea ~ 50 levels below.. I liked that magma on the surface and its slowly draining away!

i genned a 31.13 map which created almost exactly the same shaped volcano. I'd increased the volcano min and slightly increased min volcanism.

Ah but i set the MIN water to 5 -  shouldnt that be enough to ensure some water in my cavern for underground plants?

i've started playing on my girlfriends mac laptop, and none of the embarks will allow underground plants like plump helmets. i dug down to a cavern and there was nothing there at all, no trees or anything. I must admit I had been biasing the worldgen for high volcanism (i wanted a flat embark with surface magma), 2 very open caverns (low density, high openness) with 5 min water and low maximum ( i hate flooded caverns ). Will this effect the cavern plants and trees?
