Late Obsidian - 182

The goblin Arena is complete. Katie will begin the epic battle around Wednesday.

Early Spring - 183

The world is burnt. Again. Mainly due to boredom. Other than that, not much has happened. Elf Caravan came and died in the fire, so I guess that was exciting. :\

I'd try for 60 archery targets to see if that works. If not, it just narrows the problem down!

Yea, I swear I remember reading somewhere about this guy who had this problem with dwarves not practicing, and making a number of targets equivalent to the number of marksdwarves seemed to solve it.

A possible alternative that would have the same effect but not be quiiite as dwarfy:

1. Build the hammer hollow, but fill it with magma. When the cave-in occurs, the magma will explode as if out of nowhere.

2. Build the hammer without anything inside - but below the drop point, have an exit passage from the monkey holding chambers that gets destroyed upon fallage, allowing the monkeys to run out into the ruins once the dust has settled.

3. Both. Enjoy your flaming monkey dancers.

...Since there is no Magma on my map, I'm filling it with Rhesus Macaques instead.

Probably, and I just didn't see it.  Wasn't even actually a decade, just felt like it with no invasions.  Now that they're popping up, this should start getting interesting again.

But if they don't make things interesting enough, what's the best way to piss off the elves?  I've taken to siezing entire caravans, and they haven't sent anyone to tell me I'm not allowed to cut trees, so I'm otherwise stumped.

I burnt the entire ****ing world to the ground and so far they don't seem to mind. So I've turned to magma-izing all of their caravans.

Have you seen any throat-slitting? I hear brooms are more deadly than the sharpest of blades.

Not yet, but then I just changed the name of the war hammers in the raws so I'm not really expecting any. >_>

Now was that really called for? :P

I...don't understand...

DF Community Games & Stories / Pearclasps - Fuck The World 2.0
« on: November 23, 2009, 02:11:39 am »
Author's Note: I would totally get a 3Dwarf/VisualFortress rendition of this, but it hangs my computer when I start it up (or does it normally go for a long-ass time when getting the world data?) Help?

What's Gone On Before:

Pearclasps was founded in 165 by a starting group of 7 dwarves whose names I forget. The only dwarf I remember is Katie Amdahl. She's my main military dwarf. Named after my best friend Katie and the wonders of a Random Name Generator. (I basically used the generator and chucked the first name (it was like John or something) and replaced it. >_>)

The Fuck The World Device 2.0, featured below, was my first second creation. The first attempt didn't work out so well, after which I obtained from the forums and the minds of other people had of my own creativity an idea to build a magma storage device. I did an accurate count, and this room is ((54 * 36 * 3) + 21) = 5832 + 21 = 5853 tiles of magma total * 7 magma per tile = 40971 tiles of magma is spread evenly and is filling presently.

Artifacts

I'll name only the ones that aren't generic items with nothing interesting. "This is a chest made out of wood lolol" is what I consider generic.

Namedsour the Comedic Insanities, a rainbow trout bone buckler - This is a rainbow trout bone buckler. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with rainbow trout bone, turtle bone, and hoary marmot leather and encircled with bands of Alunite and Iron. This object menaces with spikes of Willow, Basalt, and hoary marmot leather (A/N: lolwut?). On the item is an image of dwarves in Basalt. The dwarves are travelling. The artwork relates to the founding of Pearclasps by The Truthful Ship of The Renowned Furnaces in the early spring of 165.

Groupedrain, a steel broomstick - This is a Steel broomstick. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with Basalt, decorated with Maple and encircled with bands of Basalt and Amber opal. This object menaces with spikes of Steel and Basalt. On the item is an image of diamonds in Basalt. On the item is an image of a blazing sun in turtle shell.

I mention Groupedrain because it is wielded by Katie. It will become awesome.

The Honest Blockade, an Alunite bed - This is an Alunite bed. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with Alunite and encircled with bands of Alunite. This object is adored with hanging rings of Alunite. On the item is an image of dwarves in Alunite. The dwarves are laboring. The artwork relates to the foundation of Pearclasps by The Truthful Ship of The Renowned Furnaces in the early spring of 165. On the item is an image of Groupedrain the Steel war hammer in Amber opal.

Megaprojects

Execution Tower
, 38 z-levels in length when you consider the giant hole in the ground. Pearclasps' first megaproject and one that, while simple in design, was entirely successful. It allowed the chucking of puppies and goblins to their untimely deaths. Year of completion 170.

Arena Of Wooden Doom - Built one z-level belowground, this is the place where Katie Amdahl will head to test her skills against the many many goblins she is pitted against. Full weaponry enabled (except the cheating crossbowgoblins) because where's the fun in letting her off easy? Walls are made of wood to take full advantage of the devastating SPLINTERS.  (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOp7tVexx90) *UNDER CONSTRUCTION*

Project Fuck The World 2.0 - As explained above, the giant rectangular prism of magma shall rain doom upon all who wander the 149th z-level of Pearclasps. The main thing that prevents us from firing it up is that the final z-level refuses to fill with magma fast enough. (the pipe always drains before it is filled) Any ideas? *UNDER CONSTRUCTION*

It's been 18 years since Pearclasps was founded. Let's get this going.

Same guy as the burn the world thread?

I'm impressed.

Yup, it's all in Pearclasps.

The floor is made out of basalt and alunite, with some microcline and kimberlite in the center. Walls in the center made out of olivine. Doors are gneiss. The walls around the outside is made of wood. Those who think this isn't dwarfy have obviously never seen the true power of the object known as a splinter, and I refer you to this video for a demonstration:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOp7tVexx90

(Actually, now that I watch this again I'm so modding in broomsticks as a weapon if I can)

Goblin cages are made out of goblin and the various materials containing said goblin. ;>_>

I just realized the elves might be happy that I "attempted to save" the small patch of land that I did with my wall. Well, we can't have that! Burn it to the ground after clearing out the trees!  :)

The barrels and bones are due to caravans coming and getting fucked over by goblin ambushes because I was too lazy to open the doorway since I'm not trading anything with them anyway. Those cages? Every single one has a goblin in it (and there have been ten more since I took the screenshot), and they're going to get hammered to death by my main military dwarf (nicknamed Katie. I don't entirely know why.)

Wooden barrels apparently aren't burnt away by fire. Guess they need magma.

And I'm planning to cover every square inch of the ashes with magma using my giant magma storage pit off to the right there. It's 4 z levels high. Takes forever to fill. Totally worth it.

The vomit-road was due to my traffic-zones I am too lazy to set to normal. And now I won't, because having a vomit-road is just awesome if a little disgusting. >_>

Small bit of collateral damage, but nothing anybody would really gripe too much about.

If I had a choice between a less powerful CPU and more RAM, and a more powerful CPU at the cost of less RAM, which would be better for an optimal DF experience (read: more FPS)?

Honestly irrelevant since RAM is rather cheap nowadays, but I'm still curious as to which matters more.
