DF General Discussion / making a trap

im trying to get rid of this mass of around 100 orcs and goblins outside my fortress, and so i decided to make a retractable bridge trap

the question is what should i fill the pit underneath the bridge trap with?

the easy way would be with lava, but then i wouldnt be able to retrieve the items

or i could fill it with the upright spear/spike traps, which would take a very long time and possibly more resources than i currently have.

anyway i want to know if the spear traps ever get jammed and become unusable until cleaned out if i attach them all to a level or something

the wiki says that the liason respawns in the new version, but fails to say whether or not we will get more than one should the replacement dies.

does anyone know whether or not they will always get replaced or if they will only get replaced once.

each time the game saves it seems to create a new game file, now i have tons of them in my save folder. is it supposed to do this? and how do i tell which one is the most recent one so i can delete the others.

if i channeled to the edge of the map would the water from my underground pool flow off the map? or do i have to pump it to the surface if i want to get rid of it

i designated two new dwarves as miners but they are not picking up a pick. it just says no job next to their name.  The picks are not forbidden or anything and are in a bin.

ive got a bunch of various animal remains littering my floor, do these ever decompose? also blood doesnt seem to be disappearing either cause my floor is quite red. and its been that way ever since some goblin dragged it self out and died..

i remember there is a way to make dwarves "stay indoors"

whats the command for it?

im looking under "o" but i dont see the "i Civilians or all dwarves can be ordered to stay indoors, which can save lives in a siege. Note that "indoors" actually means subterranean: any "Inside Above Ground" areas will be forbidden just like "Outside" areas." from the old version

im using the new df version btw.

i remember i can make a single tile dumping zone where the dwarves would just stack everything marked for dumping on that one tile. does anyone remember how to do this cause i forgot.

i used it as a way to store excess stone without taking up space
