DF General Discussion / Re: Doctors at their best
« on: April 07, 2010, 01:51:37 am »
My dwarven doctors allways stop the suturing before their done or it could be that they are riping the thread out of his body directly after they are done. ???

Ah good, most definitely good. Now I have something else to keep me busy while I recover from last week's car accident. Will just have to get reacquainted with Dwarf Fortress entirely, since it's been a few months since I've played it.

Looking forward to the new features that's for sure, though I haven't the foggiest idea what they are.
Yeah you shouldnt browse the forums, I got spoiled because of that because most things arent behind spoiler tags but yeah you should play DF first for a few days and then come to the forums.

(I can't figure out how to get them to pick up the weapons I assigned them)
Yeah in the military screen it says that they should pick up any prefered melee weapon but when I activate them most of them just walk around as wrestler.

It think I encountered a bug: one of my military dwarfs got injured by a berserk dwarf (he went berserk even though he had everything avaliable i dont know why) and now the doctors walk up to him with the job "suturing" and stand around for a little while and then take the thread back to the stockpile and the dwarfs health menu says he still needs suturing??

I agree that resources need to be thinned out above the first underground layer. I don't mind the density in and of itself, since god I hated prospecting before, so much designating and it leaves the layer completely ugly. But there should be a sense of "I need to go through this risky area to get the good stuff". Like keep the same distribution according to the layers but have a greater ratio of rock at the top.

I also think the 2nd cave layer should be visually distinct from the 1st, but I don't know what to suggest there. Something to make it feel like a deeper, more dangerous place. That might happen sometimes for all I know, but each time I've dug down so far it's just been more of the same mud, mushroom trees, and water.

I know this is the first pass at these features but those are just my thoughts.
Well there are more dangerous creatures and more/different mushroom trees as far as I can tell and also I think there are some options for worldgen on how dangerouse the creatures get the further you go down.

Yeah I love this version esspecially the underground, I allready learned to use the military screen and got used to the new menus.
The only negative thing is the path finding: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=52665.msg1136376#msg1136376
but other than that I love it, good work toady one.

DF General Discussion / Re: Slowness in DF2010?
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:44:23 am »
I had 36 dwarves (40 now) and 1 animal (a donkey) when this happened, but I found out it happenes more often when I assign burrows to my dwarves.

Another question: My expedition leader helped build the well and fell down all the way to the bottom (6 z-levels) and well lets just say it did not go well for him and now I can only assign a chief medical dwarf and a militia captain but no broker, bookkeeper, expedition leader or whatsoever.
When will I be able to assign important positions again?

A question to you all: When you play for about 30 mins strait or longer does the pathfinding of your dwarves screw up like with me? As in your dwarves can't find the well or the booze even though it is just one z level up AKA "Urist McDumbass cancles drink, can not find path/item inaccessible". Or the second case where your dwarves just stand around as if walled in even though there are tons of other jobs around to do?

A four by four spot with weather, temperature and cave-ins on 28 would usually go at two hundred for me.

On my first attempt, a four by four spot ran only at seventy five, and that's with DF getting all the processor attention. Not to mention I never found the under ground after two whole (IRL) days of digging; this version is already pissing me off.

edit: in a good way if that's possible
The underground is very deep underground, I found the first underground layer at z level 22 so I really think your just not digging deep enough.

And regarding to what I posted, saveing the game and then reloading it seems to fix the problem for 5 mins max but at least it does something.

Yeah it is a tiny bit slower, not really noticable even when I found the awesome underground I still had the same fps but it might be that I cap my fps at 50 to make it feel more life like.
What REALLY annoys me is the pathfinding, it just feel broken because when I send some dwarves to do some stuff like build a wall/building 2 z levels down, they go down there, build it and then just KEEP STANDING AROUND even though there are tons of other jobs to do such as healing my dwarf that has his hand cut open by a gigant rat instead of saying "Urist McDoctor/Manson cancels suture patient, patient inaccessible" even though you dont even have burrow assignet to yourself yet and there is a clear way to him!

Yeah I get alot of "can't find path" spam but other than that I love everything esspecially the underground and the randomly generated creatures.

Can we get a server please?

I love the new website, I think it fits really well with the game.
It not distracting at all it just looks good really.

Apart from some path finding issues I love this new version.
When I build a stairway up, 10 tile walkway and stairway down the dwarves that dug it couldnt figure out how to get back to the booze stockpile and almost died of thirst
only once they become very thirsty they finally went back and they didnt even have any jobs to do.

And it's down. Had this weird bug that turned a person's radiation into -1. Don't know exactly what it did, but some of his blocks changed.
You probably turned him into a monkey.

server please

Notice: when i do noclip its admin business (checking if things work / or dealing with idiots)

Btw X2yzh9 do you want me to tell them what you did the round after you came in and started annoying the crap outta off me.

yea you found me in the game and started shooting me.

yup mature man.
Yea, I did that Headswe for a reason.(I didn't know your actual ingame name either, you were just a person.)

It was to prove a point in that when stuff happens to me, you just ignore it and tell me shit happens. When shit happens to you or another admin, you defend it even when without reason. This has gotten to the point where i've decided that I want to know how you like being griefed, or anyone really being griefed.

This is another very, very bad idea, because the cycle never ends.
I agree and server down.

Hey guys, Headswe is pretty much being a retard. His server is going to absolute shit, and he won't do anything about the bannings of certain people. Can we get someone else to host? This shit is ridiculous.

EDIT: Oh, and i'm going to add in here that he called me an idiot and disabled OOC so i couldn't talk. This isn't RP, this is worse than the fucking goons for christs sake. Headswe doesn't really even qualify for adminship. Besides him actually hosting the server I really don't think he'd be allowed to be an admin on any kind of server.
I have seen head no-clip around which I really didnt like but its just something you need to live with as long as the other ss13 bay12 devs dont have anything against him hosting.
Complaining will just help you make enemies if you have evidence of him admin-abusing and doing all sorts of bad admin stuff pm the other devs with the evidence and just talk to them but its not like he is doing it non-stop.
