You aim for the leader because it has a point counter, yeah. If there was a 'total points' counter that had some purpose more people would just try to get the most points every time, but the only thing that stacks that's definitely positive is leader kills.

I only played this game for 30 minutes or so and I could still see orbits when I went to sleep, I think it might have some use as a sleep aid.

I usually do Nords or Sarranids in vanilla because Huscarls are excellent, while Sarannid Mamlukes are excellent as well as the elite infantry and archers. Nords are great for mass infantry charge while Sarannids are practically already the Calradian dream of Knights, Huscarls, and Sharpshooters.

Welllllllll

I scanned, no virus. Windows STILL thinks CK II is a virus, so I try to make an exception for it. You know, that thing you're supposed to do if it closes a safe program?

Ha, no, says Windows. You MUST run DEP for this program. Why? Don't need to tell you why, you just fucking do. Enjoy having us close your game every 30 minutes for NO FUCKING REASON.

I'm tempted to disable DEP, but I'm unsure exactly how much it could protect me from a virus.

Why in the name of FUCK can't Microsoft make a security system that, y'know, works as FUCKING INTENDED?
Microsoft security is the worst. They literally have had this bullshit where a well known game "crusaderkings.exe" is labelled as somehow the same thing as some rogue.crusader just because crusader is in the title. It's been years now.

It's definitely worth it to release if you're playing it yourself in anything other than a bug testing capacity. If you do it on steam workshop you don't even have to interact with the people who download it.

In Civ II I once bested a civ that already launched their space ship. Mine had better engines but crappy everything else, if I recall correctly only had about 18.something % of success rate, it beat the other ship and I won the game. In your face sucker!

But I get the point. Yeah, I sent a ship loaded with a lot of people on a one way trip that lasted years and if they ever come back at all it would take them decades, if not centuries.

How that's supposed to help me today? It wont. How it will help me to stop those tanks and planes from bombarding me? It wont.

It's a stupid victory condition by itself. Now, it should give you a lot of points (enough to win easily) but not be a victory condition by itself. Granted, the game has it as an alternative in order to have this "Science Victory" and as a lead towards SMAC, but still feels pretty idiotic. Like Niveras say, will all the other countries on Earth say "Oh boy, his space ship reached some distant ball of dirt before ours, which will never affect us not only on our lifetime, but for many generations and possibly never again. We better depose all weapons and submit to his will"

Except you're kinda missing the point. There's absolutely no change in what's going on on Earth. You can keep playing after your space ship has reached the stars if you want. But you've won in that you've managed to make yourself  unbeatable as you've spread your civilization beyond the sky. Even if they conquer you later they still haven't quite beaten you. Kind of like Freelancer and the Coalition.

If you occupy the war leaders provinces and the war is over 5 years old you will get 100% warscore. It was added to stoppeople from jumping small countries before their large allies had a say in the matter.

What does this even mean though? Like if I occupy one province of the war leader's I'll have 100% after 5 years? Or I can't get 100% before 5 years have passed?

Also:  I love the african dude's voice actor.  He sounds so chill.  "No village was ever ruined by trade!"
There shoulda been  a native american faction that hates him.

Don't domes give you more culture as well, and they don't cost nearly so much and don't reset the tile yield.
Yeah, terrascapes aren't ideal at all. You even improve the dome with techs. The energy wasted is better spent on maintaining and purchasing buildings and internal production routes.

There really needs to be a better ecological paradigm going on. SMAC did it rather well and it's lack is one of the worst parts of BE.

145
They really need to buff terrascapes. I figured that maybe if you go purity you get some bonuses to them through quests, but I haven't tried it. They should be totally worthwhile to spam if you're going purity. Personally I would make it so that a terrascape needs 1 energy maintenance for each non-terrascape/city/mountain/ocean tile it borders. So if I had a block of 7 terrascapes it would have 12 energy maintenance, potentially less if it's in a valley or it's a coast line, etc. The concept of the terrascape maintenace is that it needs to be prevented from reverting to the natural environment of planet, but if a tile literally does not border any then it makes little sense.

It would  have been a lot nicer if they stuck with fungus/forest and kelp/sea fungus and made it a natural competition of ecosystems like in SMAC.

One major quitessential "Civ" thing I'm not seeing so far are natural wonders. I did see one fairly unique feature, looked like a large crater (very similar to the Barringer crater in AC) but it appeared to be purely visual and without any bonuses: mousing over the central hex (the mouth of the crater) and surrounding hexes (the rim) just returned "mountain" (ironic, actually), grassland, grassland/hill, etc. The pedia only refers to wonders you can construct so I guess natural wonders don't exist (probably slated for an expansion, greedy bastards). Also missing great people. I guess AC didn't have them either but... yeah.
Odd.  Are natural wonders/landmarks actually a Civ thing?  Other than Civ5 and Alpha Centauri, I don't recall any natural wonders of the sort you describe.  The only ones I can think of were certain scenarios and mods in Civ4, where they were refluffed resources.
Yeah I'm quite certain they're just an AC and Civ 5 thing. But since BE is Civ 5 + AC you might expect it to be included.

I like it thus far. My biggest problem is that trade isn't possible to automate, and that there's no option to make automated workers not remove miasma. I like the satellite stuff and as a Harmony civ I want to cover everything in miasma. I'm currently pretty far in, been at war with two of my smaller neighbors (Slavs and Africans) who sneak attacked me at the same time a long while back but I managed to repel them and take one city, and they haven't managed to field anything dangerous since. I've struggled with health the whole game despite not actually being particularly big (4/5 cities) and researching/building most the health buildings. so it seems to me like conquest and going wide in general is ridiculously unfeasible. There is an improvement which acts like a farm but gives health in exchange for maintenance so maybe with copious amounts of them it's possible. Covert ops is nice and I like how you don't actually know specific numbers, managed to steal a tech once and otherwise it takes a bit too long to do any ops.

Just pre-ordered this because the intro video made me tear up. Unfortunately everything space related seems to make me tear up. Hopefully I won't regret this.

No taxes, you have to call them to war like allies. Until you have higher tribal organization laws and then it's pretty much normal.
