I find it strange that a new king/queen is never crowned. Does the world behave differently once worldgen is finished? Things don't change cause some dwarfs somewhere dug a hole in the ground right?

ignore the white stuff and use your intuition. Unless you are a 70 year old Alzheimer patient with cataracts then you should be able to do this.

just use your intuition. Failing that, slow the movie down and watch carefully.

set the barracks up over the brook and get your dwarfs to spar.

Seriously it is not hard to just look at the river to see which way it is flowing.

Something else worth a mention is time. if you start a fortress at year 250, work on it for 3 years then abandon it. The next for you make is 253. Multiple fortresses running at once will let you have two going at the same time, one could get ahead of the other. Leading to possible time paradoxes!

There is a pattern on it that moves down the path of the river? Isn't that the direction it's flowing?

Well yah, i mean the stuff you get back you use in industry, which gives you more wealth. Moreso then keeping everything. Short term loss for long term gain.

when you trade you also receive, technically a trading will cost you wealth, but not MUCH wealth since you get something back for it. just build a quarter boxs of cheap trinkets and you will probably be back to where you were (unless they came in with 5 wagons loaded with 100K worth of goods and you traded for all of it.) Also when you trade you gain materials that you need, that you can use to make more wealth, I would argue that you get less immigrants by not trading.
