DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Getting GCS to spawn...
« on: October 11, 2009, 09:46:33 am »
I onceh ad the unfortunate luck to have a chasm next to my magma source, While going to dig a rout for magma to go from there to my new fort (didnt wanna waste time and give everything time to move to the surface) I happened upon a GCS.  Man those things are creepy.

Hey its the same basic problem with hauling,  Take for example the trader.  Caravan come s you figure you can just send all the items to the depot while he's doin his meeting right? Wrong he'll take the items to the depot,  then if he has ANY OTHER JOB he'll do that THEN the meeting if your lucky.

Baiscally turn off non-improtant jobs for everyone.  Turn off hauling on everyone but pesants. Takes longer but you get other things done quicker.

Can I go crazy and start mass-digging random corridors leading to no where yet? XD Or at least start exploratory digging.

And your miner would be a crazy cat hermit and instead of carving dwarven faces you'd have a catsplosion portrayed in the largest artifact engraving in dwarf-kind.

Its the lowest quality but its still getting mega points...

I have never gotten a wind-farm working,  Someone had said having two windmills next to each other was enough to increase power but I had like five of them in a row and still only put out like 30? power.

Ah fish, Nothing like your lone hunter and his three hunting dogs all dieing within a manner of seconds due to a long nose gar.  Tsk.  I've debating flooring over rivers many a time.

Also: this is why you put al of your animals you NEED into a cage untill you have a decent meeting area set up.  So they dont roam around and cause mahem.

I know how you mean there..
I just started a fort and set it all up, Didnt even look at my crafting untill mid-summer,  Set up a craftsdwarf shop and pumped out enough mugs to get a nice anvil and some gold bars (I never start with an anvil if I can help it)

Then again that fort got killed shortly after by 20 randomly generated skeleton monkeys,  Poor military that i started out witih got overwhelmed easily.

Or you could just build stockpiles on the surface for 'supplies' the new dwarfs will need.  And then dig your starting seven a nice little recluse.  After the dwarfs are sorted you can send whoever you need to outside to stock the supply pile for the next wave and so on.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How much do you trust your dwarves?
« on: October 10, 2009, 01:13:06 am »
Personally? My dwarfs are idiots.   I look away for two seconds and they all start getting chased down by zombie MONKEYS.  Let me draw you a picture.

                 [Entrance]
     [d]  [d]      [d]   [d]

[m]    [m]         [m]         [m]         [m]

But do they run into the safety of the fortress? (especially since I've activated (no dwarfs go outside) mode). NO they run PAST the entrance to the northern edge of the map to get picked off one by one.

But whenever I play succession games I'm not that good a writer, I just make notes of improtant things that happened during my boring rein, So what do I do? (Set to run in backround (the couple hundred dwarfs lag me to hell anyway),  Walk away for a few hours, Come back check what made the game pause, Note its date and wahts happening and unpause.) And on like that for a while.  Only when specific things needs to get done (Like those new bedrooms set up (it took freaking 10 months for 5 beds to be made, Dont trust those damn dwarfs))

you cant use "seal themselves off" and "immagrants" in the same paragraph.  Because once you are sealed off you SHOULD be getting no immagrants.  "sealed off" means NO CONTACT with anyone of the outside world  Being that caravans diplomats and immagrants.

I suggest we build a huge magma lake above ground *wall off most of the map put some doors at 2 wide entrances and fill it with magma* And inside teh cetner of it being teh entrance to the fort.. You want us? Come and get us *what do you mean temps turned off?*

*Hands a flashlight* Warning this requires about 30 windmills to power, But It should be sufficient to not only clear your fort of shadows but give everyone imediate cave sickness.
