That should do fine or you can use a depot on the surface and just build some fortifications arround it.

My military consists of 1 peasant, locked in a room with alot of levers. The main lobby, the river crossing and the magma passage is armed with lever closing doors and splatbidges. The chasm is flooded.

The flood is not related to miner skill, but to wether or not you hit actual water instead of the riverbanks. More experienced miners are more agile and have a larger chance of escaping tho.

The natural floods extend to about 20 squares infront of the river and 10 squares behind it. Dwarfmade floods can go anywhere but are very volatile when they come in contact with other sources of water.

Yes please. It take like a minute to move certain bins for 1 square. Mainly 10k+ obsidian storages.

The best place to do this are mountain lakes, not oceans. Rarely any aqufiers there.

I did. All my military is required to stay idle with no tasks in my dining room for a long time before before they are allowed to touch a weapon. They also get practice in Pump Operating, Siege Operating and Swimming.

Actual military training doesn't give you a gun on your first day. I consider the above theory practice.

Don't attack deer with inexperienced dwarves!

I had one trapper run off immediatly when he migrated.

A few months later they brough him back in.
Red chest, yellow spine, red lung
yellow head, 1 eye and yellow brain
Red hand, several red fingers
Yellow arm, red elbow
Gray/brown wounds everywhere.
During the entire period there were only deer on the map.

One of them still carries an iron bolt in it.

I put my trade depot all the way in the back of my fort. The entire road lined with masterpiece statues. "All the way in the back" means 1 splatbidge away from a set of demon pits.

Blue Eagle, your name sounds familiar, WCIII mapper by any chance?

I generaly make a truckload of looms and [R] A different clothing item on each one. the dwarves randomly run to them to make the items they think they need and if i get too much of one i disable that one temporary.
