It might if SOE started to make money off the game again, somehow. Or at least saw a chance to. Unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen unless a bunch of people step in and get the game popular enough to merit a few corporate eyes.

I've given it a quick taste for myself. I have to say, the flight mechanics are notably easier than 2, since you don't have to learn how to hover for yourself, among other things.

Not that it's prevented me from being terrible.

One thing I do like about it is that you have multi-crewed vehicles. Single-crew tanks always felt a bit cheap to me.

The obvious secret to shooting cover is shooting past it, but that's sometimes easier said than done.

The US works without the normal concept of 'teamwork', actually, which is why most people play them. The planes aren't the best at any one thing, but anyone with a basic understanding of energy can fly them well, because they're jack-of-all-trade planes with plenty of guns, plenty of ammo, a rugged airframe, really good energy retention and half-decent turn characteristics. The Germans can out-climb them, the British and Japanese can out-turn them, but only the Russians can usually out-fight them and not a single plane can outlast them.

Also, B-17s. They live up to their nicknames, even when bombers are in a nerf phase.

Third option is that you can just gun it and hope your huge, rugged airframe soaks enough damage that your superior horsepower pulls you away from his effective firing range.

Depending on how buffed the turret gunners are at the moment, your turret can also be stupidly deadly sometimes, even the wimpy little 7-8mm guns.

Adequate energy usage can also give you an edge. Even heavy fighters can turn surprisingly fast under the right circumstances, although they seem to have slowly been nerfing that for a while now.

I think War Thunder, like World of Tanks, suffers somewhat from two things: the developers have a favorite faction, the Russians, and the fanbase is a bunch of whiny bitches.

The problem with favoritism is obvious, though to be fair, at least WT's better about it than WoT in that they let people bitch and fume and occasionally even go in and do some little bit about it. Their mistreatment of Germans really sucks, though.

The fanbase is a much more nasty problem. Gaijin goes out of their way to try and make everyone happy, and it doesn't work, makes the game worse in some cases, and removes time and effort from things that are more important, like, say, more accurate flight models.

They also seem to have a little issue with prioritizing, choosing getting new stuff that's unprepared out instead of making what's there work.

If you have or don't mind getting a Wii and a controller with MotionPlus, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword actually has you swinging your sword in specific directions to defeat certain enemies as well as using your other various tools to good effect (being a Zelda game and all).

It's probably not as deep as you're looking for, and it can be a tad bit difficult as you might not swing the right way if you're not holding the controller perfectly level, but it's playable enough that it's not really frustrating as, even if you're having difficulties with something that's particularly hard, you can usually find an alternate strategy that works. I definitely had fun with it.

I think Americans hate the German P-47 because it starts (or started) in the air on quite a few maps. From what I've seen, the American's P-47s are very popular, but the German P-47 is almost always above you when you reach engagement range and it's almost impossible to kill a good pilot who's flying one.

Rockets have always had the disadvantage of requiring a significant amount of their mass be propellant, while bombs are almost completely composed of explosives.

Better yet, do Simulator tank battles if you can. The aircraft are still nigh-unflyable, and the mode is more 'difficult' due to more stringent projectile and armor rules (resulting in a number of cases where the Germans or Russians have massive advantages with certain tanks), but it's still fun and it's a lot easier to do things like flanking runs without getting spotted and shot.

Also, the poor Simulator people need all the love they can get, since Simulator plane-only battles have been outright taken off the roster because of their poor performance.

If you don't already have the particular ammunition type researched, once you do the research it you'll get a full set of each type, which for cannons is usually about 40-60 belts worth. You should be able to completely level up the plane before you run out of all that ammunition, unless you're stricken by an immense amount of misfortune.

The price for replacing the belts is very minor, as well. You pay in silver lions, and most of the ammunition prices per belt can be measured in single or double digits. Really, replacing your ammunition once it's expended isn't something to be concerned about unless you forget, as even on a terrible loss without premium, you should be able to earn enough money to get back what you shot.

It's not quite what you'd call a strategy game, and it's definitely not a 4x, but at the very least you might get a few good minutes out of it.

The term MMO has sort of evolved in the common vernacular to represent any game in which the primary focus of play, to the exclusion of other options, is multiplayer, without players having strong control over who they play with or how the matches are arranged. Call of Duty games always have a fully-built singleplayer campaign, so they don't quite qualify in the common consciousness. War Thunder does have singleplayer options, but they're pretty much neglected in favor of the multiplayer experience, so it technically squeezes in.

Tank sim is a lot more popular than plane sim. For one, it's actually playable for most people, and the fact you can only see enemies on the minimap means there's a lot more opportunity for sneaking around, which is extremely fun. It's also challenging, but not overwhelming, because you actually have to learn how to aim your gun yourself, which is thankfully not that hard. Just because you shoot first doesn't mean you hit first, and that goes both ways.

The balance gets a lot better in the mid-to-late game. Everyone has long guns and can kill each other effectively at range, versus the early game where the Russians have a massive advantage and the early-mid game where the Germans first get long guns and get revenge on the Russians.
