I imagine a lot of people aren't playing tanks at the moment out of frustration. Both the Russians and Germans have some extraordinarily overpowered vehicles that cause one another unending headache.

My first suggestion: play Simulation only. You can actually hide because the only indication anyone gets that you're there is a marker on the mini-map, and that's almost never enough to figure out exactly where you are, especially on the more foliage-heavy maps. And, if you get in close enough with an enemy tank while they're not paying attention, they might not even see your marker because it will be obscured by their own, assuming they're even paying attention to their mini-map at all.

There are no keys. You have to buy your way in at this point, unless they do another challenge event.

Don't worry too much about it, I'm sure they'll do something if they don't meet their open beta deadline.

They're definitely sticking with realistic tanks, if nothing else. Which I like, it's good to be able to actually drive the tanks as they were.

A lot of the issue with balance is also, in part, due to a lack of understanding of the methods needed to pilot certain vehicles effectively.

For instance, a great majority of the T-34 line relies more on speed to get up close to the enemy and hit them with close-range flank or rear shots, while almost all of the German tanks except for the early ones rely on sniping from a distance with good guns.

Of course, there are some tanks that you just have to pray things work out with, like the KV series. The KV's, with the exception of the -2, tend to be either nigh-invulnerable and death to a tank or pathetically weak and harmless, with no real in-between.

It depends. If you plan on doing more of a sniping role, I wouldn't recommend it, as both of those tanks have small guns and are more centered around moving up close to the enemy and hitting them in the flanks. The M4A2 is slower, but has vertical gun stabilization so you can fire it a lot more accurately on the move, while the T-34 is a fairly fast tank that can run up on an enemy's flank with enough time to stop and take a shot.

The T-34 is of such a low tier, though, that it'll likely be going up against some fairly weak opponents like the Pz II and early Pz III models anyway.

The NDA has been lifted from War Thunder Ground Forces (not that anyone was following it anyway) so if there's anyone who's been playing with the tanks, feel free to say your thoughts.

Personally, I started playing the Germans, but switched to Russians not because they were better in some way (far from it in my mind, I like the German's snipeyness) but because there were so few Russian players it was far, far easier to get in a game with them.

I do, occasionally. I'm surprised there hasn't been a Bay 12 regiment formed yet, honestly.

Or there probably has, and I'm not attentive enough to notice.

Apparently EA is giving away Dead Space for free via Origin right now.

If you consider having to install and use Origin as 'free' I guess.
Nobody complained when Steam was giving away free games.

Steam isn't known to go through your computer's information like Origin is, among other things.

The IL-2 is as good as you'd expect from the people who made the game for it. It's tough as the Americans, has the firepower of the Germans, and gives the British turners a run for their money.

Americans have hands-down the toughest planes of all the nations, not to mention all-around good staying power between fuel, ammo and sheer hardassery. They need it, because they have pissy climb rates. Banks of .50 calibers are good, but not great, you have to be careful on the boom-and-zoom to get enough damage to ensure a kill.

Russians are nearly as tough as Americans simply because they don't know when to give up the ghost and are like dwarves in their ignorance of being on fire.

If you're going off the 'drag' number in the parts list, that's not entirely accurate. An orange tank and a tiny puddle-jumper tank both have the same drag per surface area, but even the base game bothers to actually care about that surface area. With a mod focused on making aerodynamics more realistic, like FAR, you can notice an even greater difference.

Of course, I haven't played in a while, so I might be wrong for lack of newer developments, but I don't think the game's creators would backtrack like that.

Keep in mind, though, that that the larger the object is, the greater the drag because there's more surface area for the air to cling to, which can be yet another variable that causes a difference in terminal velocity.

I like how the Skyranger turned out, though sadly it flies like a brick. You can barely see them, but there's a whole bunch of RCS thrusters on the underside (which technically is faithful to the Skyranger's specs, it has vents under there so it can do VTOL), and they're the only thing that can make this beast pull up in any kinda capacity. Turn them off, the Skyranger just dives.

Let's be completely honest, the Skyranger /is/ a brick. I imagine the only reason it'd ever fly in real life is a combination of high-speed, computer controlled trim and a whole lot of aerodynamic tricks you can't easily replicate in KSP. Or in real life.

The nice thing about your little girl is that she can pretty much wear anything you can, so as you get new gear you can hand-me-down your older stuff to her, or put the armor that you really like but it doesn't quite have the enchantments you want on her.

Supposedly they can use ranged weapons, but I've never seen them use anything I've given them (or the stone they usually start with) so I'm not sure if it's an AI issue or they just can't do it.

The little girl also has a fairly decent stat block, so you can generally keep her around for a while, and after you get her affection up and marry her you can make some decent heirs. Engagement rings and amulets are good for getting the affection up quickly, but you've got to be careful they don't weigh her down too much or you won't be able to put decent items on her (unless of course the engagement stuff is also artifact, which can happen).
