DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Deporting dwarves

1) set up a room filled with cage traps with a support in the middle. The room must have a lockable door with a lever outside the door linked to the lever. Above the support is a floor tile being supported only by the support.
2) set up a 1 man military squad and order it to station inside this room
3) lock the door to ensure he can't escape
4) pull lever
5) unlock door, retrieve cage

Then science can be done to the dwarf.
Damn, easier than I thought, anyway....  Now, time for the magma, cheese, and skulls.  :P  And to turn on cave-ins.

But Nobles can't be assigned to the military

Oh, and I guess that's why I've been getting an inordinate amount of soldiers being caged recently, my minefield seems to be knocking them out on top of the cage traps.

I'll need help designing a cage trap for civilians in that case. Having them pull a lever to seal themselves in a room with a cage trap only makes them sleep on the lever, and the only dwarves I've had caged were actually useful and not appropriate test subjects.

Is it possible to have dwarves caged, and then trade them to the caravan to have them deported?

Or maybe it was mutiny, spurred by seeing my anti-siege minefield.

Well they need a witness for the event, to legislate it. Goblins don't take selecting leaders lightly, you know.

It was the whole squad against 2 or 3 of them, though. So now the entire squad is a council of law-givers?

Bug in the current version: When a goblin siege arrives with a leader from a different race (kidnap victim), they will turn hostile on him when they enter the map, causing the cascade

Problem is, all the pikemen and the law-giver were goblins.

So I get the message alerting me to a vile force of darkens arriving, and I immediately signal for all my dwarves to withdraw. Then I notice the combat report indicator, and decide to have a look at it to see if any of my dwarves were hurt. What I see are the members of the goblin pikeman squad trying to tear one of the pikemen and their law-giver into pieces. Once that's done, the pikemen promptly depart while the rest of the squads march on to my fortress as usual.

Any idea what might have caused this?

A steam titan approaches my fortress. My entire military is mobilized to engage it, all decked in steel armaments, save for the hammers which were silver. They dwarves charge, while a sniper fires a wooden bolt, and then moment the bolt connects with the titan, it simply EVAPORATES.

I thought it'd be impossible to kill thanks to not being made of an organic material, too.

Interesting. I don't know how this might work out in my situation, but a good read.

You could always just be up front about it, if she's been your friend for years you shouldn't need to do the normal semi-sutble stuff. You should tell her, and either be happy if she feels the same, or accept it if she doesn't.

Yeah, that would be the best scenario. But I suppose it's best after some time doing the subtle stuff.

Just ask her out, god damnit.

We already do that. Problem is I need a good way to show my intent.

A little late to respond, but thanks for the advice, everyone. Still haven't done anything, though.

We're both going to see our teacher tomorrow, though we were supposed to be with a larger group of mutual friends she didn't invite them along, saying that we make enough good conversation. Could that mean something?

Guess I'll tell her about it sometime this month. Hope everything goes well, I guess.

She hasn't got a boyfriend.

And yes, I do want her as a friend. I immensely enjoy simply spending time with her just chatting the time away, and losing that would suck.

So yeah, I've got a girl who's been great friends with me for about 10 years now, ever since we were both about 6. About this year I started to have a crush on her, and I've been going out with her more often. I'd really like to let her know that I like her, but then I'm afraid that if I do and if she rejects me, she might not want to be friends with me anymore. I really don't want that to happen.

What should I do?
