The doors at the back of the courtroom blast open, and from them flies forth a pair of mechanical claws, obviously designed to grab the accused by the neck and drag them kicking and screaming to their deaths.

Sasha leaps, snatching at the one grabbing for Pedro, but to her shock, the second one grabs her, and she can't stop the two of them from being sucked through the doorway into darkness.

Something strikes her head, and she's unconscious.

Execution Pedro Amazonia!  ~(Love Love Falling from Love)~

Sasha awakens to find herself sealed in what seems to be a glass box. As she straightens, she notices a small anomaly within the otherwise featureless box; a small podium with a pair of buttons on it. The buttons are labeled “Save Pedro” and “Save Family”, and underneath is a small speaker and what could possibly be a microphone. When she turns her eyes outside of her glass prison cell, she reels back in shock.

The room consists of two glass tubes and a glass box. Sasha is inside the glass box, and the floor is solid steel, but in the tubes sit a small group of people. As well, a large timer emerges from the wall, counting down from four minutes.

Pedro is in the left-most tube, looking as if he's trying to calm himself down and control his breathing. Beads of sweat occasionally roll down his face.  Underneath him is an iris, obviously opening to the outside.

In the other is her slowly awakening family. Mother, Father, Little Sister... They're all there. And as her father comes awake, he looks at Sasha as if he'd never seen her before. The same iris from Pedro's tube is here as well,  it's purpose as clear as day.

Today Monokuma won't be executing someone.

Sasha will.

“Gooooooooooood Morning!~” Comes Monokuma's voice. Judging from the reactions of Pedro and Sasha's family, they heard his voice as well. “Everyone! Today I'm pleased to announce that I won't be killing ANYONE! Isn't that just great?!”

“S-So we won't be killed?!” Stutters Mr. Viola. “T-then you'll let us go, right?”

“Of course you'll be killed, silly!” Comes the saccharine reply.

Mr. Viola scrabbles for his daughter and wife, gripping them tightly. “Oh god. N-Natasha, close your ears sweetie...” he says in Russian. His young daughter, probably no older than five, clings to one of his arms, tears already rolling down her face.

Pedro simply sits still, his breathing finally controlled.

“But I won't be the one who decides who dies today... Sasha Viola will!”

Natasha Viola begins to sob. Monokuma puts the sound through the speakers, letting the sound of a bawling child fill each cell. In Sasha's cell, she notices the buttons light up.

“Save Pedro”

“Save Family”

A little bit of bile rolls up her throat.

“L-listen, Lady, Ma'am, please.” Says Mr. Viola, starting to cry himself. “I don't care what happens to me, but please, please, let my daughter live! She hasn't done anything worth this! She's only five!”

Pedro finally speaks as well. “I know you'll make the right decision, Sasha. You're the Ultimate Hero after all... Please, don't try to save me.”

Pedro quickly draws Sasha into a hug, whispering for a small while. Only the last word can be heard from his small speech.

"Da Svidaniya."

Monokuma

"Sounds like we're done!" crows Monokuma happily, whipping out a small gavel. "Let's give it everything we've got! IIIIIIIIIT'S PUNISHMENT TIIIIME!"

It begins!

Draft is done. This may possibly be the most outright cruel execution in canon or non-canon.

I'm kinda glad I dropped the original idea of repeatedly dunking Pedro in a tank full of hungry piranha for this. This is way more despair inducing.

This trial was a bit unsatisfying for two reasons: I didn't write it down, meaning it ended up getting disjointed (there was originally meant to be a hitch where the murderer had actually set the roombas to clean the floor after 4 AM, then gone back and reset them to midnight, blowing everything out of the way)

And I wasn't sure what you guys would be able to piece together easily and what you wouldn't, and since this isn't a linear VN where you're forced into Naegi's thinking process, there's nothing to stop you from immediately detailing the correct scenario and ending the trial in 3.4 seconds.

which would suck.

for everyone.

especially the murderer.

The next trial's going to incorporate what I learned with this one, as well as hopefully need less in the way of NPCs whipping things out of their ass. And of course, the AAR/fanfic I'm planning on writing will end up changing things around to closer match the original plan (Sasha -> 'Eesha -> Pedro).

Puppet Creature [Light Magic Grandmaster | 45 Mana]: Take control of one of your enemies, using their own brain against them! The spell lasts for 3 hours, and can control any enemy with a living brain.

What horror does a creature under the influence of Puppet Creature experience? Are they screaming inside, unable to control their limbs and blades as they slaughter their own allies before slicing open their own throat? Are they aware, as their whims and desires are subverted, turning all their mind towards serving the caster? Or do they never realize they were under the influence of the spell, subtle machinations of their own brain making sure that the caster is and always will be more important to them than any friend or family?

I have been under the influence of that spell. I have had the blood of my close friends, men and women I had trained with, lived with, loved as my own brothers and sisters, on my hands. And I still can't see anything wrong with it. That is the magic of Puppet Creature. They will never realize, without outside help, that the time they were under the spell was not their own mind, their own thoughts, their own actions. My memories still convince me it was my own doing, that I had been mistaken in seeing them as friends. The spell still lingers. I can't see anything wrong with it.






I like the idea that high-level spells tend to go full SMAC and have some horrifying implications. Especially Light Magic (electricity, magnetism, and rational thought) Dark Magic (Culture, History, Legend, and Memes) and Spirit Magic (Emotions, irrational thought, and death/life). Ever wonder why a person who was just resurrected screams bloody mary?

If nothing else, Trump has the firmest grasp on Memetics in politics.

Maybe not the firmest grasp on reality, but that might be what makes him and his phrases and his appearance et al so memetic.

This is where it begins. This is how the world ends. Not with fire, or ice, or carbon dioxide, or an alien invasion. No.

It ends with fabricated memes from the government.
