I've ready somewhere that if a military squad is set to train and the set minimum amount of dwarves training is the same as their squad number, then the dwarves will train constantly and not eat or drink, is this true? I would let some of em be off duty but its really bugging me not being able to tell which dwarves are in my military and which aren't when handing out job assignments.

Engravings generally tell the history of the fort, so if a dwarf has seen lots of goblins being killed he might carve that a lot. If you ere to view the engravings in adventure mode you'd probably find that it refers to lots of different dwarves and lots of different goblins, often in different battles.

Had a longer walk around. The server is cool but with me being in the UK theres a bit too much lag if I try to dig/use a chest/talk for me to play easily.

Dropped by to have a look at this before I went out and I have this to say.

WOW.

Very nice massive temple/mansion/whatever thing you've got greeting new players there =p

Two questions.

1 - Does this have monsters turned on? The area I was in when night fell was too lit for any to spawn.

2 - What times do people tend to be on? Seemed deserted when I was on since no-one answered a greeting and I've forgotten how to view players online in SMP >_>

I've got a few questions about the new military.

1 - While I understand how to get a melee weapon using squad to train now from the wiki page, how would I get a crossbow using squad to train?

2 - What is the most convenient way people have found to switch a squad from practice to real weapons? is there a way to do it based on alerts?

3 - Will squads told to defend a burrow through their schedule hang about that burrow while on duty, or just wander about the fort and head up there if something crosses the burrow? If the burrow is large will they spread out or patrol it or something?

4 - Will a squad assigned to defend a burrow chase enemies outside of its burrow?

5 - Do direct commands override scheduling or does there need to be a specific schedule state for them?

I've got a question about medical care. I've read about a bug with making plaster casts for broken bones when the doctor tries to fill the water for it. if I simply never get any plaster will the doctor just decide to not attempt a cast rather than starve to death standing at a well, or will I get an endless stream of cancelled job alerts?

Also if the doctor is unable to put a cast on the limb will they be able to do something with splints, or are they a part of casts?

I tried burrows and it was horrible: dwarfs couldnt find their way to anywhere, workshops apparently didnt have access to any material and they couldnt find the well or furniture when I wanted to place some even though everything was provided for them and was inside their burrows so I dont know what happened there but with my new fort I might try it again and maybe the results will change.

Hmmm, looks like the burrows idea might not be that good, apart from small lines to use as military points and stuff.

If doors are causing problems now, then try using stairs instead for stuff that you want to not be open, I sometimes used to do this with bedrooms If I didn't have enough masons to make doors for bedrooms.

As soon as I have some free time, probably tomorrow, this will be getting underway.

Prepare for HILARIOUS ****ups, also If I find a cavern I am SO building a back entrance through it, just for the lolz, and to give my military something to do.

Considering that Tarrans character will likely Die VERY soon, I gave him his chosen gender as a kind of second prize >_>


I've changed some professions to allow the fort to survive, and i'm reading up on how to do stuff on the wiki before I leave today.
- Zakath, Male,  Mason/Architect, Vayre.
- Tarran, Male, Swordsdwarf, Tarran
- House, Hopefully Male, Doctor, UristMcGunsmith
- Johann, Male, Miner/Biter/ R3d5kull
- Darkness, Male, Farmer(4), Brewer(4), Wrestler(1), Biter(1)
- Imp, Female, Miner/Appraiser, Imp
- Gnooble, Female, Machanic/Woodcutter, Gnooble

Also for those who wish to know, it seems like it was a combination of a bad install messing up the registry, and

The basic story is that, for whatever reasons, the starting seven are being forced to leave/choosing to leave/whatever a large, well supplied and safe mountainhome. If you want to specify why your dorf leaves for story purposes, or maybe some goals, just post a little note. otherwise i'll make somethign up.

I would like to check my, "Whee place reservedness plox", rating.

Once this story wraps up, and Toady releases the next version in August of 2012 2112, I'm going to be starting up a new community fort most likely.  So how's this for fair - anyone who wants a Dwarf, and is on the list, but doesn't get in before the story ends, gets first pick the next go-around?

Unfortunately there will be a LARGE delay.

My computer has had a problem of the "NO, F*** YOU!! NOTHING WILL WORK!!!" kind, so now i'm trying to identify what is still not working, why the hell it won't let me install things or use system restore, and trying to fix what is broken.

EDIT: Might not be as bad as it seems, after i fixed the problem of windows office trying to reinstall when I opened ANYTHING, most things are working now, barring steam and itunes. Normal service may resume soon.

Start now, making hilarious mistakes and potentially getting messed upby bugs in funny ways.

Wait a week, get some experience with the new system, and let a few bug fix releases come out.

Hmmm, not entirely sure where I should go with this.

On one hand this has been started.

On the other hand there is the new version, with awesome new features, both gameplaywise and stuff that could be put into a story (constant assaults of cave monsters anyone?

Plus this has only just started, so not that much is being lost.

Not entirely sure myself, post Yae or Nae if I should close this and open something on the new one, note this isn't a vote as such, just your opinions influencing my decision.
