I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt Tristram sounded a lot like DF's theme.

Anyone else get chills at 1:46 at that whistling sound? It always stuck out at me.

I'd like to see the Cleaning ability evolve into a D menu thing. You could designate an area to be cleaned in rectangle fashion, or possibly even single out dwarves to be forcibly cleaned on-the-spot quarantine style. The janitors would then go about cleaning the fort, using soap if it's available.

I would suggest not giving them any weapons or they will murder all your dorfs for failed production orders.

I had a revolt in one of my 31.05 fortresses where the newly elected immigrant Mayor issued beating orders for all of the original seven for carrying -Orthoclase Mug-s to the Trade Depot.  As my "guard" was armed with *Steel BattleAxe*s, they went around beheading the founding dwarfs.  It looked rather like a coup... but I know that's just normal dwarf behaviour....  It also produced my first tantrum spiral of 31.x.

I had a similar happening in my first fully functioning fort. After an ambush of an FB from the depths of the caverns, I quickly started forming a fortress guard to stop the thing from killing my dwarves dead. The only two were a wrestler who frankly got torn in half two seconds later when he walked into the giant otter's path, and my original miner, who had now become legendary. She immediately embedded her pick into the thing and killed it (Although not before it took down 14 of my 35 dwarves with it). AWESOME. THE FORT IS SAVED.

My new guard began to parade about the fort, which was full of tantruming, grieving dwarves, Putting her pick into the head or throat of any person that would do no less than take a quick swing at a cow. The fort slowly gained up to about 6 casualties to her tyranny before I caught a look at a report of it.
NOT SO AWESOME. THE FORT IS UNSAVED.

And well, you can figure how it went from there.

what.. oh shit! that one room five floors down does not ALIGN TO THE MAIN STAIRCASE! NOOOOO!

This, this, a THOUSAND TIMES this.

I restarted a year-old fort because I realized my meeting hall was one tile off from being symmetrical to a workshop room half the fort away.

I am so goddamn messy in real life, why do my forts have to be completely and utterly perfect?

I don't generally like stairwells for the main entrance to my fort since something like that feels like it should be more like a road. Staircases in my forts are usually limited to small-scale local paths where massive amounts of traffic aren't likely. I know the game engine doesn't care but it just doesn't feel right having dwarfs haul a thousand boulders up through what seems to be to be very narrow stairwells.

I do this too, for the exact reason. also, more fun to defend and fortify around a long path :)

To everyone explaining the burrow designation being cubic, this helped a loooad. The part about getting people to stay inside for raids was also helpful... So basically that order in the barracks makes EVERYONE stay inside some kind of burrow for the duration of the order?

I don't really have an answer for you, as I can't even figure out how to USE burrows properly, no matter how much I read up on them. What I'd like to say is, I hope the concept of getting more than one fort going on the same map is kept in mind and eventually made easier to do, it's what I'm REALLY expecting out of burrows.

Imagine being able to have several fully functioning 'mini-forts' to guard your main citadel. They would be based solely on training, housing, nursing and feeding a platoon of soldiers. One could be set up at the surface of the map, to let in trade caravans, accept migrants, etc, the other at the entrance to your cave systems to protect from forgotten beasts, animal tribes, and as a place for your underground workers to retreat to. I was really happy with what he has done with assigning barracks this time, with being able to assign squads to certain weapon racks/whatever, it probably won't be long before he gets more into that stuff.

Either that, or someone will get the Dwarputer ONLINE. The newly functional Dwarf Fortress Online, a massive DF world made up of all-player-run fortresses, sees every last player empire trounced by the new AI.

I, for one, will welcome our new robodwarf overlords.
