DF Suggestions / Forum Suggestion: A board for forum suggestions

Basically, I'm suggesting that we get a new section in general discussion, to suggest things for the forum and talk about the forum itself.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / You are damned! (Life 2)
« on: July 26, 2011, 12:45:07 pm »
...
Hello.

Your life is over.
You're dead

Anyways, congrats.
You're damned

HOW TO PLAY:
1: Vote on actions. If it's a tie then I use random.org.
2: You WILL die often, and you go straight back to the start when you do.
3: Each triumph or death you have causes the story to progress. You'll learn important things. I won't spoil it. The story stays if you die, and progresses again from that point.
4: Deaths bring up bad memories, triumphs bring up good memories.

Anyway, you're in a room, with a man in a suit, sucking on a long pipe. You feel sore everywhere and you have a MASSIVE headache.
What do you do?

Creative Projects / My new brain dump.
« on: July 17, 2011, 06:59:57 am »
Okay. Occaisionally, I get idea in my mind, I write some stuff and then I forget it.

This is my brain dump, I'm going to put all my poems, short stories, song ect. in here.
Enjoy. As I update this, I'll bump the thread. Expect new stuff every few months.

Let's start with this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's a poem about a God, explaining how mortals must battle to keep his power up, so he can hold the universe from collapsing, so the mortals can continue to fight, thus completing a cycle that goes on.

Oh, also, I found this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
An English homework. We had to do a short "exciting" story on a subject out teacher picked, I got "Big Birthday".
It's pretty much me turning a pile of frustration (I couldn't think of ANYTHING) into a big pile of silliness.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / The Adventure of Epic Consequences! 0/6
« on: June 29, 2011, 12:32:42 pm »
Welcome! This is...

THE ADVENTURE OF EPIC CONSEQUENCES!

Woo!

A little roleplaying adventure with your host... Me!

Let's get to gameplay:

Alright. First off, I'd like to say that as a GM I will be brutal. I will not be lenient and I will make sure you are never in a position of ease. Mistakes will make you end up Dead, which is permanent.
Every action has a consequence later in the game, from how you acted to that old lady, to how you spoke to that lord.
There is no health meter, if you break a leg, you better get a crutch or splint on it before it gets you killed. If you hit your head, you will end up concussed or dead, depending on the severity of the wound.

Outcomes are often decided on dicerolls for things like falls (6 being worst damage, 1 being least) and how friendly people are to you.

If you feel like you still want to play, then next we have...

The Story
You are a peasant. You are poor. You have 5 friends. You go on an adventure in a mediveal world.
That's it. You make your own story.

You choose the actions for your character, and no matter what it is, your character will attempt it (keep it PG-13 though). That means anything, from attempting magic (which does not exist, therefore it doesn't work) to stabbing a passerby in the throat.
PvP is allowed, but will increase the chances that I'll let loose an event to get you to work together.
At the end of each post, you MUST post your inventory and all items you are carrying (and whether they are equipped or not)

The winner is the person to find...
THE CONSEQUENTIALITY ORB
An item that will allow you to change events in your past.
If you work together and find it as a team, all members of the team win.

If you all die, it's game over.
Magic doesn't exist, but gods do, and you don't want to piss them off.
After the orb is found, one turn is left. Each character gets a wish which affects the end of the story and also you can choose to instead start fighting over it for yourselves.

How to get a character:
Well, fill in this form (all are for your character).

Name:
Age:
Bio:

There are 6 slots to fill.

It'll be my first time as a GM, so point out any mistakes I make.

Other Games / Engine of War

http://www.akithgames.com/EOW_game.html

Engine of War is a top down shooter.
It's pretty fun as a little timewaster, and also pretty cheap. You wire up circuits to your weapons and things to make your mech do things like firing weapons, moving and shooting tactical missiles from an orbiting sattelite.

Very fun game.

Earlier I built an auxiliary power system that is activated if my engine is taken out by EMPs. I click the middle mouse button to switch the circuit to the batteries, then hit CTRL to toggle a switch that starts the batteries. When it goes into this mode, it cuts the power to one of the weapons, the shields and tenths the power to the engine, resulting in only 600 power usage.

Creative Projects / The Haiku thread
« on: June 13, 2011, 12:07:39 pm »
This is a thread where we shall discuss and shard Haikus.

A haiku is a Japanese style of poetry that follows a specific order:

There are always 3 lines

5 syllables in the first line
7 in the second line
5 in the third

They must reflect a season in at least one word.

Some examples:

Quote
    Whitecaps on the bay:
    A broken signboard banging
    In the April wind

Quote
The black skies of war
Brought great sorrow to her eyes
Painful Christmas Eve

The second is mine, it's about a woman worrying about her husband, who is fighting in World War 1.

Life Advice / Bringing tea to school
« on: May 22, 2011, 04:08:29 pm »
In a flask.

Basically, I want to try bringing tea to school in a flask, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I tried just tea in the flask from the start, but when I got there, the tea was WAAAAAAAAAY overbrewed.

Any suggestions?

Mafia / Fake: 0/5
« on: May 08, 2011, 07:28:32 am »
Fake. Like mafia, without a night.

Normal (as in, in almost every mafia game, that still count here) Rules:
-Votes must be in red.
-No PMing other players. You may PM the mod with game-related questions.
-No editing of posts, for any reason.
-No quoting role PMs, except for once you've been killed.
-Play to win!

Special Rules:
-5 players, one is scum.
-The only roles are Townie and Mafia (AKA, Normal and Fake)
-The game lasts one week, during which time, all players try to figure out the fake
-At the end of the game, all people are asked to vote, if the fake is voted, normals win, otherwise, fake wins.
-There is no night, but the entire game is a single day.
-You MUST READ YOUR ROLE PM.
-You must reply to your role PM with your role.

Alright? Good?

Creative Projects / Rimlander: Prolouge (tell me what you think!)
« on: April 21, 2011, 09:21:42 am »
Well, I watched a documentry on what would happen if the Earth suddenly stopped spinning. It inspired me to write this, a prolouge for a story called "Rimlander".

It tells the tale of a boy named Hoanoke (Hoh-An-Oh-Key) and basically his life story.

The basic premise is that the world is about ten thousand years after the Earth totally stopped spinning and revolving round the sun, so it just hovers in front of the sun (Yes, it's impossible for it to hover there, just pretend it can). The seas of the world flowed to the poles, leaving a ring around the centre of the Earth.

The centre of the ring has really thin air, not enough to survive in. The edges of the ring have just enough air, and humans have slowly evolved to live in it properly.

One side of the Earth is light, with scorching deserts home to the sand people. The other side is in darkness (named the Darklands) and has a faint purple hue closer to the edges (rimlands don't go so far as to see the blackness of the other side). The Darklands are home to the Burrowers, a race of people who went underground when the cold hit.

Then, there's the rimlands, a fertile land with large towns and a mediveal esque population and weaponry. The rimlands are home to "normal" people, who stayed in temperate regions and most closely resemble the humans of today.

Parts of the Earth are always raining, other parts have no rain, ever. Hoanoke lives in a dry area, but close to a wet area. People go out and collect rainwater for a living, and sell it for extortionate prices.

Is this actually the owner of the entire CCS?

Creative Projects / A 15 Minute English Homework
« on: March 30, 2011, 03:32:26 pm »
Basically, it's a 15 minute English homework I had to do, we had to write an "exciting" story, about rendom subjects that were given to us. I got "Big Birthday". Tell me what you think!

Big Birthday

Once upon a time, there was a Big Birthday. Little Johnny Rafferty was turning 8 years old, and all his little friends were so excited that they all wanted to go!
Just before the party, Mrs. Rafferty was finishing her special cake for Little Johnny, it was big and green and had a big, bulging flower on it, which was bright blue.

All the boys and girls had a fun time, and soon, they were all tired and happy and ready to eat their cake. Little Johnny blew on the candles, and whoosh! The candle fell over onto the tablecloth! The tablecloth caught fire and the blazing inferno spread to the walls! OH NO! All the little boys and girls and Mrs. Rafferty ran out of the house, and some firemen greeted them, “We're very sorry about what happened, come with us to our special place, and we'll give you tea and biscuits and presents!

So, all the boys and girls and Mrs. Rafferty and the firemen went to the special place, a bright red building with bright red trucks, and bright red poles too!
But sadly, things like this don't always turn out happy, and the firemen pulled off their clever disguises, and turned out to be short, fat men with big, bright, black moustaches!

The biggest of the short, fat men said, while stroking his moustache “We're the evil villains, and we're going to keep you here, and rob you, and make your birthday sad! Mwahahaha!”, and he locked the door after taking Mrs. Rafferty's purse, with all the money that she was going to use for Little Johnny's big present!

Then, suddenly, the tall, thin Police Man came in, “I heard you had a villain robbing you, so I came to help!” he said. Mrs. Rafferty replied, “ They stole my purse, help me!”. So, the police man took all the boys and girls and Mrs. Rafferty and went to talk to the evil, short, fat little villains. “You have been very naughty! You bad, bad villains, I'll take you away and put all of you in the time out corner!”

The Police man took the villains and put them in boxes, put them in the time out corner and got a magician to turn them into rabbits, who got sent to zoos, for people to look at them and say, “Those were the naughty villains who made Little Johnny's birthday sad, let's laugh!”, and they all guffawed at the evil, short, fat little rabbits.

Then, a short while later, Little Johnny woke up to songs! “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Little Johnny, happy birthday to you!”
Little Johnny was very happy, when he realised... “WOW! IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY!”

And yes, you did read that right, the villains got turned into rabbits. Don't ask.
