Personally, I rather like the style for storytelling so far. I'd suggest adding a little more meat to the diary though, just to make it seem more like a diary and less like a list of activities and crimes to be found by police. Hide the specifics about illegal activities in code, and for those who can't get what the meaning behind the diary entry means, add a spoiler tab.
I just downloaded and started playing LCS today, but I rather enjoy it so far. It hasn't become monotonous or boring in my, what, 8 hours straight playing it so far? I've started to get the hang of recruiting better members, though I tend to split things up a bit too much and often end up dead as a result of wandering too far into a building before realizing I need to flee.
If you would like, my archetype of a character would be much like a soldier. Skilled with firearms and combat, and sticking to trench coats during missions and nice suits when performing legal activities. The name I've used the most, so far, has been Aleksander Miller, with a secondary choice of Alex White, usually going to a second in command character. Those two characters often become my assault squad, used for clearing out the crack houses early on. Charismatic and persuasive, they also tend to be used for recruiting and fund raising, hanging out around the Co-Op, Juice Bar, and Crack Houses, speaking to almost anyone who will listen and spending a week talking to almost a hundred people, picking out only the best for recruitment, and accepting donations from everyone else, often earning more than enough money to purchase a set of M16s/AR-15s, enough ammunition to take down the local police station, and nice suits.
