You probably need something to unzip it with, such as winRAR.

Too bad you can't start up the gen again. Sort of a romantic idea to start the first Mountain Home. Er... dwarfmantic.

I've poked around with development for various handhelds and I'm going to stick my neck out and call "BS" on this one.

I think when you draw something you get used to the way it looks and you start to overlook a lot of the problems. You form a preconception about it and operate off of that. Flipping it is like looking at it for the first time again.
For me the problems that show up are usually anatomy related - I don't think they just aren't there normally. When you take a really well executed drawing and flip it still looks great.

My god.
I'm used to flipping the canvas in photoshop but I just looked at a few of my finished drawings in the mirror and they look awful.
I think I'm going to check all my sketched over in the mirror before I finish them :<
Seriously, if you want to know how your work looks to others, mirror it.

It may be time for a troll vs. ettin arena match.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bolt assigning bugged?
« on: August 27, 2010, 01:19:10 pm »
I tried pretty much everything, they just use all their bolts and only get more sometimes, resulting in marksdwarves with no ammo. I was pumping out metal, wood and bone bolts with the same results. Tried changing stockpiles, number assigned et cetera. Normally when they do decide to get more bolts, they immediately waste them all on practice.

Yeah this same thing happens to me. Marksdwarves are pretty much worthless right now, they waste all their ammo immediately and a lot of times they refuse to get more when then run out. They just stand around with no ammo.

I have this problem too... also the dwarves seem to ignore whether they own a room or not. Maybe connected issues.

Jopax: I think your work would really benefit from some observation. Try doing some still lives or landscapes or something like that. Try to match up every color and avoid putting down marks that you don't see in reality. After some practice with that you will start to understand mass and color a bit more intuitively and you will be able to make it up on the fly when you need to.

Also I found a decent colored pencil process video if you do decide to go that route: Here.

Jopax: I suggest going a lot heavier with the colors. Right now you are sort of treating it like water colors (thin translucent layers). Treat it more like your are painting the shapes, rather than just coloring in the lines you've added already. Remember, you can paint opaquely without over saturating either.

Depending on the style you are going for, it may be a good idea to start losing the lines under paint, and then bring them back later in the form of edges. A pretty good explanation of edges: here. Starting with a filled in background will help a lot with that.

Either that, or try to work on line weights and line economy if the lines are important to the style.
