There are gates?

Yes, the control levers for them are in the dining room. The dwarves eat next to them every meal.

I thought we were hoping to capture the GCS of a couple night stalkers. I only closed them because a dwarf nearly wandered out of the fortress with a bunch of night stalkers around.

Has no one opened the gates since I first closed them? I'm looking at the save now and see that they're still closed.

I just lost a crap load of people on an above ground fort because I couldn't effectively order them inside.

Need Burrows Badly.

I just noticed something really important.

Billon! We can smelt one ore piece of Tetrahedrite into two bars of Billon. Tetrahedrite counts as One Copper and One Silver in it's unsmelted form. Because of that, if we make Billon from ore at the smelters, we end up with two Billon.

95
I could do it instead, and complete all the stuff I started :D

Back of the line with you. ;D

Though, I believe I did just get bumped up another spot in the turn roster. I've got a causeway to complete. I think this time I'll make the whole thing out of Iron.

I just loaded up the save again. You guys do realize that there is another Magnetite cluster where the bar stockpile is? We still haven't even completely mined out the first one, and there's still loose magnetite around it. All the mudstone we have probably has a couple more magnetite clusters in them.

Also, I can see Hematite veins everywhere. I don't think we'll have an iron problem. We could also get at all the Tetrahedrite that Cog uncovered, use up some copper instead.

97
I remember seeing a lot of hematite veins about too. God, no goblinite is weird too.

Of course, the great thing about magnetite, where there's one vein there's usually a lot more. I've built Iron Towers before from magnetite alone. I bet no one could use a compass anywhere near those damn things. It'd be interesting if it were really magnetic though. Equip your whole army with non-ferromagnetic weapons and armor and hack away at the goblins as they try feverishly to extract themselves from their armor and pull their weapons off the towers.

DF General Discussion / Re: Will a Lenovo G550 T6600 play DF well enough?
« on: January 16, 2010, 10:49:59 pm »
The company I work for (I'm a sysadmin) just got in a couple of those. Good laptops, Lenovo really knows what they are doing.

You probably won't have too much trouble with DF on one of those. Late game when you have a lot of dorfs will get a little dicey, but that happens for everyone. The game will only ever use one core anyways. I've got a quad core system with 2.3Ghz on each core with 4 gigs of DDR3. So as far as DF is concerned, our machines are relatively in the same ballpark. All in all, it should handle DF fine.

BTW, I seem to remember Toady talking about how the Intel Integrated cards tend to handle DF better. Something about the way they implement OpenGL. So your Intel card might end up doing better than my Geforce GTX295 in DF. :P

We should probably drop the querns for proper mills when we get the wood. With as few dwarves as we have, the less time we spend on milling the better.

I've never played with orcs before. Can they be Atom Smashed? If so, just make a super long hallway with several atom smashers. Set lever to repeat.

You won't get any goodies from them, but you will still be breathing.

I always kinda imagined them like the Na'vi from Avatar, only not as awesome... or blue... or hot.

You find the Na'vi hot?

You need treatment sir.

I dunno, she did have a certain allure to her.  I wouldn't mind finding a chick with that degree of confidence, grace and firey demeanor.

Heresy! To think such things is to spit on the real hero of that movie, Colonel Miles Quaritch!

Strangely, Elves don't seem to mind wooden ballista bolts, so long as they are sailing at them at high velocities.

maybe i'm wrong.  or it took THAT long to heat up...

It'll usually survive for a minute then fail critically. Usually you first clue that is has happened is lots of messages about dangerous terrain followed by Fun.

Well, you could always mod them to make them more aggressive. Give dwarves another civ to fight.

I had always thought it strange that there is only the one hostile race to dwarves. Atleast, only the one hostile race that can actually put up a decent fight. (I've never had a Kobold siege, but I've heard their spearbolds have a tendency to one shot dorfs.)
