Wait, I try to shift my own priority up 2, and instead gain 2 action points?

DF General Discussion / Re: The CPU - FPS test

The first AMD chips were Intel-licensed designs, and so were identical to the Intel version. Instead, AMD had a reputation as a cheaper alternative.
It wasn't until the Athlon XP that AMD started making chips which obviously outperformed the competition at a lower clock. 'course, that wasn't hard when their competition was the P4.
EDIT: Some digging even turns up that at one point Intel had a 75MHz chip that performed similarly to AMD's 133MHz cpu. That's a nice contrast to the P4 era :)

DF General Discussion / Re: Init options for SDL versions
« on: July 28, 2010, 07:26:16 am »
The comment in the init file says that :STANDARD should be a could blend of speed and reliability. It used to be the default option, too. It's almost always faster than 2D mode.
The other options you'll have to try.

Athlon X2 5600+ 2.8GHz dual-core: 25-30 fps
EDIT: Changing to print-mode:standard only gets me a couple of fps more

GRAPHICS:ON enables using a graphics set (for creature graphics). It's independent of SDL.

SDL is always used for setting up the window and for input (except for PRINT_MODE:TEXT (linux only), which runs as a console app), and is used for rendering in PRINT_MODE:2D and PRINT_MODE:2DASYNC. PRINT_MODE:STANDARD, :ACCUM_BUFFER, :FRAME_BUFFER and :VBO all use opengl for actual rendering. No idea about :PARTIAL, it's either based on :STANDARD or :2D.

I use eset nod32, and I challenge you to show how that program would slow down DF :P

It is the fastest anti-virus on the market, by far, and it is always in the top ranking in virus detection.

Norton is the slowest and worst anti-virus on the market, even compared to actual viruses.

Some viruses have been known to clean other viruses and install windows patches. e.g.. I've never seen Norton do either (ok that was a bit harsh). I have a similar opinion of McAffee and AVG. IMO Nod32 is great, and Avast's free home version is pretty good too.

I'm tempted to run this test on my Win7 eeepc...
Brings a new meaning to "low fps".

If it fails to launch with "This application has failed to start because msvcp100.dll was not found" or similar you might not have the latest 32-bit C++ redistributable. You can get it from Microsoft here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=a7b7a05e-6de6-4d3a-a423-37bf0912db84&displaylang=en.

If you change the project properties to static link to the vc++ runtime then you'll get a slightly larger executable but people won't need to install the 2010 runtime to run it.

Archery targets.

I loaded up my save in the new version, spent a minute trying to find my archery range before figuring it was the room with Xs down both sides: bins of ammo and archery targets.

I much prefer donating to seeing pages with ads on.

I would actually expect him to earn less if he put ads on his site.

France I could understand, but surely Germany should be dwarf-populated? Fix it!

I hope someone can post a picture that does it justice. Is there a 3D visualiser that works with this version?

DF General Discussion / Re: Who here plays DF without sets?
« on: July 15, 2010, 07:42:33 am »
No tile sets for me. It annoys me when actual words get messed up for the sake of a tileset. Also i like using my imagination to describe stuff.
I use tiles, but a set without letters screwed up. I can't stand the ones that are basically unreadable either.

EDIT: Oh, and it's square.

It's meant to be slightly more colorful, but it "lost color definition" when saving to a different format.
That's because you saved it as a jpeg. Jpegs are for "photo" type pictures, they don't work so well for pictures like yours.
EDIT: Unless photobucket converted it, and you actually had it as something worse originally, like gif.
