Play With Your Buddies / A DS Diary-But what to play?
« on: November 02, 2012, 03:17:16 pm »
Fun fact: I'm a Nintendo gamer as well as a PC, and my DSi is probably the second best console I own. Recently, I've also become intrigued by game diaries of Skyrim and GalCiv, so I've decided to combine the two: diaries of DS games. However, to make this a bit more interesting, you guys will be choosing some of the details for me, including the game. Such as to make it easier, I've made a shortlist of games that I have at my disposal and am willing to play in diary format. Take your pick in the poll.

Advance Wars is the mother of all TBS games, in my opinion. For the unaware, you control an army, and have the simple goal of getting one of your men to do the antsy pants dance on your opponent's HQ for long enough to capture it. In my eyes, it's ridiculously deep for such simple mechanics, especially when you add fog of war, weather and those ridiculous CO powers. Needless to say, I really like this game. I could do the campaign which, for reasons I'm not too sure of myself, I have never gotten around to completing, or do a "Skirmish", which are probably more interesting because with four teams, you get four times the action.

Dokapon Journey can really only described as the illegitimate child of Dragon Quest and Monopoly. You are adventurers! The kingdom is being attacked by ((GENERIC NASTIES))! Save the world! Receive a princess! And make as much money as you can while you're at it. With ridiculous levels of getting screwed over by your opponents, some ridiculous plot lines and a large quantity of hatred towards the Counter option, this is basically comedy gold. If I get to do this, I'll go through the Story Mode, take over the kingdom of Dokapon and marry the princess. And optionally bankrupt all of the everyone.

Puzzle Quest 2 is basically Bejewelled's more intelligent older brother. You match gems to gain Mana, match skulls to damage your opponent and cast spells to BLOW UP THE EVERYTHING. Unless your opponent has a good Morale stat, in which case SPELL RESIST FOR EVERYBODY! There are quite a large number of ridiculous combos you can pull off with the right spells, which include the odd seven-in-a-row (which the game treats as a 5 in a row  :-\) and some very very very large numbers at times.

...Yeah. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'll look into them for a bit, consider doing them and maybe then proceed to do them. Either way, take your pick and I'll check to see what I'll be playing, and also break out Ye Olde Book of RPG-Relatedeth Puns.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Race World-Manage Ye Racing Team!
« on: October 27, 2012, 02:44:13 pm »
This is a game involving copious amounts of cars. If you do not like cars, leave now. This game also requires management. If you do not like management, you can also leave now. Anyone left? Good. This is a game where you manage a racing team, by hiring racers, buying cars, entering events, and hopefully winning them. Drivers will get better as time progresses, but with other teams in the mix as well, they may put in offers for your drivers-and they may accept them... Can you manage your team and win?

To join, you shall fill in this simple sheet!

Code: [Select]
Team Name: What do you want your team to be called?
Team Colour: Give me an RGB value, please.
Starting Driver Name: You get a free driver! Name him!
Starting Driver Colour: Another RGB colour please.

All teams are given an infinite supply of GENERIC cars-you can enter your racer in any event that requires them, and there will ALWAYS be races that need them. However, later in the infinite season, there may (read: will) be races with higher cash rewards that need new cars. Any cars you will need will be available for purchase-but more on that later. Right now you need to earn money to buy said cars with-you only start with $50k, and won't get you too far. To get further up in the rankings, you need to enter races with your driver!

This is pretty simple. After I declare the list of races available, you simply need to say that you want your driver to enter, and obviously what race. There can only be six racers per event, and if there is an overflow, the entrants will be dictated randomly. However, if your racer is kicked out but there is an open race that he could feasibly join, it'll automatically happen. Races will be done using GeneRally with screenshots. The winner will get the listed prize money for his team (after the driver's cut) and the driver will also gain skill-it'll usually be 6 for a first, 5 for second etc.

"Wait," you may be asking, "The driver gets a cut? WHY WASN'T I INFORMED ABOUT THIS!" Well, hold ye horses, fellow, because I will explain. Beside his skill, a racer also has a contract. For the starting driver, it's automatically a 10 week, $0k signing, 0% cut contract, so basically it costs you nothing. Other racers may buy your racer out of the contract, and you'll have to negotiate over it... unless the 10 week contract runs out. After which point, the racer becomes a free agent and anyone can hire him and he'll usually take the best looking offer.

You can also create racers for your team. You can name the new fellow and give him a colour, but the contract for him will be different: unless you don't have a driver, the signing fee is $10k. He'll have the bare minimum of 0 skills, like all new drivers, but he's a new driver-what do you expect? He'll have the usual 10 week contract and take a 0% cut, but as with all drivers, better ones demand better pay checks (Assume that new drivers survive on sponsorships etc).

Of course, GENERIC vehicles may not always be enough. When a new race comes up and needs a new car type, it'll be available for sale. You can buy one for the marked price, and a driver can use it in the events. However, what if you have two drivers? You need to buy two cars, or only enter one man in the event. There are always infinite numbers of GENERIC cars, however, so you needn't worry about them. And if you want to, you can sell a car for half its worth.

The weeks will last however long I deem appropriate. Probably a week. Whatever. With each week, I'll post a few screenshots for each race and all the important things that happened, along with a list of teams and racers. So if you think you can keep your cool and have your team rise to the top, then by all means, try. After all, what's the worse that could happen? Here, have a few races for Week 1.

WEEK 1 RACE LISTINGS

OFHUL CIRCUIT DERBY LOOP
GENERIC Class
20 laps on the world's simplest track with only two corners.
FIRST: $12k
SECOND: $9k
THIRD: $7k
FOURTH: $5k
FIFTH: $3k
SIXTH: $0k

AUSTRALIA CITY CIRCUIT
GENERIC Class
7 laps in Australia's city center, with tight corners, fast straights and one very lethal two way road!

SECOND: $9k
THIRD: $7k
FOURTH: $5k

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Minecraft: The Freeform Roleplay
« on: October 18, 2012, 04:55:38 pm »
((This is basically Minecraft in freeform roleplay style. General RP rules apply, ignore any god modders etc. I'll make an OOC thread if there's demand for one.))

Swoooosh. Swoooosh. The shore lapped at Alex's ankles as he slowly woke up and dragged himself to his feet. He looked through tired and sun-glazed eyes to find a scene around him that he didn't recognise. All he knew is that he was on a beach with numerous other people, and... hm. He wasn't sure what next. He wasn't even aware of how he got on that beach. He didn't even know who he was beyond the single word Alex, and even then that was most likely made up by his mind. He decided to see what there was around him.

After a short investigation, not much beyond the obvious was discovered. The beach linked to a small stretch of plain, then into a small forest. Beyond that, a small mountain was visible, complete with snow atop the peak. Alex sat down on the beach, trying to think of a plan of action. He knew a few things about survival-quite why he knew not-but he knew shelter was the most important thing he needed to have. However, the only available material was in the form of trees and the only tools were his fists. Sighing, he began punching the first tree he could get to in an effort to make some form of building material.

Roll To Dodge / The Redshirt Army
« on: October 04, 2012, 04:24:41 pm »
The year is... uh... let's just ballpark it ar 2500. In 2100, the Terra Firma Alliance establisted intergalactual dominance, but that was quickly ruined by the assassination of the President, John Doe. The Alliance fragmented, splitting into several alliances of its own right. And in true feudalism style, they all declared war on each other. In 2250, Cloning was perfected-endless swarm of clones-or "Redshirts"-could be used instead of people with families. However, they are all very much under equipped. VERY much so.

You are a Redshirt.

Your job is to land on a planet with the Redshirt Spawner, take said planet and move on. Your weapons... are limited. So is the spawner-it only has 500 Redshirt in production. But you can overcome all odds. You. Are. Redshirts.

Your first mission is at Isola-the RED army (you) want to take the mining outpost from the YEL forces. They have 200 Shirts, and low defences. The Captain (The first person to post) will recieve a Grenade Launcher, everyone else will be armed with Standard Rifles. Your ship lands in the desert 1km off the base itself: what do you do?

((Basically, large scale deathmatch because why not.))

Yes, gentlemen, I have taken it upon myself to reintroduce the most classic of games to our society. And so, I present to you, Tacticus. Let us begin, shall we? From the Provincial Settings III book, I shall establish a map for us-specifically, a 12 by 12 grassy plains. Upon it, as by the Classical Creatures Compendium, I shall place a lone Elephant.

Today, despite all other suggestions, is the 14th of July. And as it happens, the 14th is also a young man's birthday. A good question would be to inquire what his name is. Do you know?

Roll To Dodge / Roll To Dodge LIVE-LIVE AGAIN
« on: June 10, 2012, 03:39:18 pm »
You were just another member on the Bay12 forums. You played Roll to Dodge amongst the likes of Sean Mirrsen, IronyOwl, Dermonster, piecewise... maybe you are one of these people? Regardless, it was just another day-sat in front of the 'top, browsing the forums... until a portal appeared on your screen and no less than literally pulled you through it. You fell through time and space... and landed in a grey metalic room with a large selection of people of varying age and gender. What happened next was somewhat odd.

Welcome to Roll To Dodge LIVE, an improvised mashup between RTD classic Multiworld Madness and Einsteinium Roulette. Specifically, the somewhat crazy worlds of the former and the deathsanity of the latter. All done live and on the go on a tool called roll20.net, which can be described in 2 words as maptools online. If you're using a browser right now, you can join in and play. I want this to be a weekly thing-every Friday/Saturday at around 1900 hours GMT, we will explore various worlds, defeat unknown forces and above all, kick ass, chew bubblegum. The time is like that because it works best for me, but if you guys want to go earlier I can toy with my schedule. However, this week, we will worry about the plot-after all, you just went through time! If you want in, register your interest here. ((Bonus points if you have an avatar))

Roll To Dodge / Mario Kart Grand Prix-Kirby Open
« on: June 02, 2012, 05:24:17 am »

The Mario Kart Grand Prix is a prestigious event. Thousands upon thousands of people come to see it every year, and none are dissapointed. People enter the ranks and get either spat out or rise to the top of fame and fortune. But what about those who do not wish to bother with all of the glitz, the glamour, the backstage, and just want to do what they know how to do the best-race? Fortunately, there is a medium for people in that catagory. Named after a certain pink spherical character who is reported to have given a hi-five to a certain blue-hatted Boo, the Kirby Open still gets a few followers, but all are only interested in one thing-the racing.

The rules are exactly the same as in the Grand Prix-racers from around the world take to the grid, and the first person to go around the track enough times is declared the victor. Here, however, there are no prizes, no backstage shenanigens, heck, there isn't even an entry fee. Karts are freely supplied by donators, although modules are allowed to be installed provided they are supplied by the racers. It's basically all about the racing, and that's how it really should be.

Rules heartily stolen from Monk12.

So it's getting comparitively late where I am and I'm browsing the forums and I see Roller's Block and I think "Huh, why doesn't the main Forum Games board have one of these?" And against my better judgement, here I am, making a game discussion thread for those lacking the intellect for Mafia but also lacking the insanity for Roll To Dodge.

Gaming Block is basically the same idea. You have an idea, you put it into the thread. You need an idea, you pull out a net and fish it out. You're unsure about an idea, you hold it in until it's perfectly rusty. There was also something about crediting the thread when taking ideas, but I don't think anyone's ever done that. So don't bother.

To get the ball rolling, would anybody be interested in a Peasant Adventure Redux? For those unaware, Peasant Adventure is one of the all time classic games, up with Do Not Follow The Rainbow Snail and You Are Scientist (Hey, you know all those You Are X games? Scientist was the first. And best.) where the players are peasants and get to do stuff. Sorry, I cannot remember details, but I recall it being funny as heck. Especially NUKE's edition. That guy is amazing.

Roll To Dodge / A Pirate's World ARRRRRRTD! [TURN 4]
« on: May 06, 2012, 04:21:29 pm »
Arrrrrr, me hearties! Welcome to A Pirate ARRRRRRRTD! Shiver me timbers and batton down the hatches! ...You want me to stop with the Pirate accent? Fiiiiiiine. In this game you play as a bunch of pirates. Your goal is to plunder the high seas and maybe get some sweet loot as well. You must work together to keep your ship afloat, taking quests and making profits along the way. Oh, and there may be explosions.

...You want backstory? Fine.

It's the 1700s in the fantasy universe and all of the races have decided to work reasonably well together to make massive cities across several continents. While most races are present in any city, the population tends to be skewered towards one race-the leader of the city tends to be of said race. Most of the cities rely heavily on naval trade to keep their supplies up, but where there's trade, there's piracy.

Well, not yet. There are a few odd pirates, but only one or two are known, and they tend to be the nes in the week's newspaper. Although you don't know it yet, it's your turn to take to the oceanic stage...

Everything in this game is resolved by the standard d6±modifier. However, to reduce GM strain, you need to look after your own stats. and such. I'll give you all the info you need, but make sure to post it with your actions please.

And with that, your sign-up sheet!

Name: (Be inventive. But not sttupid.)
Race: (You MAY get bonuses and/or penalties for your race. Be sensible though.)
Gender: (No bonus points for filling this bit in-do it anyway, though.)
Skills: (Leave blank, you'll need it later.)
Inventory: 5 Gold
Status: Drunk
Bio: (And now describe your character to me. Because this isn't FCFS, this will increase your odds of getting in.)

I need 6 will-be pirates, so... yeah. Fill dat sheet.

Roll To Dodge / BayStuck [Yet another Homestuck RTD]
« on: April 21, 2012, 04:38:00 pm »
...In hindsight, inspiration should have come across my face on the 13th, but I digress.

Anyway, welcome to yet another Homestuck RTD. We will attempt to slay imps, cruxtrude cruxtruders and alchemise the WARHAMMER OF ZILLYHOO. Ahem. This is going to be a 6-player affair with minimal time shenanigans, more universe swapping when things go wrong. As in, if you die, you will be shuffled with someone else, unless there is a REALLY good reason for revival.

So what makes this game special? LevelTiering! You start at Tier 1, and so have one feat and can alchemise things up to a +1 overall boost. This makes more sense later. To level up, you need to KILL IMPS and such. With every level up comes a new perk, which is theorised by you and made into stats by me. It could be a simple +1 to something, or an extra few points of damage in close quarters. If you come up with the idea, I'll try to statify it.

Do you want in? No? Well carry on anyway. Fill in the below character sheet. This is NOT first come first served-if you want in, you need a REALLY good sheet. Have fun. Oh, nearly forgot-you need to look after your own stats. If I did, I'd be buried under space on my DSi =P

Name: (Your name, silly!)
Gender: (In case Vector/Yuuko/Someone who wants to play a female shows up)
Vitality: 25/25
Tier: 1
Boon: 0/100
Feat: (Describe your character's talent to me! Can they fight? Can they guitar? Can they do the windy thing?)
Inv.: (Basic personal items, no weapons without a REALLY, REALLY good reason)
Pesterchum: (Your name, color and quirk please)
Bio: (The real difference maker-explain your character to me in 500 words starting now!)

Please ask any questions you may have.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Spam Army [DEATH COUNT: 34]
« on: March 28, 2012, 11:40:54 am »
Spam Army is simple. I'll make a chamber with a start an an exit. You have 1Hp and infinite lives. 10 of you need to get to the exit. If you do, you win. The difficult bit? I will toss every cruel twist my mind has at you. Deaths WILL happen. If you do not, you have outwitted me and should feel somewhat proud. Death may be a solution to some puzzles though, because I am... evil. Oh, I'm sorry, you want back story? Fine, have backstory.

The science company Kirbature Labs thrives itself on being the top of the market when it comes to death traps, which has a surprisingly large market what with all the evil geniuses around. However, in an economic recession, the shareholders and potential buyers want some confirmation that their product are good quality for money. Luckily, they have the test chambers filled with some of their most effective traps. With the cameras on and the popcorn bucketed, everyone is waiting for the spectacle to come.

There will be ten (10) people alive at any time. You are all clones or something and are VERY squishy-you will die very quickly. To avoid death, you must post your characters actions and do it in a way that grabs my attention. Do this and you will live. The first 10 to call in will be the first 10, and everyone else will be on the quick shuffle waitlist.
God I suck at OPs...

Roll To Dodge / What Plot? [Turn 16-I am an asshole]
« on: February 28, 2012, 05:23:04 pm »
Ladies and gentlemen, the Kirby has risen again, and he brings with him a new game. And the plot can go fuck itself because there isn't one. Yes, this is inspired by Kisame's work. Yes, this will be really silly. Yes, that RTD Discussion Thread is mine. Moving swiftly on.

There are three rules to this game.

1) Keep track of your own inventory.
2) Preface all actions with a >
3) You start with 20Hp.

The first 8 people to join are in. Yes, this is a ridiculously short first post. Carry on.[/undramaticreentry]
