Actually, why DON'T we go play with ALL THE VENICES? Given their gimmick, this might end up as Ancient Greece: The Game.
...So we all end up trading with each other while at the same time building up an army since we can't win diplomatic with all the venices around, leading to the entire map being carpeted with units that won't be used as we are planning against each other?

And don't get me started on multifaceted wars of venice. You can't even tell which venice is which.

Exactly. I think you can rename cities, though.
That and identical players get different colours.
