There is a HP system in place, so I can stop a fight when 25% is reached.
Like you say, though, if damage goes way over that, death or serious injury is definitely a possibility.

Uh, I probably can't go gather my own food. As soon as I so much as look at a plant it withers and dies. :P

Fuzz:

Kweed''rik'tik hauls the eagle over to you and drops it where you work. You set about plucking its feathers, setting aside the strongest undamaged ones for other tasks. You cut the bird's head off and hack its beak away; the rest of the head is too damaged to be useful.
-1 messy-faced giant eagle corpse
+33 giant eagle feathers
+7 giant eagle bones
+4 giant eagle meals
+1 giant eagle beak

Likesfighting comes to help you make armour from the mantis chitin. Together you bend and bash the pieces of the creature's exoskeleton until they're of a shape that could fit on the torso of a kobold.
-2 units subtle chitin
+2 subtle chitin armour plates

-you are at the kobold cave-

Nreelrroi:

You head away from the camp and to a meadow you sometimes visit. Butterflies flit around you and you delight in their colours, while bunnies graze at your feet, undisturbed by your presence.

You drop to your belly amidst the peaceful scene and start picking flowers. Sadly, every time you try to pick one, you accidentally crush the petals. After a while, and with a small pile of destroyed flowers in front of you, you give up.

-you are in a meadow near the kobold cave-

Kurtulmak:

You start flinging sticks at the beak dogs, causing them to screech and hiss. Most of them eventually go off to do other things, but 2 indeed remain behind to keep an eye on you. You seize the moent and leap from the tree, aiming for a beak dog. It hops back out of your way and you land on your feet in front of it.

You grab one of the beak dogs around its mouth so it can't bite you, and whisper to it, shifting your eyebrows to look as much like an adorable baby beak dog as you can. It tilts its head at you and relaxes.

The other beak dog, though, can't see your face right now, and you fail to avoid it as it scratches your left leg with its foot. You swing your net at it and catch it by its legs, tripping it over. While it struggles with the net, you assume the most innocent, undelicious stance you can, and by the time the beak dog is back up it has no desire to fight you.
medium wound
+2 non-tame, non-hostile beak dogs

You head over to the human town and the beak dogs follow out of curiousity. You find the kitchen you were looking for and, using one of the beak dogs as a step, clamber in through the window. A large human woman is standing by the stove, stirring something delicious. You silently snatch a pair of glass bottles (which you assume contain fun juice) and move them over by the window.

Then you notice the bag of white-rock on the table next to where the human is cooking. In a stroke of genius you climb back out of the window, run around the house and bang on the door. You run to the window again as fast as you can, and pull up just as you see the human take her apron off and leave the room. You rush in, grab the bag of white rock, the apron, a handful of stew and the bottles, then dive back out of the window. You scamper off into the forest, clinking slightly, before you stop to share your food with the beak dogs.
+2 non-tame, friendly beak dogs
+1 bag of white-rock
+2 glass bottles of something
+1 large floral-embroidered apron (2 cloth units)
+3 immediately-eaten hearty stew meals

-you are near the Southern human town, with stolen goods and a pair of beak dogs-

Tiggi:

You finish dancing your awesome victory dance of cougar-teasing (your shaking catches the eye of all the nearby males) and dash off along the river, into the forest, on your way to steal clothes. You move through the forest like little more than a shadow, blending in perfectly with the background. Then, suddenly you bump into something you can't quite see. Something spins around in front of you and stares at you with compound eyes briefly. It's a mantis-man, and it seems you were equally startled by one another.

It reacts first, slashing at you, but you bring up your buckler and shove it, knocking it off balance. You kick it in its chest, not seeming to harm it, but sending it staggering back. You take the opportunity to abscond. It's not worth the risk fighting something like this without a proper weapon.
Tiggi gained a level in blocker!

You arrive at the town; it's bustling with activity.

-you are outside the human forest town-

Likesfighting:

You help Fuzz bash the chitin armour into shape, and he's grateful for your good performance.

You then venture out from the cave to hunt again, but a couple of hours later and all you've managed to find are trees.

...damn trees, always messing up your tracking.

-you are a short ways from the kobold cave-

Kweed''rik'tik:

You try to relax, but your back is really itchy and you can't help but rub up against a tree. Suddenly you realise this was a bad idea when you notice you're rubbing against a thorn tree. Your back hurts a lot more; perhaps a fixer oughta take a look at it. No fixer is here right now, though.
your medium wound has worsened slightly

Still, you're sure you look awful good in your new helmet.

-you are at the kobold cave, looking like a hedgehog-

Ichi:

Once more you make the journey to the Southern human town, and once again you are unnoticed, although you don't notice anything that could notice you anyway.

When you arrive you meet Kurtulmak, with a couple of beak dogs strolling either side of him. His arms are laden with goods.

-you are outside the Southern human town-

Ungbuktu:

You find a soft patch in the cave and start digging out a sleeping-hole with your hands. You make slow progress, and it'd probably be much easier with a tool, but you don't know what tool you'd use and you won't just give up. Within the few hours you've worked, you managed to dig 2 holes, deep and large enough to be comfortable and still out of sight.
+2 piles of dirt
+2 stealthy sleepy holes

-you are at the kobold cave-

Also you like hanky panky :D

Hot is fine, hanky panky is fine, but a bath? :D
Well, I suppose it could do for swimming practice.

216
Baths? Sounds like something an elf would think of!

I'm just working on a new set of character sheets with summed up rolls for various things. It'll make the rolling a lot faster when it's done, and standardise some stuff I've been making up as I go along. :D

For two-weapon attacking, I've taken the lower hit roll of the two with a penalty, and added its average damage (up to a max of the penalty to attack you took). You still have a decent attack roll, and the damage is now very high (in theory you could kill any other kobold but yourself in one hit).

Fuzz, from now on I'll ask that you specify whether armour is being made large or normal, so it's worth having an idea who it's for. In the meantime I'll just have you shape parts.

I haven't really considered dual wielding in detail. If you're using one weapon offensively and one defensively then you'll just get the attack bonuses and damage from the offensive one, and the block bonus from the defensive one. Switching around should be fine.

If you're using both to attack, you'll probably get a fixed bonus to damage (instead of the second weapon's full damage dice) at the cost of a penalty to hit.

The pebbles bag is pretty small, though, like a dice bag. Right now kobolds mostly tuck stuff into their loincloths :P

Finally, a note to all: if you craft something and don't say you want to keep a hold of it, I'll be fairly liberal in its allocation. If you've been holding onto a tool for a while, or take quite a lot of equipment, I'll likely put it back into the group inventory. Like I say, though, if you're hoarding, let me know.

EDIT: Also, I was going to point out that Gar's pretty stable, but he did in fact leap into the darkness to rescue his friends. So... you win this round, but you know what they say. In a crazy world, a sane man's crazy. :D

Wouldn't you want a second-in-command who would be willing to leap into the darkness to rescue you? :D

Also, in DIGGING PLAN GAR-ALPHA, +s are doors and the v is a mark for where a future magma channel will be built once we hit deep magma and build a really tall pumpstack - more magma channels will be built to the right for smelters and stuff. Either that or the fortress eventually moves down. When we first hit magma the likelihood is that we temporarily build workshops down there.

At least 5.

I'll keep a hold of that dagger. It's a nice reminder of my mountainhome adventure, and it has a pretty nice inlay.

Nreelrroi:

You wake up before the rest of the tribe and greet the starry sky above you with some solemn yips and shrieks. You wake the others, who kind of grumble at you and start their business for the day.

-you are at the kobold cave-

Fuzz:

Carrying around both of these weapons everywhere is getting kind of heavy, so you drop off the mace-stick.

You go ahead and start butchering the mantis-man's corpse. You're getting a knack for taking bodies apart! There isn't much meat on this thing, but you get quite a lot of its exoskeleton, and its claws.
-1 mantis-man corpse
+5 units subtle chitin
+2 mantis-man claws
+3 mantis-man meals

-you are at the kobold cave-

Kurtulmak:

You head off for the Southern human town. On your way there a pack of beak dogs smells you. You try to run away from them, but they give chase and quickly have you surrounded. You clamber up a tree and start running amongst the branches, terrified. The pack, of five or maybe more, is persistent, however, and you don't manage to shake them. You know how tenacious these creatures can be, and that waiting is useless, so you carefully continue your journey amongst the treetops.

-you are near the human town, up a tree surrounded by beak dogs-

Kweed''rik'tik:

Taking the stone-riddled club that Fuzz made and a fish to chew along the way, you set off into the wilderness, determined to bring back a kill more impressive than those the others have made. You ignore a line of rabbit-sized ants and continue your search. A warren of rats is similarly beneath you. You club a tiny, harmless snake for distracting you from tracking real monsters and leave it behind.

You venture deep into the hills, where more savage things roam. Eventually you spot a giant eagle flying not far above you, and decide that this enemy is suitably matched to you.

You stand out in the open and begin tossing rocks at it. It's directly above you, however, and when you miss the pebbles fall right back down onto you. You take a step back and try again, hitting the bird in the tail. It swoops down and claws at you, but you smack its feet away with your mace. You strike back at it, but it rises again, so you throw another rock past it before it comes back in for more.

You swing again, but it twists and tries to scratch you again; you bend away from its attack. You try to grab it by the tail, but once again it's up in the air. More rocks are thrown, but none find their mark.

The eagle divebombs you, catching you off guard and badly scratching your back. You spin around, club held straight in outstretched arms, and hit the bird in the neck with all your might, dislodging two of the stones from the mace, which now jut out of the creature. The eagle is sent bouncing off the ground, but it tucks its wings in just in time to avoid them being damaged.

You sieze the opportunity to leap upon your prey. It tries to bite you as you rush in, but you swing your mace down vertically and cave its head in. One stone from the mace remains in its forehead like a horn.
+1 messy-faced giant eagle corpse
medium wound

You pluck the stones from the eagle and jam them back into the mace before you heft the bird over your shoulder and haul it back to camp.

-you are at the kobold cave, wearing a dead eagle like a cape-

Ichi:

You grab the pair of baboon skulls and a piece of leather and set to making helmets of them.

Your first attempt presents some problems; the jaw keeps getting in the way of putting it on, so eventually you just tear it off, but that breaks off the upper fangs and snaps the leather strap you had attached, and now you need to fix that. Still, you end up with something that will stay attached to a kobold's head and looks pretty fearsome, so that's nice.

Your second attempt goes much smoother, and you manage to leave the lower jaw attached this time, so the wearer peers out from the grinning visage of a baboon skull. Plus, their teeth are rather impressive.

You add blood to both skulls' teeth to make them look even more fearsome. Why, if you hadn't made these yourself, you'd scream just by looking at them! As it stands, you settle for jumping a little.
-2 baboon skulls
-1 unit of leather
+1 baboon skull cap
+1 grinning baboon skull helm

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tiggi:

With a stern look as if to say "I'll teach you a lesson, you cougar skull!" you pick up the cougar skull and take it off into a corner. You tear a unit of leather into three strips. You don't have any idea how to attach the leather to the skull, however and no matter how hard you press it it doesn't seem to stay.

You give up with the leather and try cloth. This proves much easier to work with as you tie it around the holes in the skull, and you're soon prancing about with a cougar skull firmly attached to your head.
-1 unit leather
+3 leather strips
-1 unit rough cloth
-1 cougar skull
+1 cougar skull cap
+6 rough cloth strips

-you are at the kobold cave-

Schlakal:

You give the pony a stroke and it takes to you immediately. You set off back to the forest town. The pony seems to like moving quickly, and you keep tripping trying to keep up, so you eventually climb onto the pony's back. You cling to it with all four of your limbs, and manage to stay mounted. The journey there is otherwise uneventful.

You tether the pony to a tree a little ways outside the town and sneak up to a building. The townsfolk are beginning to rise and go about their daily tasks. You wonder how you're going to create magic heat stuff in a place like this.
Schlakal has gained a level in sneaker!

-you are at the human forest town-

Ungbuktu:

You begin your day by gathering blades of grass and bits of scrub. It goes fairly well, and you return with an armful of plant pieces. You take a piece of rough cloth and start jabbing the blades of grass and twigs through the material. You even attach a few bits of wood to make it look like an authentic bush. Perhaps some of the less sneaky kobolds could do with something like this.
-1 unit rough cloth
-2 decent sticks
+1 bush disguise tunic
Ungbuktu has gained a level in crafter!

You continue by cutting a log down into a flat shape, making a fine face for a shield. Attaching the leather strips is more difficult, and though you manage it, they seem like they might come off if pulled too hard.
-1 log
-1 leather strip
+1 loose wooden shield

You then move onto gathering mud and trying to form it into a bucket. It won't seem to stay in the shape you make it, though, and you just get pretty dirty.

-you are at the kobold cave-

Likesfighting:

You take some time to check on your shoulder wound. It's already starting to heal nicely, and the pain is lessening.
you no longer suffer any penalties from your medium wound; it can be considered healed

Everyone had a nice, meaty breakfast.

Naturally we should have a central shaft of up/down stairs and rooms radiating out from those on each floor. The only concern about that is how far we let caravans in, but otherwise going up or down Z-levels keeps the whole fort closer together.

225
At some point either to the left or right of the yellow. I wasn't too concerned with how we're attaching the fort to the surface, just that there's enough room left around what I'm digging.
