Okay, so I think I'm going to have to stop trying medium missions in the ruins. Bone commanders are just completely flattening every team that comes across them.

152
Speaking of which, orbs.  Without spoiling them for me (I almost won once, 7 hp left) is there anything to be gained from activating one, or are they just yet another fuck you mechanic?

they always drop an ancestral trinket.

153
Arbalests are a tad weak early game but they scale into one of the best damage dealers. This is because the damage and crit bonus on snipers shot increase with each level and their really high accuracy makes them perfect for certain trinkets (like the ancestral bracer).

Though they got buffed a bit since their release so they're still pretty good early game.

No, its mechanics.

155
Soldering stuff should work.

General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?
« on: September 20, 2015, 04:43:31 pm »
My problem with MAL is the exact opposite; that people aren't critical enough and have a tendency to give 10/10, 9/10, or 8/10 scores to anything they like, regardless of how good it actually is from a scrutinized viewpoint.

Monster Musume has a 7.50 rating currently, and it's a bog standard by-the-books harem series that just happens to have monster girls in it, does that really justify a 7.5/10? (Keeping in mind that 5 means average to any legitimate critical mind, an absolute medium, mediocre.)
Even in terms of harems it is nothing special, nothing that justifies a rating like that, but many people have the opinion that anything they enjoyed MUST be amazing or it would mean they don't have good taste, and that's impossible, right?

Considering that it's 7.5 ranking puts it at number 1423 on the top anime list I think its less of people on MAL actually thinking its good and more of that they just don't agree with your ranking system.
I feel that a lot of public ranking systems tend to end up on the higher end of the scale because thats what we're taught in school. In school a 7/10 is indeed quite average while a 5/10 is a complete failure.

I agree, I don't think ceramics are going to add a ton to the game.

But yeah, NX-17 Charge Rifles can be made with a vacutainer, 8 amplifier circuits, and 8 circuit boards. I always thought that one was a  bit silly.

You can make nuclear powered cars

Using factory made plutonium power cells and reactors.

install bionics into yourself

Using self-installing CBM packs.

mutate into things that aren't just a sterile human

Using alien goo magical thing.

Ok, how bout making high powered energy rifles with nothing but a vacutainer and a collection of common circuit components?

I don't really like any of these ideas. Readings never really bothered me, as I can just go browse bay 12 for a couple minutes while its going on.

I don't see how having to lug your books around would be a problem. Or to be more precise, I don't see why you would have to lug them around in the first place. It's not like you need to craft mutagen in the middle of a triffid nest, so you can just leave the books at you're base/car.

Thou reduced success chance on recipes isn't a terrible idea.

Personally, I think that the best workaround for recipes that take forever and a day to learn would be that if you had the requisite skill and the book in your inventory, you could craft the item. After all, what would you rather do: memorize how to build a death ray, or build a death ray step-by-step from instructions?

You've been able to do that for, like, 700 versions now.

I used my locker all the time in high school. This was mostly because we weren't allowed to use backpacks in school (the board was afraid of us smuggling in weapons).

I CAN agree with that. Some of the stuff the AI gets away with is utter horseshit.

Like what? Here's a complete list of AI bonuses, still valid for this version.
I have yet to see a nation receive the same amount of AE as I would for doing the same thing. Seriously, I've seen France swallow shitloads of OPMs and barely have a dent in relations. I play as them and swallow ONE and everyone is forming fucking coalitions against me because I'm the most horrible warmonger to have existed on this earth.

Lucky nations do receive reduced AE.

Also there's a shit tone of modifiers on AE. In particular France gets a bunch reduced since they have cores/claims on like, everywhere around them when they start. (at least when I last played, haven't done so for about half a year).

Hey guys, can you give me some advice on how to deal with encumbrance? All of the good carrying clothing (backpacks, trechcoats, etc.) all have an encumbrance value of 2 or more which can severely cripple a character.

I'm absolutely clueless about how I'm supposed to carry a passable amount of stuff or stay warm without getting myself rendered useless in melee encounters.

Well for one, you just have to tank a bit of encumbrance. If you can stay below 3/30 torso encumbrance you're doing pretty good. Though its best to stay a bit lower early in the game when your melee skills are shit (investing a couple creation points into skills can help a lot).

For two, shopping carts. Shopping carts are love, shopping carts are life. Cars are also a acceptable alternative but require more setup.

For three, the survivor gear (starts being available around 5 tailoring and/or fabrication) has great encumbrance to carrying volume ratios along with excellent armor and good warmth.
