Wizards that do magic and some science that they only half-understand (so they can't advance in it). ;D

The reason elves are the only ones with wood weapons, and that elves can apparently work wood without breaking their own taboos, has always been obvious to me: They use a magic connection with plants to cause the wood to grow into shapes they need. Basically, every tree is a giving tree to the elves.
Lemme guess... Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr by Christopher Paolini?

Gotta go with Kanddak, schools back then didn't teach professions. That's what apprenticeship was for, masters teaching pupils

Masters teach trades. Professions in the historic sense (medicine, law, and theology) were taught in universities.

Great! Less work for Toady!

Additionally there could be occasional stairways or ladders to the sky (or even trees or beanstalks) that could indicate said sky feature, as well as allow Adventure Mode access.

How about beanstalks tethering floating landmasses to the ground. Both unclimbable and indestructible, but you can build rope so that your dwarves can climb slowly up. Or possibly just a climbing SKILL. Miner, Rangers, Masons, Woodcutters, Woodcrafters, Crafters, AND CLIMBERS!

I made a A-Z folder of all the wiki pages and several guides all into one folder. I did it on my mac, veeeeeeery slowly. It was when I first started to play DF. I started to categorize it and stuff. It eventually just became just like a normal wiki. The only difference was that I no longer had to go online to use it (My internet is slow).

DF Modding / Modding out ALL land vermin
« on: December 07, 2009, 08:24:44 pm »
Could someone help me destroy all vermin? I want them modded out of my game. They're such troublemakers. Miasma is enough for me to handle without them. Also, I have no need of cats without vermin, so I can throw them all in a river of magma (my trademark). No vermin, no cats, NO CATSPLOSION!

If we go all out on this then there has to be several classes for each proffesion and taught by somebody who is higher then proficent in it. Different class rooms and maybe put what child takes what class. Also a teaching skill,so the dwarf has a change to teach them to a higher skill level.
Bad Idea! That would make thigs waaaaay too complicated. Unless the child's classes were decided by it's parents skills and titles. Children with Noble parents would grow up to be Nobles of some kind. Peasant parentage would create new Peasants. Kids growing up to be Woodcutters, Metalsmiths, and Alchemists. Of course, non of it happens without one little Dwarven Teacher. Hell, it sounds like a good enough option for the RAW files. That way you can control which race with [LEARNING (I forget the actual name for it, was this right?)] can [TEACH]!

Oh yeah, I'm a genius.

Thanks for making this Mayday (Can I call ya Mike?). The crash seems to be random. It's like your tileset overloads it. Some of the tiles even stopped working  :'( . I'm gonna try some different stuff too. "dFmaCexP1" Is what I'll call my first try, any programs for app examination that you know about? So that I can get info on reaction time and stuff.
I'm just a website designer, sorry if I can't be considered a real techie. ::)
