Your right everybody. That would be CPU expensive. I still think that room values would be a nice thing to be a visual. What do you think this could be applied to?

Values and Noise guide

Noise and other things that are not necessarily visible by the player could be displayed as a color or value much like notes are currently displayed by going to a menu option.

To make myself clear with an example. I want to know what area of my small fortress has little noise, and high value for bedrooms, or just high value for a tomb. I would press the key "Shift-V" (or something) And values of the tiles are displayed flashing between the normal playing visuals and the values.

What do you think world? Good idea?

I really like the idea of having reactions when a thing is used. Ex: Sitting, using door - oooooooh when an item is picked up. Think treasure room for your artifacts with a Giant Cave Spider Guardian that shoots out at the thief when he picks up my perfect Ruby :)

BTW nice mod. Animals so far acted right. My hoards of dogs i bought at startup chased a giant wasp away :)

Does anyone know how to get my interface back to normal and not have all this "+-" crap inconvenience. If toady does it on the upcoming release i will be ok with it.

I find the current biology in DF lacking. Don't you?

Please add anything else you can think of:
Food webs. - animal eats animal etc
This brings into question the interaction of different species in their biomes. Not all animals just eat and get eaten by each other.

Succession. after a fire, small weeds take over, and then more hardier slowly growing plants come etc etc forest if the biome permits.

Population Density - I think this is covered in the raws already.

Competition from other animals, Predation, Parasitism and disease, Drought and other climate extremes. Dwarf-caused/"Intelligent being" distrubances to the environment all contribute to population size.

Environments should be always changing. Populations should adapt to a certain amount of change.

... oooooogh Aquaculture - the raising of aquatic animals for dwarf consumption. tehe?

and simply... evolution! with a lot of this tied in to it all. :)

It's pretty simple to just run a media player while you're playing Dwarf Fortress; as long as the game music is off it won't interfere. I sorta think the hassle of moving/copying MP3's to the raws folder would be a tad... unnecessary.

Your right that would suck. Have you ever played runescape? I havent my brother has. There is more than one song that cycles through and I think something like that would be cool. And since DF should not break copyright then I came to the conclusion of using our own songs that we like.
There are better things to bother toady on though...

So... i have been creeping around the forums for about a month and a half now and finally got motivated enough to get an account. :D

I suggest in the upcoming version a feature in the raws to direct to a more suitable music collection.
Players would either drag music in, or direct to the files. Then it would just shuffle them and play. Much better than the same flamenco guitar over-andover-andover again.

and I know I can turn off the music in the data/init. Its just a suggestion to add to the user-friendlyness of the game. I have no clue how to mod it to do so. ;D
