Geb snarls at the destruction happening around him, but ignores it as there is a philosophical problem to solve, and violence to solve it with. A vision of prophecy has called for a cat and a dwarf, so there will be a cat and a dwarf.

Geb selects a dwarf at random from the spire and removes all influence from their mind, letting them see clearly what has been done to them. A voice speaks in that dwarf's ear:

"The cats control you, your god has lied to you. Capture your cat, keep it alive, and escape while you have the chance. There may never be greater confusion to cover your getaway. Run. Fight if necessary. Go now."

Geb gives a dwarf a chance of escape.

"Yo, Heroes! We need you to slay a great evil! Want some shiny stuff?"

*world explodes*

Sigh....

If the champions have got any initiative, they'd be trying to take out the gods at this point. It's their best chance for a long and happy life.

My dwarf is locked in a room with a girl called wetwork? Ok... I'll be spending the next few minutes giggling childishly.
Stare at my avatar and repeat that sentence to yourself again.

Already done, dear Wetwork. Already done.

edit: actually I quite like the effect you get by putting our avatars side by side.

Either a male dwarf named Tannen or a female named Geb, whichever is spare.

Oh, and I did get partway through making a map, but when it started to look rubbish I lost interest. If anybody cares, the partially completed map is here: http://mrp.ath.cx/stuff/pantheon.png

Feeling the use of divine power, the great lizard extends his senses idly to find out what has been wrought. As he sees the plan of the macaque god, Geb is surprised and greatly pleased. The role of the naga in the world shall never be of violence, but a naga hero could still provide valuable support to such a noble endeavour.

Seeking an experienced veteran guard from the great trade convoys, Geb summons his messenger once more, the angel in the form of a manta appearing before the surprised guard. It speaks:

"The races of the continent of despair are endangered by a monstrous creature. No mortal alone can stand before it, however, the gods have decreed that all races must send a champion to bear the divine powers in unison. Long ago, when the dark dwarves left our holy cavern, some of their number were lost to whales. Their armour was lost, and one set still lies in the gut of one great whale. The upper parts of the set will fit you. Retrieve the armour, wear it, and you will be named champion of the naga. Seek the beast in the Abyss of Desolation."

Geb selects a potential champion.

Mere metal alone would not serve, even armour of a godly alloy, so Geb seeks the armour himself and reshapes it to fit, granting it new power of his own design. Any worthy being who wears it will become able to turn incorporeal at will, able to fly through matter and solidify again safely.

Geb rebuilds the armour so that the wearer can move through solid matter.

along those lines: what happens if, before all that rock melts and magmafies, you seal up the space with constructions?

One way to deal with fluid being created in a space that doesn't have any spare volume left would be to have the liquid teleport out to a random nearby empty tile. Have this represent it leaking through cracks. It has the potential to make this concept even more ludicrously dangerous.

I had been considering trying to make a stylised map. My art skills aren't up to much, but I'll give it a go.

It sounds like they should be able to figure out some way to use blood magic to make hauling rocks around a bit easier then. Bleeding is a fine motivator to do it efficiently.

It's still a bit ambiguous how the water magic works near the surface. Do they have enough power to make water lift clear of the main body? To form shapes of water in air? The question never really came up in the deeps.

Geb once again summons Silrazth, his priestess, so that she may keep the naga informed and spread word of new commands.

"Long ago I warned your people of the dangers of the wild continent. This land is still dangerous, but your skills have grown. I believe you could settle there safely, if you plan carefully and know the threats you may face."

"I recall the visions of the elephants, oh Geb, they are terrible beasts. How are we to protect ourselves from them without water to work with?"

"Build only on the coast, be prepared to flee to the safety of the sea at any time. Stone shall be your first defense on land. Tiles will keep away most plants, and strong walls will keep out animals. Dig deep channels and pools within your walls, they will bring water to you, and may serve as escape routes."

"Surely the pools alone could defend us against the elephants! They are no more than walking whales, our guards could easily keep them away."

"You will face greater threats than beasts. Orcs and the mining Dwarfs you met long ago both live there now. Either race may attack you, I cannot predict their actions. Elves live there too, and I believe them to be an honourable race, but they have faced too many threats to trust anything new. They too may attack you if you appear hostile. The walls will serve to shield you from the weapons carried by these races, devices which throw rods of wood or metal hard enough to kill. Water will not shield you. As well as this, they have powerful and mysterious magics."

"All these dangers... what is there to gain from taking these risks?"

"If they see that you are peaceful, the Elves will be willing to trade, and could be strong allies. Find a way to make contact with them, this is my command."

Geb commands the naga to build fortfied trading posts on the wild coasts.

I'm not trying to erase the effects of the Act from history, and I'm not just removing it entirely either. I'm putting limits on what it applies to.

Dismayed by the sudden changes in the balance of life, Geb sets aside his plans and hurriedly attempts to repair some of the damage. With food appearing everywhere, soon the entire planet will be covered in nothing but life, stacked thousands deep and all still eating. Only the largest and most dangerous of creatures need to be pacified in this manner.

Geb removes the ability to summon food from all plants, all intelligent races, and all other life smaller than the orcs.

Seeing that most life is still left suffering, the great lizard then decides to create a new source of crystal, so that all life will have access to it without disturbing the home of the cats. A new plant species, the Haoma bush, begins to appear along every coast, bearing fruits studded with the edible crystal that everything craves.

Geb creates a bush that grows crystal covered fruit.

Geb swims once more over the homes of the Naga, calling out for all to gather, for this is to be a holy day of celebration. All should come! All should dance! Soon a crowd forms, led in procession by their god with tails flicking in unison. Musicians among them set up a beat, the water resonating with their minds, and trails of bubbles forming flashes of patterns around the dancing multitude.

Soon they reach the very centre of the cavern, the most holy place in The Islands of Discomfort, the music slowly falling quiet. As all becomes silent, Geb speaks.

"The Naga have been fortunate compared to those in the outside world, yet still not all have survived. We need not mourn! Today is a day when all who have died may have a chance to live again."

And as it is spoken, it is done. Geb reaches out with his power to the moon created long ago by Greenleaf and changes it into a divine mechanism. From now on the moon will constantly search, looking through all of history seeking death so that it will remember the minds of every single entity that has ever died.

Geb creates an archive of the souls of the dead.

"I know not what will happen to those who follow other gods. Those that follow me will return to live again, in time. Every month when you feel the tides pull as now, know that the dead are above you, waiting for their chance to be hatched again, and remember this holy day." And again, as spoken, it is done.

Geb begins a system of reincarnation for dead Naga to be rehatched as young Naga.

After the shouts among the crowd died away, the fine booze started to be handed around and nobody was really listening anymore. Geb lay back and listened as the partying resumed.
