General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

Okay, so I have a Sad/Wtf, and this was closer to the top. . .

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I admit I have no solution, I have a brother who seems like he's slowly isolating himself from me and my family too.  I dunno if pursuing him, trying to spend time with him, trying to do nice things for him will help.  Maybe humoring him, like accepting his sudden homosexuality and just getting him to spend time with you and talk.  Maybe apologizing for what you did to him in the past.

Seriously, just telling him you accept his homosexuality (whether it's his choice or not) could make a world of difference.  When people said they accepted the fact that I'm gay... seriously it was life-changing, like a huge weight was taken off my shoulders.

I just found out one of my friends on Steam who I thought I was fairly close to, died in August. And I'd forgotten about him...

I feel really shitty about that.

He was only a teenager, too, like 15 ish? Died in his sleep, apparently.
:( *all the hugs*

I almost wish I had a 3DS now.  Yeah I think the names are silly, but on the plus side, it's been so long since I've played a Pokemon game that picking up the a brand new one might feel like playing the first again.

I'm raging at myself today ._.  I'm such a whining bitch sometimes all the time.  I don't understand why I can't just be happy, balanced, and well-adjusted already and stop whining about my problems.

So I had all sorts of ideas for my game modeling class that I'm starting this week.   Nice thing about this instructor, he posts all the homework and files we need on the school website so I can easily get them at home.  But the part that made me RAEG: I checked our homework for the next five weeks, we have to work on a TF2-esque/Battlefield Heros-esque interior environment.

I do not like either of those games ._.  and their distinctive style art style incorporates a "hand painted" feeling with their textures, often because they're made by hand in photoshop.  Which I'm not good at, not at all D:  Augh.

I was all motivated to do productive things when I was showering today, then the minute I'm out... motivation is gone o_O

Well that was an unproductive two days of selfish brooding ._.  It's like I forgot how to take criticism all of a sudden.  *ahem* Anyway...

Maya is currently messing up my rendering, everything is coming out stretched.  But I did try a new gold texture that's a lot smoother.  It's not... perfect.  I think we both know what it should look like, Skyrunner, but I suspect I'd have to use digital painting skills I don't have to actually make it good. I'll post what I have, but once again, the rendering is coming out messed up. da fuq it's not stretched now that it's on imgur o_o  But it's... stretched when I look at it on my computer?

edit: let me say, no you didn't offend me, Skyrunner, I guess I just have a very thin skin when it comes to my modeling and texturing.  I'm not going to stay that way though.  heap on the criticism, i say!

'Tis done, Skyrunner!

Decided to texture it as requested, although my texturing skills still need some more work.  I had to rely on a free texture site my school uses, and it occurs to me now that if gold was used in gears like those, it wouldn't look quite like this.  But still.  It was fun to make :D

Two simultaneous leg cramps about 30 minutes ago, and the arms of my chair broke. Could barely crawl out of the chair and onto the floor so I could lay straight. Even elevating my head was apparently too much strain and it starts back up. After a few minutes on my back, stiff as a board, I managed to limp to the kitchen and eat a banana. I hope it helps keep it from recurring. God, both my legs from the tips of my toes to the hip are sore. Had to take off the back of my chair to get rid of the broken arms.
edit: hm I think my post got eaten o_O  Wanted to say, yikes and I've had my share of leg cramps before and they do suck.

I asked, and Bay12 delivered  :o  I'll get started today.  That bevel gear looks delicious.

Hey I'm trying to put together an online game which will eventually have a simcity-style thing going (i'm working on the php & database side of things), I could definitely use a few basic buildings in isometric projection.

Sure, I'd love to help.  I need some more information though on how this is going to work.  Do you need exports of the models themselves, or are you looking for renders/screenshots with the camera set at a 45-degree angle?  Also, any pictures/concept art of what you're looking for helps quite a bit.  That way I can be 100% sure that I'm making it exactly the way you want it :)

A catapult
Catapults can be done in a lot of different ways, could you post some pictures of what you want your catapult to look like? :)

I know it's to late, but how about a Mars Base/ ship
I'll gladly take on more requests if I'm quick enough.  Could you post some pictures of what you have in mind?

A modular spacecraft or weapon using 3D-layers to swap between them (sorta like your own variation of Borderlands weapon generation).

You can also attempt a 3D-interpretation of 2D images like the ships of FTL or something.
I think I'll go with the ships from FTL.  The modular spacecraft/weapon would take a lot of planning, any modular work takes a lot of planning and trial and error.  But.  Ahhh.  I hate to refuse.  I'll keep the modular spaceship/weapon in mind as I work on the other stuff.

I'm shamelessly drawing attention to a thread I posted in the creative forum.  I need some practice, and I know I'll have trouble motivating/inspiring myself over the next few days.  Any ideas are appreciated (well not exactly all ideas, parameters are posted in the thread).

edit 4.24.2013:  Posted the top hat!  Also I'm more comfortable with larger environments now (i.e. could do a city street, or a hallway plus rooms with decorations).

School starts on monday for me, and I need some ideas to help polish up my 3D modeling before school begins again.  So, my goal is to model out a total five ideas, the first five that end up posted in this thread.  I do have a few restrictions:

1. No characters/organic models, at the moment I easily take a month to do a passable character of the organic persuasion.

2. I personally prefer inanimate objects like weapons, vehicles, and medium-ish environments.

3. If your idea is based on something else, by all means post the related picture.  More information and details means more fun for modeling :)

Wow it seems I never posted a time capsule post.  Intriguing, but sad.  Ah well, I remember what was going on a year ago.  It was a turbulent time I suppose.
