DF General Discussion / Re: FotF: Dwarf Fortress 40d19
« on: March 09, 2010, 01:32:55 am »
2DASYNC is blazing fast for me, the other 2D options less so (but still pretty quick).  Two problems noticed so far:

(1) Dwarf graphics persist on the screen when going to other menus or hitting ESC

(2) Lever linkages don't jump to the correct door/floodgate/whatever when you scroll through the list!  This makes it extremely frustrating to use them.  If the <door/floodgate/whatever> is already visible on the screen, the X will show in the correct spot, but most of the time I just pick blindly.  It then recenters after I select what to attach to.

Turns out there was a nasty bug in d18 that would drastically slow things down - especially in 2D, but overall, really -  made even worse by a nastily inefficient windows STL implementation on that point. Yea, verily, it cut toady's framerates from 100 to 18. Whoops.  ???

The good news is, I've fixed it; the fix is in d18-head now. Sorry, windows users, but apparently quirks make partial mode faster despite the bug, if you can use it. Try PARTIAL:20 or something like that if you can't.

This may be what I was experiencing - or it may have been addressed earlier in the thread (apologies if it was) - but I have d18 running right now and it works fine in windowed mode.  As soon as I maximize the window, however, it slows to a ridiculous crawl (with 7 dwarves, it goes from ~150 FPS to 3).

Windows 7, Radeon 4870 with newest drivers.

DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress: List of Remaining Items

The one thing I really want, aside from all the goodies we're getting already, is to be able to remove certain dwarves from the "idle" display.  It drives me crazy to have dwarves showing as idle, even though there are some that I don't mind chattering away - probably because I tend to trap a lot of dwarves accidentally, and it makes it hard to notice.

Anyone know if we're going to get that someday?

DF Modding / Re: Stonesense - The isometric visualizer, official thread

OK, maybe someone has talked about this in here, but the thread is getting really long.

Anyway, I can never get past the opening screen in Stonesense.  I mash "F9" over and over again and nothing happens.  I even tried making an AutoHotKey script to send F9, and it seemed to do nothing.  Anyone have any idea why?

DF General Discussion / Re: [Quickfort] Version 1.08 released

Just wanted to say that I just tried Quickfort out, and it is amazing.  So simple to use but so powerful - you did a really great job.  It definitely makes laying out the fort, building constructions, etc so much less painful!

So, thank you very much for a great utility.  ;D

DF Bug Reports / Re: [40d16] Human caravan causing crash

It worked! I screwed up your instructions quite nicely but I found an old copy of DF I had been running with the orc mod, and just ported the save over. It worked perfectly!

Thanks!

Well, at least it wasn't just me.

Does anyone have an idea as to whether it's potentially fixable or not? I was just getting to the fun part. :(

DF Bug Reports / [40d16] Human caravan causing crash
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:32:19 pm »
Lately I have been having problems with my fortress repeatedly crashing under Windows 7. After taking a look at the game log, it seems to be crashing every time the human caravan arrives (this would be the first contact with humans for the fortress).

Example:

*** STARTING NEW GAME ***
** Loading Fortress **
You have struck Tetrahedrite!
A human caravan from Alpethanthath has arrived.
*crash*

Here is my DF directory with save; the only mod I can remember adding is the orc mod (although they have not even been encountered yet).  The caravan comes about 30 seconds or so after the save.

The only other wonky thing is that I have been playing the same fortress on two different computers using Dropbox. I had a crash with my previous fortress stored in Dropbox as well, although I hadn't saved in so long that I essentially gave up and never tried to figure out the cause.
