heres what i put
mount D: C:\Dosgames\Darklands -t cdrom label Darklands
D:
Install

thats the lines i entered, and when it asks where to install from i select D:, then when i try to intall TO i put C:\Dosgames\
before the mount D: part, input:
mount C: C:\Dosgames\

And later enter something like C:\Darklands as the installation path.

1622
When i try to install it tells me the install path is invalid, im installing to C:\Dosgames\ Any help?
Did you mount some directory as C:?

1623
When mounting the directory with the installation files, do it like this:

mount D: <full directory path to installation files> -t cdrom label Darklands (label part possibly optional)

Well, there's the Oddworld: Abe's platformers, where your otherwise wimpy character can take over enemies on screen, but also takes some time to do so.

I think I recall Requiem: Avenging Angel featuring a power of possession.

Technically, just about all video games are RPGs, if you define RPG as a game where you play the role of someone else.
Which is why no sane gamer uses that definition. Much like nobody uses "games with action" to describe Action games or "games where you have an adventure" to describe Adventure games. The point of genres is to distinguish game types, not pointlessly mash them together due to naming vagueness.

Everyone has the same voice, so the voices dont change when you ask the beggars for rumors.
You mean like this? Or was that supposed be read as irony?

There's no real reason why they can't get members of their development team to do small snippets of voices or why they can't ask family, etc. It's not like we need A-list voice actors for every peasant and child in the world.

If there are 100 members in the development team and even half of them just said things like, "Hi!" or "How are you doing?", it would already be a vast improvement over what they currently have.
Not every person's voice is appropriate for a medieval setting (or other pre-modern settings). And that's not considering how terrible they might be at actual voice-acting (as in speaking in the appropriate tone and accent).

However, one professional voice-actor could deliver different sounding performances for different NPCs. There's also the option of using minor voice mutators for various NPCs to make the use of the same voice actor slightly less obvious. Unfortunately, Bethesda has tried neither option, and continues to use the same voice-actors who sound the same in FO3 as they did in Oblivion.

Who cares about lore?
So much for your "immersion" argument, then.

NO ACTION IN RPGS
NO PLAYER SKILL INVOLVED
ROLL THE DICE, DON'T HAVE FUN
HAVING FUN?  GTFO, THIS IS AN RPG, FUN IS NOT ALLOWED
Because obviously that's no fun. "If it's not fun for me it's fun for no one!"  ::)

Wonder Project J I believe is the name of it. Yes it is fan translated, which means its GOOD translated, and is an incredible game of unexpected depth. Every problem after the first has multiple ways of solving it, IIRC.
That's the one. Thanks. Will have to try it again. First time I tried it I got put off, most likely by the gamepad-cursor controls (that or the usual console game overly basic, obligatory tutorial).

How does the Cube Landings work?  Does it really render you immune to attacks?  If so, aren't they safer than apartments?  (although I guess you can't leave your stuff in there).
To my knowledge, it only works while the game considers you a newbie. Afterwards, it doesn't do anything and you need an apartment to stay safe. And even that isn't 100% safe since people can break in.

There was this C64 game called Little Computer People that was basically something of a Sims predecessor. I recall being able to emulate this using a version from the Underdogs.

I also recall once seeing something of the sort at the Underdogs. But I can't recall what it was called. Something that required an emulator and possibly a fan translation, probably for the SNES or Genesis. Basically had you guiding some pinochio-like artificial humanoid in Creatures-like perspective via awkward cursor controls (awkward because you were supposed to guide the cursor using a gamepad).

Then there's Black & White, where you have your creature to teach and care about. Basically the best thing about the game. The strategic portion of the game is slow, dull, boring and heavily scripted.

Please forgive me if this is not in line with the current line of discussion, I haven't read the thread at all.

So.

WOOT!

I'm itching to try this. I love and have played both Morrowind and Oblivion (the latter on both a borrowed PC and game) although the dialog in Oblivion was... Yeah. But still, it was an enjoyable, expansive game that I found a lot of fun, as was Morrowind. So I really want to try this. Any tips before I bother downloading it?

Yes, read this thread to learn how to get it working.  Bethesda basically just released it as is so if you try to play it on a modern system it won't work.

Well balls. That'll put me off for a while. I'm so damn lazy.
Or you can just see rickvoid's how-to here.

Oblivion was not a bad game.
Maybe, but it's terrible as an RPG (which it was advertised as). Typical console sandbox game design as well - lots of repetition, everything can always be beaten. Also, moronic balancing - if it's unbalanced, rather than tweak it to balance it, remove it! And that's essentially how we were left with no staff combat, no spears, no thrown weapons, no crossbows, boring magic and overdone level-scaling. What we're left with is a freeroaming Dark Messiah of Might & Magic with worse combat.

Morrowind was just so good it made everything else look bad.
Funny. I liked Morrowind so much that Daggerfall looked like the second coming to me at the time (played Daggerfall around the time Morrowind was released and prefered it immensely). I know quite a few other RPGs that make Oblivion look terrible.

If having the cities walled off would keep the game from crashing, thus the need to get rid of levitation, then thats fine.
A better idea would be to use a game engine that doesn't suck and crash because you looked at it the wrong way.

And yes oblivion had radiant AI, they just left too many loop holes open.
No, it did not. Not in any form as advertised in trailers before it was released. Those trailers were completely scripted and pre-rendered, Peter Molyneux level lies. Otherwise, modders would have re-enabled it, if only for shits and giggles to watch what the AI does. But it's not there. And if they actually had it anywhere, it would've been fixed for Fallout 3, but it's not there either. Radiant AI is grand scale bullshit.

Ultima 7 AI still puts the AI in Oblivion and Fallout 3 to shame.

Um, no, Windows 98 definitely does not have DOSBox built into it. It doesn't even have a full-fledged DOS, just some lame command line approximation. Which is good for most DOS games, but good luck running something like Battle Isle 2 on it...
Actually, I'm pretty sure Windows 98 still had a pure DOS mode. Or at least good enough DOS support to run things without an emulator.

The release Bethesda gave requires the DFCD folder contents to be on a CD labeled Daggerfall when it's run. This means you'll have to burn it onto a CD and label it appropriately. Or, assuming Daemon Tools (or Alcohol?) is available for 98, create an ISO image with that label using the contents found in the DFCD folder and mount it in DT before running the game.
Beyond that, to my knowledge, getting it to work should be pretty standard. If I'm wrong, say what kind of error/problem you're getting and when, hippoman.

Ahh, thx. Armed with this info, I'll certainly find it now. Oh wait, I ain't retorrenting the Morrowind itself. Fuck.
You can also torrent selectively using uTorrent (you mark/unmark which files to torrent when selecting where to put them).

comeon! someone must know! HOW DO I GET IT TO WORK ON A REAL DOSBOX?
What do you mean by "real" DOSBox?

To get it running on DOSBox 0.73, see rickvoid's how-to here.
