Mafia / Re: FBYOR 6 aka Personalized Invitation Mafia (7 / 9+)

How could I say no to a personal request?

She won't say yes, but you should invite Tiruin as well, for old time's sake.

Knightwing has never knowingly not been last, I have faith my boy can win this

Submitted my turn early for once  8)

Let's say I meant those hard egg shells!

291
Speciate Lungenose Dropseal:
A. Improve social cohesion for closer pods (perhaps a clan system)
B. Improve crushing jaw power for opening up hexturtle egg shells and domes, and send to the Bir Shallows

Speciate the Fatty Spireater - [SS]
A. Sequential hermaphroditism, to maximise egg laying by dynamically rebalancing the sex distribution (which may be skewed in any given moment by the heavy predation)
B. Massive keratin spikes from all parts, leaving it looking like a living sea-mine, skewering most feeding attempts

Speciate the Robustjaw Megalocod:
A. Give micromuscles and perfectly smooth out the scales, so that they can made to suddenly align, giving a mirror-like effect, either to dazzle when near the water surface, or to make the Megalocod more invisible in darker waters -> move to Eke Shallows
B. Evolve a new internal stomach organ, a rotting chamber, where poisonous creatures can be swallowed whole and broken down safely before moving on to the rest of its digestive system.

Speciate the Furryfin Spireater
A- Increase size even further (to continue out-eating other creatures)
B - Evolve to exude a chemical to encourage the chemoreceptive Domedwellers to build domes on its back, giving it a level of protection -> move to Bir Shallows

292
Lungenose Dropseal (bid to become apex...)

[SS] - Improve eyesight, for spotting prey and avoiding predation
increase intelligence x3:
 - Categorisation / pattern matching
 - Social grouping/communication
 - Pack tactics/ambush

293
That was my strat with the Yunus in the last game. But there are predators who can go on land in this game so I'm not sure how effective your seal plan will be. My predatory Lungenose Dropseals have lungs and are already called seals...

Mafia / Re: Games Threshold Discussion and List

I'll look to run something in December after my game is launched, maybe during the two week I'm taking off on holiday. Just been swamped this last half year.

295
[SS]  Speciate Pear-ly Megalocod
1. Calcify cartillage in jaws to give stronger bite able to eat things whole without tasting
2. Intensify acidity of digestive system for breaking down hard stuff turtle shells, bones, domes, etc.

Speciate Spireater Elecod
1. Cover in keratin fur to keep warm in ice age
2. Layer on blubber for warmth and calory storage and move to Uch Shallows

Speciate Remora pancod
1. Evolve ovipostor for injecting eggs into prey (or under shells, say) and send to Bir Shallows
2. Evolve tendrils to allow better latch onto prey

Speciate Lungenose Dropseal
1. Improve brainpower, focusing on stalking behaviour, for snatching eggs and taking young
2. Evolve razor pincer on the hooked claws, primarily for snipping back sails, legs, flippers etc...

296
Got bogged down with a load of other stuff but let's see if we can't get to apex:

Mutate Deepsea Spiralcod
1. Improve smelling, increase nostril sensitivity to smell futher
2. Improve brain size, focusing on scent discernment/detection
3. Strengthen musculature to speed up the spiral motion through the ocean
Speciate and [SS]
4A: Improve brain, focusing on gyroscopic senses for more graceful corkscrewing
4B: Unvestigialise the eyes and send to Sunlight Zone

297
It's not BlackSpice, so he's welcome to it. A

Is merging possible here?
Probably not easily. TricMagic's whole gimmick in the last game was cross-speciating spore stuff. He eventually merged a bunch of them into a sort of hivemind, somehow. Magma allowed other weird creative stuff like:

- a creature that was so big it became a biome
- environment-destroying civilisation
- domestication

In this game I'm focusing on one overall species, with selection determining which survive and become the primary.
Parasites will never be Apex, but you can't really get rid of them
Probably easier than trying to juggle half a dozen different branches.

You're right that I've got my sights on the Apex position, and rolling the dice on which of the two might have chance. But the key thing is, even if both fail, they have a good chance of making a rival species extinct. My thinking in displacement is that if I try and displace into areas where my species is more populous than the least-populous rival, then I have a good chance of displacing them (though it's not certain as creatures are adapted to the other creatures in their area). I don't think all 8 dice rolls will go my way, but spreading the risk around seems like a safer approach. Spreading the species around makes it more likely that an evolutionary branch will survive, in case a big shock makes them non-viable in any given biome.

In the last game, Knightwing also focused on one mega species, while I speciated loads and Tric speciated and then merged his creatures.
