Definitely having shorter days in the next iteration (especially from D2 on).

Comedic highlights of the game that should be treasured for generations. Never change, Fal.
There were a lot of funny moments. One of my favourites was this moment in the Secret Basement:

This is MY secret basement and I don't appreciate you two barging in on it uninvited >:(

If that were the case, instead of time being the deciding factor on our powerset, it'd have been better to have the number of living Players be it instead.
Yes this is a nice way of implementing the restriction. I'll keep it in mind in future setups. While I think a lot of people were happy with their roles, I'm sorry yours wasn't as sparkling as it could have been. As my first BYOR there was bound to be a little unevenness, and I appreciate you giving your reflections on what didn't work so well.

Maybe add a 'warp' mechanic, where a submission can link two spheres that are separated by precisely one gap, but only once?
I'm considering having Hats be warpable onto one other sphere (the downside being you have to spend a sphere on Hats which only guarantees an item-based role).

Other changes:

- Rename Dud to Niche, to better signal that you won't get a wholly useless power out of it
- Shuffle things around a bit
- Overpowered will be split into something like: Mass-Effecting (multi-targeting or game-wide effects), Accelerated (multiple actions), Diverse (lots of possible actions)
- I'm thinking modifiers like Super, Meta, the various descendants of Overpowered, Self-Confirmation, and Daytime be dark blue, limited to two per person (so no one rocks up with a role that is all modifiers and no actual substantive power) -- don't want to make the grid too complex to fill out though, so maybe not

Oh yeah, two criticisms:
— Items were cool but made for a very mechanics-focused daygame
— Trading was powerful but didn't really feel like "my" power since it had nothing to do with the rest of my role and didn't particularly advantage me (besides giving me extra starting items... WHICH CM STOLE ALL OF >:()
Yes, I agree the item shuffling probably contributed to a large part of the post inflation in this game (2nd longest of all time). And yes, in future games, trading will be included as a core mechanic rather than being tied to one player.

Overall I feel like the spheres did what I wanted in bringing the choice element from Choose Your Own Mafia, but retaining a finer level of control over the setup for a more cohesive experience. Some proposed grid changes:

- Overpowered will be split up into a few sub-components
- Something to do with Items will be a sphere of its own
- Suspicious will be revamped to make it, well, more suspicious

nqt, my blowback.

How much did that change the game?  Did it like warp peoples' abilities and stuff?  Did I 'cause' Toony to have abilities that appear to him designed to help Maf more than Town?

If so, what else did my sphere choice cause?
The blowback element to your power was in giving dangerous abilities at the start of the game. The six-shooter could have easily been fired (accidentally even with Magpie!) on town, while the Clementine was a secret weapon for scum to win LYLO. You didn't warp anyone's core role. Toony figured someone had blowback because he started with the Black Spot which could have killed him N1. There were a few ways those items could have duplicated as well, multiplying problems.

It's a shame Sofanthiel died before the night, because the cascade would have made planning a lot harder for everyone.

Here is hoping that Fallacy gets a few more games as Town. He deserves it.
I cosign this sentiment!

At last the electors come to a decision. There was the Elephant Parade, trumpeting in unison about the threat to chamber of the Doge. It was joined by the giant pile of blue spheres, Toony, trying to ignore all the extraneous, along with the quiet but effective Crystalizedmire, both focusing their gems on the only problem: removing the false electors. Having been the only one to have a good nights sleep, the conjuror TricMagic places his vote with a flourish of energy unbefitting of the weary chamber, protesting all the time that it would do no good. Finally, the wily pirate Euchrejack relents and reluctantly votes.

There are dissenters, of course. First of which was their target for exile: FallacyofUrist. A sentient manifestation of falsities was never going to have an easy time getting others to trust it, and right enough it had struggled after its compatriots had all been exiled. Then there was the hyperactive Imp, surrounded by trinkets, hopping from desk to desk in frenzied speculation, hoping to use all available time to cover all available angles. Eyeing up the exit, self-assured of a victory either way, NJW2000 deigns not to vote.

The orderlies drag Fallacy kicking and screaming from the chamber. At last, after three long days, second longest in the hallowed halls long history, a new order of business is moved onto... who would be the next Doge.

"What about that fine fruit merchant?" one elector suggests.

"Wasn't he dead?" another questions.

"Aren't all the best leaders?"

And so the arguing begins up once again, ad eternum.

FallacyofUrist is eliminated. FallacyofUrist was mafia.

The game ends in a town victory. Sofanthiel, Webadict, Maximum Spin, and FallacyofUrist lose, everyone else wins.

Spoiler: Intitial Roles (click to show/hide)

Night actions can be seen in the pins on the spoilspec channel, now open. N1 Quarque kills himself with fruit at the behest of the mafia. N2 mafia hide, though as far as I can tell, NJW2000 would not have been saved from a kill once the fruit-doctor had died, as there were not redirects, blockers etc. Turned into a rough game for scum after the D1 double elimination. Thanks everyone for playing, and congrats to town on their excellent (if somewhat lengthy) decision making.

There is a parable about an ant who saw a friend in a distance, just around the bend of a bottle, its image twisted through the glass. If hurried on, eager to catch up. Of course, the other ant, on the other side of the bottle, could just about make out its counterpart, and it too hurried as fast as it could. And so the ants circled the bottle until they died of exhaustion.

nqt, based on the wording of the one public knowledge win condition, what would stop two mafia teams from winning together, along with any SK?

You are Mafia. You win when town can no longer win.
See:
To be even clearer: if only two mafia teams are left, then they could simultaneously destroy one another, allowing town to win and so, in the case of multiple mafia teams, mafia team A cannot win until mafia team B and mafia team C and mafia team D are eliminated.
Thinks about it more.
Quite.

nqt, if we faced a second Mafia team, would each team have a distinct name?  What might the flip of a member of each mafia team look like, alignment-wise and wincon-wise, if there were two teams?
Multiple scum teams have distinct internal names so I can tell the chats apart but that would not be publicly facing information to be revealed on death. You have seen mafia flip: it would look like what you have already seen.

To be even clearer: if only two mafia teams are left, then they could simultaneously destroy one another, allowing town to win and so, in the case of multiple mafia teams, mafia team A cannot win until mafia team B and mafia team C and mafia team D are eliminated.

Also, is Maximum Spin's wincon identical to webadicts?  I am confused by not seeing a wincon on Maximum Spin's roleflip.
Yes. There is only one mafia win condition and it's public knowledge, in the OP.

Some judgements begin to be made. Who was what where why and how. But still most electors remain doggedly undecided, committed only to prelonging the proceedings and deferring the moment of decision.

notquitethere: Is it possible for a role flip to have missing or altered information?
Yes and no. I won't lie in a flip but it is possible for abilities to trigger on death and for abilities to change roles, leading to a role-in-death having a different suite of abilities than they had in life.

Cause I wouldn't be surprised if revival falls under necromancy. Does it NQT?
It depends what you mean by 'revival'. If someone actually dies and then is resurrected that would be a (necromancy) sphere ability.
