DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Magma and Lignite
« on: November 12, 2009, 08:10:10 am »
You still need it for steel, but you could dig to get all the coal which isn't part of the walls later on. I've had the problem with water before- Digging a tunnel for a well and for irrigation, walk into several metal veins, try to clear them out and end up losing the fortress due to lack of food booze. Not good.

I'm assuming you dug through a lignite vein on while making a magma tunnel... I was about to say it's wasteful, then realised you have magma, and don't need fuel. /facepalm

Beaten to it by Hungry, but yeah. It should burn out after awhile though, in the mean time even if you clear the magma the lignite will still be dangerous.

^I've not played with lignite+magma, but that's what I've gathered from here :P

Fun times when you're digging a central stairway, or any other vertical shaft... Every other second "You have struck a useless rock type!"

It's not. He meant reclaiming as in unforbidding an item, which is referred to as reclaiming in the game.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Does a queen earn me sieges?
« on: November 11, 2009, 08:15:26 am »
I only understand some of what you're trying to say, in all honesty, so I'll explain. You struck adamantine, the queen came, there's no disguised king, it always says king. You can't get a "normal" ruler anymore, there's no unlocking of any kind to be done (If you didn't have the adamantine king there'd be a few requirements).

However, it does say Wealth OR Population, so I had hoped triggering the queen from adamantine (which is also usually a pop. related thing) might also circumvent the usual route.
.
What? You want a ruler, you have a ruler, how has that NOT given you a ruler without the normal requirements? (Unless you mean for seiges, in which case your post makes no sense to me  :-\)

You need 80 for seiges but you can get ambushes at any population. (I think you can remove the babysnatcher tag to change that)

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: I'm feeling bettah!

If the beds you've left unassigned (in the water therapy room) are underwater, he'll refuse to rest. If they aren't, no idea, but I've never heard of dwarves carrying on without healing, regardless of toughness. AFAIK (I've seen superdwarvenly tough dwarves rest for "mere" broken limbs) they just heal much quicker, and that's it? As for your goblins who go insane due to lack of beds... I think that's because they're dying from lack of sleep.

I think I'd have to stop that guy doing stuff, the thought of working with a broken arm makes me feel kinda "off".

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Dumping sand?
« on: November 11, 2009, 07:56:19 am »
If you can get a sandy glass furnace it's ideal. They collect it in the zone and leave it there if you don't have a stockpile, so it's a step or two away from the furnace. There's no need to do anything more than that, -if- you can do that.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: A masterwork of has been lost.

I just checked the quality page, it's under the masterpiece heading.

"The loss, destruction or theft of such a masterpiece will cause the dwarf that created it a very unhappy thought"

The init can change priority. Task manager lets you change the core affinity on Df.

72
Yeah that's all well and good in the next version, but for now a pond would work.

73
You could make a pond and dump him in it.

Save it until flying enemies realise that they're capable of flight :P It'll be much more interesting.

Actually they almost certainly were beating people over the head with clothing. It's a pretty common bug that wrestlers rip clothes off of people, then don't drop them when assigned a weapon. If I'd realised they were picking up the weapons but not using them I'd have known straight off :P
