During championship games they flood the arena with magma and give the players bauxite skates. Survivingteam gets fed to the eagles.

fixed

Anyone who manages to kill the eagles gets his own room, made out of solid gold with crystal glass statues and so forth.

Actually, since animals won't harm elves, he'll probably just drown.

Well, that still solves the problem, doesn't it?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Interesting Dwarf Names

In my current world, out of 34,172 historical figures, there were 10 Urists. One of them was a revenge goddess, though.

An appropriate name, considering it means "dagger". (I once named an adventurer Urist Daggerdagger. Great times.)

I've only ever gotten one per fort max before the framerate dropped too far to be useful. I've had two really successful forts that merited this attention.

1) A titan that ran in, beat up a few people nonfatally, wandered out again, hit a cage trap, and (somehow) died. That taught me to build cage traps in rows, rather than randomly interspersed between weapon traps. The fortress in question underwent catsplosion and became too slow and jerky to really do anything with.

2) Another titan, in a different fort, just blundered straight into the cage traps. Yes, that's what they're there for, but it has a name so I can't tame it. [Another lesson learned]. Now I just hope I can keep the kitten population under control until a hydra or something shows up.

For a slightly less film-y moment, the Arena in Jak III. If any of them hesitate, they've defiled the purity of the arena. Have them killed.

In my current fort, I have a masterwork crystal glass statue. It's worth 3000 dwarfbucks.

Just putting that out there.

I actually modded in Frogmen as a civ. I must've done something wrong, because when I genned a world, they destroyed the Orc, Goblin, and Elven civs.

Pretty intense frogs.

You sure they're not Battletoads?

what I'm doing in my current main fort is dropping gobbo's off a bridge 20+ levels up onto a circular target and scoring points for how far the body parts travel from the point of impact. Every time a body part beats the previous best distance, I add another ring of walls (in a different metal) to the target. My best currently is 12 squares distance between the point of impact and where the limb landed.

That does sound better than my idea.
[Makes preparation to do this]

I thought about this a while ago... and the whole fact that dwarves have a 12 month calender raises a lot of questions.

Do they have astronomers to study the movement of the stars and planets? and I've never seen a dwarven telescope. (not sure if the telescope is pre-1400 but I know the mayans had very accurate calenders and star charts)

I'm now bubbling with mod ideas...

I imagined that was the Philosopher's job.

No, pulling levers is the philosopher's job. Astrology/astronomy is simply his/her hobby, much like making infeasible mandates is the hobby of every other noble.

...Antigravity traps.

ANTIGRAVITY TRAPS.

I think my brain just broke.

Several different things.

Giant cave swallows.
Batmen in chasm games.
Dark gnomes.
Getting distracted.
Forgetting what that lever does, then pulling it anyway.
Nobles impacting on the immigration rate when sent to join Armok for a badly planned mandate or to free up space for the new noble.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Wild Camels have settled inside my fortress
« on: November 10, 2009, 05:24:42 am »
my best megaproject was a giant dam in a badlands map with giant natural valleys that had a brook at the top.

camels were forever getting into the inside of the dam, and around all the tight corners my hunters could not crossbow them, and would get slaughtered.

once a camel has tasted blood, it becomes a terrifying force of nature. i had to dispatch my champions to deal with several camels that got inside and managed to kill a hunter who tried to bash them with a crossbow.

also, in the ages ago fort where i caught a titan and tried to use it to kill off my tame animal population, the camels killed it.

so yeah, camels. the desert version of elephants, sortof.

This was about to scare me, since I'm Australian and we have one of the largest camel populations in the world.

Then I remembered that all I need to do is hide in a tree and chuck drop bears at them.
