Other Games / UplinkOS - a Mod to End all Mods for Uplink
« on: October 17, 2016, 08:08:59 pm »
Hi guys.  Usually I don't start threads myself, but I couldn't find anything about this and thus I thought I'd drop it on you all.  UplinkOS is a total graphical mod for the cult classic Uplink by Introversion Software.  It was just released, and already updates are being pushed forward to fix bugs and crashes.  So far it is darn good, and although it lacks the added content of the Onlink Mod, it totally revolutionizes the graphics, making it utterly playable.

You guys can find it here on MOD DB: http://www.moddb.com/mods/uplink-os

Please note that UplinkOS is still in BETA, and thus there are still -some- issues with it.  I'm not quite sure how far the mod author wishes to take it, but I drool every time I play it anyway.  Also you guys will either need the Steam or GOG version of Uplink in order to use the mod.  It doesn't support the original Introversion Software release.

Okay, my work here is done.  You guys enjoy your hacking!

Creative Projects / Master of Dungeons - A Dungeon Keeper-like Story!
« on: January 23, 2015, 04:52:22 am »
Hey guys its been quite a while since I actually posted something here on the DF forums; but I decided its about time to share a little something with everyone.

For the last couple of months I have been writing and posting an original story on a website called RoyalRoadL, which has turned into a free hosting site for amateur writers and fanfic authors.

Instead of explaining more or going into a lot of detail, I'm just going to provide an easy link to my fictions summary page.

Feel free to leave messages, comments, or anything else! Let me know if you like the story!

Other Games / Pandora: First Contact - Modern Alpha Centauri
« on: July 27, 2013, 07:41:27 pm »
I'm a big fan of city building TBS games, and have been since I was a little kid.  Sadly, it is something that has been shelved by the mainstream game companies and publishers due to its often complex interpretations and non-casual-gaming appeal.  Well, I'm now glad to say, I have a game I'm totally drooling over.

Pandora: First Contact draws a lot of inspiration from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, including the ability to customize units in the 'Workshop' screen, a massive tech tree (over 120 of them), six different factions, loads of hostile alien flora and fauna, and even the mystery of an extinct alien race to unravel.  Procedurally generated maps and a whole load of options.  To me, it looks like the best Christmas present I never got as a kid.   8)

The games estimated date of release is only in a couple of months (September/Fall 2013), and the small German company that's been working on it a while recently showed it off at Historicon, and even gave us the first real look into it with nice youtube videos.

This next bit is a fairly large page quote from the Matrix Games Forum.  It has more information and youtube video links in it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I hope you guys get as excited about it as I am.

I was browsing through the Kickstarter site and stumbled upon this.  The devs are a 10 man team from the US, Poland, and Germany that work for a living and have started working on this game as a weekend hobby they want to take more full time.   They claim the old classics like Master of Orion (1 and 2) and other 4X games as their inspiration, and want to bring back the classic old-style feel without giving into the overly modern but shallow systems of today.

They seek only enough to pay for the time and effort it takes to complete the game, and anything over their minimum goal of $50,000 will be given for added content and a more polished experience.   M.O.R.E (Military. Organization. Research. Economy.) will feature 20! fully created and fleshed out races, with each race having their own specially designed GUI, with their own variable tactics and the like.  The game will be fully 3D, as well.

If anyone is interested, check it out here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1447560584/more-oldschool-turn-based-4x-space-strategy-game?ref=category

I'm personally excited for M.O.R.E., after all the failed modern sci-fi 4X games that have come out recently.  I hope I'm not the only one.  8)

Other Games / Fable 3 (PC or XBox)
« on: October 26, 2010, 02:04:37 am »
Alright. I have yet to find a cohesive topic on this upcoming (or newly released, in case of the XBox 360) game.  I'm a PC fan myself, so I'm a little let-down about the PC version being delayed, but I hope that they release it soon, otherwise I'm going to be very very very mad  >:( >:( >:( Sense I do not own a console, much less a 360.  Bummer.

Anyway, if anyone has anything cohesive to say; or any newly-released information or reviews for the 360 version, feel free to post them here and give your opinions! I want to knowwwwww! Especially sense I was a big fan of Fable: The Lost Chapters, but didn't get much chance to play Fable 2, so I really cannot judge too much.

Other Games / Black Prophecy: Closed Beta
« on: September 22, 2010, 11:03:41 pm »
Alright guys, here's the deal.  I applied for the closed beta of the upcoming Black Prophecy MMO, and finally got invited to it after a number of months (registered in March).  I haven't been able to find another thread on this game, so I'm going to give a basic overview of the game itself and my experiences in the closed beta, thus far.  Please bare with me, I've only played it a few hours the past two days, and haven't had time to do much more than the first few missions.

First off, the official website link: http://www.blackprophecy.com/.

Quote
Black Prophecy is a fast-paced 3D real-time combat space MMO with state of the art visuals. Both the Player-versus-Players combat and an exciting storyline in a rich universe are important aspects of the game. - Taken from the Official Website.

For anyone who has played any number of space exploration, space sims, the X series (i.e. X3: Terrian Conflict), EVE Online, or any number of space combat sims like the FreeSpace, you probably get what the game itself is about.

The list of features:

Modular ship design
Player ships are not sold as whole, but instead consist of modules like cockpits, wings, engines etc. All these modules are available in different shapes and sizes, which allows the players to customize their ships.

Item modification system
In addition to the modular ship design, players can also further customize their ships by adding modifications to their ship's modules and weapons.

Modular clan station system
Player clans can build clan stations that are expandable through a module system. Different modules add different functionalities to the station.

Resource system
Clans can fight each other to conquer resource stations.

Award and medal system
Similar to an achievement system, players can earn medals and awards for performing specific tasks.

Tactics system
Players can learn and execute breakneck flight maneuvers.

Okay, my browser keeps messing up.  I will edit this post here shortly.

DF Modding / (REQ) Multi-Tree Mod
« on: October 29, 2009, 01:15:45 am »
Hey guys, I'm fairly new to both Dwarf Fortress and modding in general, and have no skills or knowledge of any of the common program langauges or anything.  But I do have a question, or better yet, a suggestion for a rather simple mod.  Assuming it hasn't already been done (and I missed it), or its hard-lined into the game itself:

A mod that would allows trees to drop more than 1 (one) log at a time when cut down.

The deal is, most trees in the real world could be used and cut into several logs (or even planks), instead of just a single chunk per tree.  Not only would this allow you 'not' to have to clear-up your entire map if you need wood resources, but would dramatically increase the usefulness of wood-burners and the like when you need a type of coal for forging.  So, can it be done?
