You could also use the FTB launcher and download say, Direwolf20's modpack, which creates it as a seperate installation.  Its currently 1.4.6; and then just use the mods already in it as a base for what you want.  That's what I did.  Have 93 mods loaded up right now.  8)

I've had several of them affect either my islands or one of my neighbors. Volcanoes, tornadoes, rogue waves, fires.  There are several; and it depends upon either the campaign mission you're on, or your settings on a continious play map.

Ikaruga, every game session or story within the session, make a roll for either pass and fail and if it fails, come up with a situation that forces the dynasty to pay for things that were unexpected; like the lossing of a trading vessel either to the warp or to mauraders; or one of their captians caused a mutiny.  It would restrict access to resources during that story, and can lead to more meta-gaming that can affect the larger story, if you're creative.

Given the way chunkloading mechamics and hte like work; I wouldn't even consider trying to do anything with finite water systems.  You'd drain your area of the map dry over time, and then whenever new chunks are loaded there would be hendously massive lag as the new water levels try to balance themselves out.  It makes me shudder just thinking about it.

Once I heard about this I pillaged the interwebs for information and got my hands on a couple of the books.  Rogue Trader seems more of my style over say, Deathwatch or Dark Heresey.  Space combat, Rogue Trader dynasties; the ability to 'own' planets and resources that can have both realistic interpretations and gaming experiences... I'm sold.

The possibility for a grand space opera also is very enticing.  I've never gotten to play any of the great sci-fi RPGs like Traveler before.  If you host a game online, sign me up.  8)

Its sounds like an enhnaced version of Fate/Hero/Courage/Willpower points that characters can 'spend' to gain automatic successes in their actions, or to ignore a detriment for a specific time, except on a grander scale.

Politicians and leaders have known for a long time that public pressure, and opinion, have just as much weight as any sort of physical blow could.  Whole governments are toppled by public opinion, so drawing bigger crowds and not able to save face and keep the masses happy end up doing the same thing; failing, usually in very interesting ways.  (The Roman Empire, anyone?)

All the same, its good to hear from you, Lord Dullard; and that you're still on task and mostly on schedual with Cult.  Keep up the good work. 8)

Is there any sort of meta-gaming elements, or perhaps the chance to delve into strategy-types, as well as having RPG characters? Say, after discovering some lost ruins, the group decides to plant down their own city over the site to hide the fact they're digging for whatever lost knowledge they can, and perhaps even threaten the religions on a larger scale than just the personal?

You can always design your own ship that is both Career AND troop transport, although you'd probably have to classify it one or the other.

It may have not have been by choice.  We all know that life can take unexpected turns.  For example, the ZanMgt developers of Blockade Runner were all down with the flu the week before and after Christmas, and are still trying to pull themselves from the funk of illness over the holidays.

In truth, we have no way of knowing what hapened until we're given some sort of information about it.

No, Alkhemia.  When a creator agrees to host a Kickstarter Campaign, they sign a contract saying that they can and WILL be held responsible for any rewards, offered goods/services, and products that are listed.  If he 'jumps ship' as it is, Kickstarter, Amazon, and those who put the money forward can legally take him to court over the breach of contract.

But this is game developement, creating software from scratch can take months or even years, and can often take longer than what was originally thought.  If we start putting our own expectations onto such things, then we become no better than the multi-billion dollar game publishing companies everyone likes to bad-mouth.

All I say is: Give him time.  Its been less than three months.  If nothing comes out in another three, then start to worry.

The last update on the Developement Blog was 11/13.  Not too long ago; especially given the utter silence that some devs provide.  Honestly, I'd rather wait and see; but then again, I never got the chance to opt in for Cult's kickstarter.

There are always security concerns, regardless of what you're using. So long as a program connects to other computer systems outside of your local machine, there are always weaknesses, loopholes, and coding faults that allow anyone skilled or clever enough to work their way through them.  It doesn't mean its going to happen to you, or that its overly common on a large scale.

My personal experience is that if you're careful not to do something stupid, you should be just fine.

Sadly, with the seeming collaspse of the PC market, Nvidia is having to change the focus of its hardware production in order to keep up profits.  But with the ability to stream on computers and the like, it could also have the side-benefit of boosting the PC market once it takes off; when people rush to get acceptable hardware in order to do so with their favorite games.
