Other Games / Re: Settlers 7 - RAGE AT THE MACHINE
« on: December 06, 2010, 10:26:55 pm »
Its all a point of view, really.  As I've said, Ubisofts' DRM never bothered me, and like 95% of people in teh world, I have a full-time high-speed internet connection (cable), that I'm on with EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY, ALWAYS.  A DRM that requires that I'm online all the time? So what? I'm already doing it!  :P  Now it can be a hassle with people that have to move around alot and whatnot, but shit, just about anywhere you go you can get free wifi connections and the like. It isn't that big of a deal; and people make a mountain out of a mole hole.

And the fact of the matter is, people are still buying the software and the games, Settlers 7, Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood are all making a killin', even with the DRM.  If you want to complain about something, complain about the ever-rising costs of buying the games. *Sighs* I remember when a PC game was still worth 30$ instead of 60$.  :'(

Sergius, there were already something like 9 patches released for Elemental: War of Magic, which made the game very much playable and stable.  The point of the matter is, with the 1.1 patch, they're completely re-doing several features of the game, changing how it works on a fundimental level.  Its big enough to be a whole darn expansion.  But its still in beta; who the hell critizises a program that's in BETA when they play it for free? No one, cause it would be stupid to try.

Now, if you want to play Elemental, just install the 0.9 patch, and there you go.  All the problems are gone, and the game is very much playable then.

That's the whole point of it being a 'Beta' patch.  They are making significant changes, and none of it is optimized yet.  If you don't want to have to deal with it on an older PC, then don't install the beta patch.  That's a failure on your part, not Stardock, or even Brad Wardell; sense he's passed it to the new guy and is strictly AI coding now. lol.

*Shrugs* It just never bugged me. It wasn't overly invasive or anything, unlike Steam and Games for Windows Live, which sucked big balls.  The autopatcher that comes with Ubisoft DRM keeps everything up to date without having to worry about any of it, and you can access your saved games from any computer with the game that you log your account onto; which is awesome if you move computers alot.

Okay, first off, the DRM system has had most of the kinks worked out of it, anyway.  Secondly, Lordcooper, that's a graphic-engine failure that I've seen before.  The game latest patch is 1.10.233 or something like it.  1.10 for sure; not 1.1.   8)  You might want to go ahead and re-install the game from Steam, making sure to delete all the files related to it and the TBYB you had installed earlier.  Also, there aren't any cracks for the newest patch, and Settlers 7 has so many features intigrated directly online that you wouldn't want to flip Ubisoft off, anyway.

Take it from someone who knows.  :P  I pre-ordered S7 nearly six months before its release, got it and installed it the same time. I'd beaten the campaign within 74 hours of continious play; during which they had released three patches to fix in-game screw ups.  Of course, the DRM was an up-and-down rollercoaster ride, but I didn't have too many problems.  Atleast until I'd uninstalled it and decided to get a crack copy of Assassin's Creed 2 with a private server.  It ran and played great and I beat it, uninstalled, then went back to S7 only to find it wouldn't work.  :'(

Come to find out, the cracked launcher changed the Ubisoft DRM host parameters for every program that used it, fucking with every other game.  Problem's solved now, but let it be a lesson to you! Mwahaha. Anyway, I hope you get the game working agian, and if you have any specific  questions, PM me.

P.S. I'm the user Ryanhenning in the Ubisoft forums; and used to be very active, even to the point of providing a point-by-point starters guide for everyone who needed help in getting into the game. lol. C'ya later.

I just checked the links you provided, Trappin, and sadly while the 'forum' was archived on that website, almost none of the pages and topics were.  Its basically an empty shell. *Sighs and bangs head* I've provided as much information as I could; but if anyone can find the whole Diggles' forum archived, even if its in a different langauge, let me know.  Perhaps using Google Translate would help. At this point in time, I'm just majorly pissed at Strategy First.  >:( >:( >:(

Sadly, Strategy First has dumped its entire forum, including those for Diggles.  None of them work anymore.  Its like they wiped the game off the map.  :'(

White Wolf's new Scion: Hero games has it so that you'll get a number of automatic successes when performing basic actions while having points in the Epic Attribute that mirrors the regular attribute.  Say you have to roll 4D10s for an action that requires Strength; you then add a total number of automatic successes to that based on each dot in Epic Strength you have; so in this example with 4 dots in Strength and 2 Dots in Epic Strength, you'd roll 4D10 and add something like 16 (I think, no real familiar with the system) 'extra' successes to it.

Its odd, but it makes for a crazy good time in RPed in a good group that knows what they're doing. At higher levels, a 'God' character can lift an entire mountain and toss it ontop of a Titan's head. XD

I have played them both before, I enjoyed them. lol. The ability to go out and control several different systems all at once, you have to be strategic in your thinking or otherwise you'll get overrun.  The resource management could be a bit better, but its still good. lol.

The sequel adds a new set of custom game options, as well as a decent add-on to the origins campaign.  Its alright, pretty cool.

I miss games like this.  Its more realistic than say, Sins of a Solar Empire, but it doesn't have many of the building options people are used to in a real-time strategy game.  lol.  Too bad though.  In my opinion, games like this are almost as abscure as Dungeon Keeper is to the new generation of games. This is the quintisenail(sp?) PC gaming experience, how its meant to be.  8)

DF Modding / Re: Dwarf Therapist (LATEST 0.6.5 11/11/10 see first post)
« on: November 15, 2010, 02:36:57 am »
The military aspect of DF is one of the most complex (and for me, the hardest) aspect to get into.  I can build gaint monuments, mine straight into Hell; I can even create a Dwarf Monument built of ice in the coldest northern reaches; but for the love of me I cannot set up even a simple military and choose their equipment and uniforms.  I cannot tell you have many games I've been killed on because I couldn't get a squard organized and put together to defend a single (OVER-FORTIFIED) entrance into my entire complex.

Traps help, but it cannot stop a mass of goblins (or elves, for that matter) from coming over the horizon to butcher me.  :'(  So I'd be VERY VERY VERY bloody happy to see Dwarf Therapist make strides toward being able to offer a simple UI solution to the complexities of the DF Military.  And I'm sure several of us would agree.  ;D  So here's my pre-plot THANK YOU!!!  8) 8) 8)

Technically, Diggles is in 3D.  Everything has depth to it, and you have nearly full zoom control.  The difference is is that they made it look almost like a side-scrolling game.  But then, I like the uniqueness of it myself.  lol.   As for using Diggles as a DF port... No. I don't think it'd work.  There's just too much programming that'd have to go into it and you'd end up having to tear everything out, anyway.  You'd probably spend less effort building one from scratch.

I had no problem playing Fallout: New Vegas on my computer, once I got the two patches that were released one after the other.  8)  But it was just like Fallout 3, so I got bored of it quickly after one go.

Creating a massive arena and dropped dwarves into it one by one to be slaughtered by captured goblins or even a mega-beast isn't the sort of evil I was thinking about.  Then again, its always fun to screw up and kill everyone. Haha.

Not quite the DK3 everyone has been wanting, but then agian, it is its own company, with its own game, doing its own thing.  But I want t oplay a bad guy and kill goodies again.  I playe the good guy in literally EVERYTHING.  Oblivion: good guy.  Dragon Age Origins: Good guy.  Hell, even Mass Effect 2 and all three of the Fable games: A GOOD GUY.  Gah.  My only way to get away from all of the goodie-two-shoeness is from games like Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius.  Mwhahahahaha!

Lol. I checked that myself.  Whatever FPS hardcoding that should have gone into it is just as messed up as the rest of it, especially when everyone is stuck with only 5FPS. But I set it as 60 in my registry and tested it, just to make sure.  Was getting 58-60FPS.
