Are you the same NRN_R_SUMO from Warcraft 3's Clan SWWT?

DF General Discussion / Toady's Grand Fortunes
« on: March 11, 2010, 12:57:41 am »
Before reading note that all information I have listed here is already public information, I've only grouped it and put together here.

I've been seeing a lot of accusations lately thrown about toady's grand fortunes of donations, so I decided to get some rough figures together for people to think about.
Hopefully this will clear some things up for those people.

I tallied last years numbers from the announcements, you might note that febuary last year was roughly the same as this one as well,

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll do that now actually, for a decent bacholer pad if I can find it, but if someone actually knows his actual rent disregard this.
Also does he have a car? I don't so I save bundles already there.

Looking at rents in his area here http://www.rentals.com/Washington/Bremerton-Silverdale/
I have come to a rough figure of 825$ a month for renting a fairly modest but comfortable place. (But what if he has a mortgage?)

$32516.44
-$9900.00
$22616.44
Anyone from the area have a rough grocery bill?
Insurance for the home?
Does he have any medications or health issues?
How much furniture does scamps tear up on him?
Car Insurance (if he has a car, and if not, bus pass or taxi fees?)
Does he travel anywhere out of town?
What does toady do for fun, and how much does it cost him?
Old loans to pay off?
How much can he put away for a rainy day?
How much can he put away for retirement?

If you factor that all in, money can disappear very fast.
I dont need to worry about the majority of those expenses, which is why I can afford living on $10800, and why other young people like me in college, can afford to do so.
Considering how talented he is, how much of a following he has, and all those other factors, he could be working for some big game company as a programmer making around $80000 more than the $32500 quite easily.

Anyone who thinks he is tossing our money around and not giving anything back to us is simply a fool.

I'm going to make a donation now myself, and it will be the best 20 dollars I have ever spent in my life.

Edit: Locking the topic as it seems to be giving nothing but grief even though my intentions were to help toady get donations in some of the lesser donation months, and show some of the possible donators who are not in the real world yet what it takes for a person to live.

I just tallied last years numbers from the announcements, you might note that febuary last year was roughly the same as this one as well, so this seems like a decent life to many at first, but I can't say I've ever checked rent in toady's area..

I'm personally living for 10800 a year roughly, but that isnt considering my tuition of 3000.
my own rent is 550 a month, I spend 100 dollars in groceries a month and have 250 spending money.
Serves me pretty well given my active life style, I do often buy things on a whim, but I dont smoke, I drink cheap if at all, and my electricity and internet are inclusive to my rent.

edit: I think I might also make a new thread about this to show more people the rough funds I've calculated.

You know, I'd probably be able to demolish the arena if I just maxed wrestling skill and shield skill.. and just had a wooden shield
Would that be in the budget?

I find it more of a challenge when you dont have everything you need or want.
I try to find very flat areas. I am currently on a map which seems devoid of stone other than that in my stream and waterfall.

Cleared hundreds of trees for farmland and have made above ground houses in crazy manner. :D

lock the hammerer in a small room to berserk him and capture in a cage trap. Place the cage in the throne room connected to a lever, and have him guard the kings body in such manner.

Building a fortress entirely out of water. (Yes Water)

It's possible to make the walls via massive floodgate useage and mechanisms.

I actually ran out of stone at one point, was really weird.

Can't you even mickey together your own random item creation?  Like I said, I have no experience with this thing, but it should have a command to roll a random number.  Then just take the output from that and assign an item to each number.

I COULD, but the If/Than/Else chain would be ridiculously long. Like, 400+ lines long.

I tried circumventing the problem a second ago by having a dummy unit right beside the unit die, drop from a random item set, and have the unit pick it up immediately.
It worked.
And then I ran into another problem!

For some unexplained and defective reason, you cannot set item drops to a unit with triggers, so my idea of having units be created and killed in a row is moot.

Seriously Blizzard, what the carp are you doing.
Your editor is missing things it should have, your B.Net is overrun with hackers, trolls and viruses, and the game itself is currently bugged (When playing on B.Net sometimes you will immediately get a fatal error which causes a CTD(And still adds a loss to your record, I might add!))
Please stop off-topic ranting. :/

I keep checking here seeing updates hoping its deon with some new feature for me to check out, or possibly a bugfix to a current game crashing bug from when I tested last week.   :D

DF General Discussion / Re: What does it take to go multiplayer?
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:32:04 pm »
DF Multiplayer would require its own seperate client based off the games sourcecode.. which I doubt will be released for some fair time, as toady hasnt even told us what all the personality skills do yet. :P

I'm no expert programmer or anything, but I Do have my hand in it now and then. The console would have to control a diff civ than the regular which would be patched to act as the games server, controlling all the placement of the units on the grid most likely through memory editing, as I do not believe npc's can as yet be designated to do tasks.. but in the case they are that would make it even easier. as you'd only have to mirror the designations and commands.  ;)
Designations would be client side of course, as server side would cause jumbles of dwarves fighting kobolds for building walls, resulting in spam job cancellations.

Surely it'd be more appropriate to upload to the DFFD?
or even just an image hosting site since its a jpg.
imageshack is what I use, its pretty decent and quick too. especially if you get the toolbar.

I used to play brass.
Any chance for a baritone/trumpet/trombone? (all are written the same)
