Armok's personal adamantium space elevator is currently out of service.  Please use the stairs to your left.

Armok made the dwarves to dig a staircase out of this monstrosity...  :o

Building destroyer diplomats are a bit of a problem currently. Buildings don't have a "belongs to [...]" sign, so a building is a building, no matter who built it. And building destroyers do destroy buildings, no matter what. It's somewhat random - sometimes they'll smash everything they see, sometimes the just destroy a few doors when they're to lazy to open them. Walls can not be destroyed by anything once they're finished. But if they're only partially built (where dwarves couldn't pass through anymore), building destroyers can topple them. Even the good old firey clowns from 40d could do it.

Build a forum (public meeting and discussion place) for your dwarves and release them there?

Not to forget captain Ironblood's legendary cabinet (or was it a coffer?) in Nist Akath... Yep, dwarves have a strange choice in weapons sometimes.

If you're unlucky, they would kill him, but it's not very likely especially if he's armored. Just capture a few dozen goblins and you've got enough training material for a while.

The standard setting is + - * / on the Numpad of your keyboard. If you're on Laptop or don't have a numpad for another reason, you'll have to rebind them (esc->key bindings or something like that)

Also this is a pretty polite forum though it's inhabited by psychopaths... nobody gets flamed except the occasional elf or noble ;)

Everybody can do it... if the pastafarians can, why can't we  :P

But honestly, that whole "blood for the blood god" is kinda creepy (a parody on existing religions at best), aside from making a rather nice refrain for hymns and such. If it's all about the booze and beards though, just go to a bar some time and you already have your church, complete with a community, drunken chanting and cleaning from all sins (*hurk* ;) )

Won't work, though the idea seems dwarfy.

They will freak out, no matter how safe they are. As long as they can see it, they'll run. Maybe you should poke their eyes out or something...  :P

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: cage with lots of animals missing

Yep, they do. A dwarf can haul a bin of lead bars or a cage with 20 elephants, 44 horses and a hoary marmot - but it does take some time.

While we're on the subject: water and magma combining create obsidian where htey meet, but what about two pumps pointing at the same tile, one pumping magma and one water. will that one tile become obsidian? or just water or magma.
Code: [Select]
->?<-

Obsidian, as always when water and magma touch. Why would it do something else when the to liquids are pumped?  ???

Sadly, there's no way to build a repeater without some mechanical knowledge and potential for Fun. As I said, link the spikes to a lever and let a dwarf pull the lever, if you don't want to build something complicated.

Is this what you meant to say?

Yep... that happens when posting after a whole weekend of party, alcohol and sleep deprivation. Trying to build without any knowledge of water pressure and similar details can be great source of Fun, though...

That's what I like about DF... in other games, people would say "This landscape is totally bugged!", in DF it's "Neat, I got a river flowing through a volcano!"  :P

Anyway, the weirdest map I got had a major river (around 30 tiles wide) with a giant cliff on one side and completely flat tundra on the other. The high side also got a magma pipe going all the way to the top, many levels above the surface of the river. I dug a pipe from the magma to the river and made delicious roasted carp. That was back in 40d though and I lost the worldgen :(

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/40d:Repeater Page is for 40d, but the principle hasn't changed in v31.
You just link a pressure plate inside the repeater to your spike trap. Another (not as reliable) possibilty is to have a 2 tile room with two pressure plates, both linked to the spikes, and drop a kitten in there. It will randomly walk over the plates and trigger the spikes.
Sadly, there's no way to build a repeater with some mechanical knowledge and potential for Fun. As I said, link the spikes to a lever and let a dwarf pull the lever, if you don't want to build something complicated.

Upright spike traps don't jam. They need to be connected to a lever (or pressure plate) and only do damage when the lever is pulled. It's most elegant to set up some kind of repeater (powered by water or kittens), but linking all the traps to one lever and setting it to pull->repeat is the easiest way.

But why would you want to put anything in your pit anyway? Just make it 15 levels deep and enjoy the splatter.

Magma is the dwarfiest way... you'd only need a way to drain it when all the gobbos are nice and crispy. It'll even burn all the useless stuff and only leave iron and steel items.
