DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Caravan problem
« on: November 16, 2009, 09:34:56 am »
That's another thing, what about all the gear they dropped, should I stay clear? Or does it just count us unowned?

That's yours now :) but consider it on credit as they'll count it in the profit/loss calculations.

Cool, looks like it was just all tower cap logs anyway, so not too much to pay back. Thanks for the help.

As long as this doesn't happen too often it shouldn't be a problem. I'd recommend some favourable trades next year though to balance up the cost of goods they lost this time around.

DF Gameplay Questions / Caravan problem
« on: November 16, 2009, 08:58:32 am »
A cart from the dwarven caravan got stuck on it's way into my fortress just as a 40 goblin siege army decided to rear it's ugly head. The cart was annihilated of course, and now the I'm being told there are no merchants trading right now, even though the rest of the caravan is still there. I can deal without a trade for this year, but is this going to cause problems from here on out? Will I still be able to trade with them in future? Will they start attacks on my fortress for the death of their compatriots? I'd rather have some idea now so I can revert to my last save, instead of playing another year only to get attacked.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Dragons

Yeah, my first dragon was zombified, so obviously already rotten, this one was regular so I don't see the problem. Still, lots of bones for crafting left over anyway.

Huh, wiki says otherwise.

Can dragons only be butchered if they have been caught live in a cage? Just killed one and was looking forward to using the skin but I'm being told there's no unrotten butcherable animal available.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Item ownership
« on: November 15, 2009, 11:04:48 am »
Short of killing the dwarf in question? No.

However, I believe if they have a room and a cabinet they will store their spare clothing there, so that might help. Dunno if they'll gather their discarded underwear though.

Recently, I've noticed that even dead dwarves retain ownership of their items, preventing me from getting rid of the XXpig tail sandalsXX that litter my fort. Your only solution may be magma cleansing or atom smashing. Setting them on fire via dragon breath might also work.

Attempting atom smashing but most of the time the dwarves building the bridge move the clothing out of the way before it's completion.

DF Gameplay Questions / Item ownership
« on: November 15, 2009, 12:13:45 am »
Is there any way to remove ownership of items? My fortress is littered with discarded clothing and in one case a leg torn off by a zombie dragon that my dwarves will not dump due to them being owned. I'm quite house proud when it comes to my fortress and would like to tidy all this up.

Use 't' to actually look -inside- the building.

A building can "contain" items. And if you don't have enough hauling to both a food stockpile and a refuse stockpile...

Ah! I was wondering why it wasn't possible to see items craftsdwarves were working with as well. Yep, the place is a mess apparently, thanks very much  :)

DF Gameplay Questions / Miasma issue
« on: November 13, 2009, 12:04:49 pm »
My butcher's workshop has started constantly pumping out miasma even though there's nothing in there. I've stopped all butchery and sealed the room off in the meantime, but why is miasma being created when I can't see any rotten remains (or anything else for that matter) on any tile in there?

Have you tried marking the objects as forbidden? I'm having the opposite trouble, loads of owned clothing lying around my fortress that my dwarves just won't pick up, the place is getting messy.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Physical damage

yeah, brain and spinal damage prevent your soldiers from ever sparring again, if he's already a champion let him be, else, promote him to the Department of Dwarven Veteran Affairs

So he won't spar, but can fight? This guy was tearing goblins to pieces before someone got a lucky shot in on him, I'd hate to take him off the military roster.

Those are pretty minor wounds actually. Check the wiki-- http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Damage

if bedrest doesn't work, I suggest water therapy.

He's already rested up and is walking around, this isn't something showing up as a wound on a regular body part that he would rest for, it's added to the end of the list whereas everyone else doesn't have 'lower spine' on there. I don't think it's showing the same colour as a moderate wound, that's more like a dark yellow according to the wiki.

DF Gameplay Questions / Physical damage

I've had a look at the wiki for this and not found anything specific for permanent damage, but it doesn't look good anyway - my only champion took a pretty bad blow to the lower body, enough to make it go yellow (break), and then had a lengthy recovery period before getting back up on his feet. Looking at his damage report now bottom his lower spine is seen in brown. I'm guessing this is denoting permanent damage, but how bad does it being in brown mean? Can he still fight or should I just pull an old yeller?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Animal cleaning
« on: November 12, 2009, 01:50:00 pm »
Unfortunately, coverings don't work that way, last I heard. Instead of having a blood- and vomit-covered cat, you'll have a blood-, vomit-, and water-covered cat.

Next version, you'll be able to actually clean things, with soap. Imagine that.

I can't wait til the next version dammit  :(

On a possible related note the little bastards (along with every other animal in my fort) are now blocking up the corridor leading to my well, are they trying to get to the water or something? Wth? I've got soldiers in there who are supposed to be on duty who can't get out.
