If the consumption of alchohol is greater than the production, you'll never run out of barrels.

If it's less than the production, then you should eventually run out, assuming you don't run out of something else first.

It is a known fact that once light has touched a location in DF, it is forever deemed "outside" and "light". The underground is dark and subterranean. Therefore, it has never been touched by light. This means that either light was created after the world formed, or the world was created exactly as it was: if the dwarven world formed the same way Earth did, then everything would be "outside" and "light" because while the planet was forming, it would have been touched by the light of its star.

Thoughts?

By the way, the fastest way of deploying magma is to have it in a constructed cistern above the target, then cause a cave-in instantly destroying the entire cistern. But that's only if you measure time in how many frames it takes. In real-world time, it'll take forever.

I heard somewhere that naked dwarves can carry around cages with firey things in them without dying. But I think that was 40d.

I seem to be against the norm here. I start with a vertical entrance, then make it horizontal through constructed walls. Flat maps can make for some great over land constructions.

I also do this.

If you wanted magma to be involved, you could make it like this:

Level +10: platform level.
level 0: walking level.
level -1: magma level

When the platform falls, it should crush the floor of the walking level into nonexistence, making everyone fall into magma, killing them twice.

You could combine it with doors, so that when they open a door, it drains a room partially. That would be detectable by pressure plates.

As for the doors and miasma and stuff, how do you door off a 3+ tile wide hallway without putting a wall in the middle of the way and choking traffic?

Build a wall next to the middle door's spot, build the door, remove the wall, build the other doors. Somehow, it works.

But be aware that if you dig next to a door that shouldn't be allowed because it doesn't have adjacent walls, the door will deconstruct. This does not apply to removing constructions.

In my experience, dwarves only wear clothes if they arrived wearing them, or if they're in the military. They don't actually have to do any military stuff or be on duty ever, but they have to be in a squad.

If you can arrange for him to fall unconscious and then be put in a cage briefly, then release him, he'll get a HUGE (temporary) bonus to happiness. But I haven't been able to make this happen reliably since 40d.

Annoyingly, no. But macros / autohotkey help a lot.

Also annoyingly, you can't designate in empty space, so if you wanted to make a huge platform extending outward, you'd have to designate it a little bit at a time.

I just use buckets and patience. It's the simplest method, and doesn't risk flooding.
