If you give the cat grasping parts, that is possible.  By default, I believe a cat has no [GRASP]-token'd body parts, so they cannot hold a weapon.  They can probably wear armor, though, unless their size is too small to allow even the smallest pieces.

There was a Cat Fortress mod for 40d, which made cats capable of doing all sorts of things.  It was pretty hilarious.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Has anyone tried duplicating the RAWs yet?
« on: January 05, 2011, 09:55:09 pm »
Just for the amusement I duplicated the birds creature raw.  Civs are:
Gremlins
Unicorns
Trolls
Dragons
Ogres

Embarking as gremlins, and they are apparently all Hunters.

Hair is a kind of meat now.  They mostly have meat from various primates, and whales.  They've also got "unknown frozen creature substance" from fire men, fire snakes, iron men, and forgotten beasts.

Bat men, giant cheetahs, and olm women are fish.

Whale tallow is leather.

Available cloth: fire snake cloth, olm leather cloth.

Handwear: Drunian kidney tissue gloves.  Giant cave spider frozen ichor gloves.

Extracts: "mountain gnome n/a" "dark gnome n/a" "giant tiger melted soap"

I embarked.

Everyone instantly set on fire.

Your settlement has crumbled to its end.

Maybe it's just my luck, but duplicating the raws for large numbers of creatures seems to have more interesting results--duplicating only a few raws usually just jumbled around which race took which role, and duplicating the helms raw the same, but every time I duplicated an entire large creature file, I ended up embarking with hydras and having my pet vultures eaten by ferocious gazelles.

DF Modding / Re: Mod Question.
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:58:11 am »
I haven't used it myself, but the "uses" summary in the DFusion thread seem to imply it can be used to bring along different races at embark and in migrant waves.

As far as constructing creatures--what has already been said.  Currently can only make embark-purchasable creatures, not constructed ones.

And with combining mods--as NecroRebel said, it's always possible, but sometimes tricky.  The biggest danger is always one single entry with a duplicate name sneaking in, since having duplicate entries makes the game become... interesting.

DF Modding / Re: Colors
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:53:39 am »
If you mean the color that appears in their description, like "his skin is ecru," then yes--just move the color definitions for the various parts under the respective caste, and make sure each caste has its own.

If you mean the tile, then what was said above--the tile color will be overridden by any job color.

Would you guys like it if I posted specific changes for things like status, health amounts, or inventory additions/losses at the end of the turn posts as well, or just leave them to the first posts to be checked as you will?)

(Yay, you killed your first monster!  And don't worry about the whole changing skills business, Dwarmin--your charactes will gain additional +1's, or higher pluses, over time... for example, practicing her martial arts enough on monsters (or chaotic neutral teammates that drop a stalactite on your head) will get Sally an additional +1 in martial arts.

Health & status post updated.)

(I don't think a pickaxe would be part of basic spelunking gear.  I can't really see how you'd need a pickaxe to explore a cave in a basic situation.  Creating new caves is not really part of basic spelunking.

And I'd rather not have people switch their skills.  You can blame me for missing out on +1s -- I am not too used to keeping track of all these stats and I do sometimes miss some.  Just ask me and I'll fix your result to include the +1, although I can tell you that a 3 in a cave of this structure still wouldn't find you a big rock.  (John only found a big rock because he rolled a 6.))

DF General Discussion / Re: Female Dwarfs and Axe Soldiers...
« on: December 12, 2010, 05:16:51 pm »
Although by default Toady's dwarven females don't have beards (check their raws--the tags for giving them beards are there, but commented out, so you can turn them on quickly if you want, which I always do) I always imagine them with them anyway.

As far as physiology, in addition to turning on the beard-raws for them, I generally imagine that testosterone distribution is a bit more equalized in dwarves than it is in humans.  Not to the extent of, say, hyenas (where females have more testosterone than males), but more even.  Thus heavier musculature, more "masculine" builds, and facial hair for the females as well.  They would thus tend to have smaller, flatter breasts, so pictures of dwarf ladies with massive knockers make me chortle to myself.

So basically like grueburger--they're all just hairy angry raging drunks, and the only time you can tell which is which is when all their clothes rot off and they refuse to put on new ones.
