Other Games / Re: "Choice of" Games
« on: April 24, 2010, 05:27:32 pm »
Just to clear things up for ya, Ioric.

Alternate Universe: An imaginary  realm, often a variant  form of the real world, depicting a different way events could have unfolded  or the universe could have functioned.

In other words, the guys who write these things can just make stuff up.

Even with a poorly done gender-swap thing where roles are reversed and so on.

Your only solution is to deal with it.

NOW BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND

I'd code one of these things but I don't really feel like it. So, bah.

EDITED WITH A BETTER DEFINITION

Choice of the Chrysallid.

stuff

I'm just leaping to the defense of Valkyria here. The cutscenes ARE skippable (as best I can remember) and you CAN save in the middle of a battle, although I only discovered you could do so near the end-game. It's in the system menu when in battle, which is kind of infuriating and unintuitive.

General Discussion / Re: Campaign to Arrest the Pope over Child Abuse
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:11:07 pm »
I don't have time to spare at the moment to watch those videos (then why're you posting on the internetlolz), so forgive me if there's some world-shattering detail about the pope being involved that I don't know. I'm not angry about your opinion, but the notion that the Pope's the ringleader behind all these abuse cases is, to me, absurd. He's an old guy who goes out and waves to people and performs mass. (AND COVERS UP ABUSE CASES YEAH /sarc) That's really about it.

In conclusion, priestly celibacy is stupid and the Orthodox church has the right idea, the Catholics should get with the program; if you only allow men to be priests who can resist having sex, then you're going to end up with all the deviants in the priesthood, with no licit outlet for their sexual urges to boot. Plus there's a pretty high rate of priests carrying on secret heterosexual (adult) relationships according to some poll I heard

what is that i don't even

That's only tangentially related and we weren't even discussing that in the first place. We're arguing over arresting the Pope.

I don't think there is one, so you're SOL unless you don't particularly care about the law.

I shouldn't have to explain what I mean.

So Hellgate is playable alone, eh?

*waves his pirate flag*

Oh, and this thread gave me the name of Nosferatu, and I've been searching for it for years. Yea verily, I am grateful.

I think I found a bug.

So I'm going along in my awesome Merchantman making bucketloads of cash, and then pirates attack. So far, no big deal. I shoot down two in as many shots, and then I press capital A to check my gunner's stats. The encounter suddenly ends. And, yes, there were more pirates around.

All this new stuff is great, by the way.

I want to enjoy this, I really do. Unfortunately, my computer has the little issue of being unable to run it smoothly, even with everything set to lowest and only going up against the one bot. It does look very interesting, though, so I guess I can roll with the console versions if they're good.

Well I loaded it up, made a dorf fighter, got some other dorfs from the tavern, and then went dungeon crawling.

Four dwarfs enter a room.

SUDDENLY

KOBOLDS EVERYWHERE

SERIOUSLY THERE WERE LIKE SIXTY OF THEM

The only survivor was the Paladin because he was awesome enough to take around ten of them by himself when the rest of the party was down.

Gee, sure is Bethesda/Big Corporate Hate in here. I honestly don't see what the problem is. Either it'll be moderately successful or it'll flop.

Oh, and yes, I think Oblivion was actually fun. Same with Fallout 3. Now, I'm not going to say that they're objectively good, because they are quite flawed in certain respects. but I had lots of entertainment with them. I mean, I load up Fallout, shoot a guy in the back of the face, watch his head fly fifty feet away into a bathtub and I'm content. Oblivion, I just go and sneak through the places before applying a liberal application of facestab. They're both quite entertaining.

And yes, I've played every mainline Elder Scrolls game, and Fallouts 1 and 2, and I had fun with them. The new games are different, but that doesn't mean they're worse off for it.
