Yes.

Do destroy carved out stairs, but only up stairs or ramps, probably up/down stairs aswell.

Press d then z

For downstairs you simply have to cover them over with floor tiles...

Hah, i had a similar one.
My staircase JUST narrowly missed digging into a magma pipe, if it had been 1 square over i would have dug right through the hot rock. Instead i dug ontop of the magma vent and saw it, i moved palces after that.

Did you embark on a goblin fortress?
if so they will be friednly untill a raid occurs by the goblins then they all spontaniously go hostile.
And being attacked by humans sometimes happens, if you look on the screen when you are going to embark and before you prepare for the journey.
Press tab a few times till a list of the civilisations come up (by that i mean the humans, elves, goblins, etc) and it will show if you are at war or they just come to piss you off.

On this note.

I have the "edges" on 2 tiles from the top
3 from the bottom
2 from the left and 2 from the right...

Is this ment to be how it is or am i suppose to be able to get the yellow x to every single tile on the mini map.

well depends where the water is.
if its like above ground.

Ok. The ~ is water
the . is normal land around the river
the _ are channels
the - are channels that will be dug out later..

= is rock
  . is ground underneath the tiles that will be channeled out later.

A place to collect the water or making it so it goes FURTHER down.

that one is to make it go further down

But if  you dont want it to just like... build an area underneath it with the channeled tiles connecting up to it...


Now for the explaination.

Water falls have to have water going down more than 1 z level without ground touching it.
Meaning that the water wont go down, hit land and flow then go down again, it will flow through the channeled spaces which are directly above each other.

Now i dont know what to do with pumps since i usually just have it as a basin for my wells.

Youll know you have a water fall correctly when mist appears.

So, ive seen this screen of the list of all the kills a specific creature did, how i get to there?

Also it seems my dwarves have gotten bored and started MASS NAMING SWALLOWMEN.
They havnt even done anything noteable, havnt killed one thing.
WHY?
