Other Games / Re: Your first Steam purchase
« on: July 23, 2013, 11:51:48 am »
Hmm... on September 16, 2008 I installed Portal and played that; loved it; but Steam didn't click. It wasn't until 26 February, 2009 that I downloaded Team Fortress 2, and was compleely hooked. I went on buying many games from that point on.

A few of those give me memories. Noteworthy...
- Section 8. (7 Sep, 2009) I am very sad that the game, or it's sequel, never really took off. I had so much fun with those.
- Nation Red (26 Sep 2009) - still one of the best arcade shooters I have played. I should do that again...
- 6 Sep, 2009 - Majesty 2 preorder. So much dissapointment there...
- Red Orchestra. 13 Dec, 2009 - Changed the way I played games, especially FPS games
- Dawn of War 2 - 12 Mar, 2010. I miss this game, and I really miss THQ.

Nothing else really stands out, but ahh the memories...
Also, I can really tell my financial situation at the time by my Steam history. :P

The RPS article linked mentioned Guns of Icarus...

...

Oh man, if we could get a Bay12 group going, I would so play that! Who needs artificially intelligent crew members when you can have REAL incompetence!

It's 23rd july here so maybe you could pick a winner already DG.

That sounds fair. DG, could you do us the favour?

Help me again, dear Bay12ers! There was an old action/point-and-click adventure game where you are infected with a disease, and spend the game looking for cure. Similar enough to Silver. I think it was Dark... something.

I apologize for relatively useless humour. Your posts just make me giggle due to associations :P

Vehicles in a megacity are actually very useless.  The only thing you can navigate with is a bicycle or similar size.  Anything larger gets gridlocked with the wrecks.

how big cities can be in dda? I'm playing for one week and I'm disapointed that I never spawn in a megalopolis :P
They CAN be massive.  In older versions I've had MASSIVE cities, with 4-wide roadways with small parks in the middle!  It was still a rare spawn type though...

What we need is a few world gen options for things like "dump me into the middle of New York".

"There are still no cabs..."

Hurray for embark! Could I request a future spot? I would like the first Jeweler that dares come around, and I would like to bejewel everything.

EVERYTHING

Your Fortress shall be bedazzled!

I remember the KS game I mentioned! It's not... quite the same, and only currently available for Apple devices - but may be worth a look (Android coming "soon", PC coming "maybe eventually")

There was a Kickstarter game that was similar enough - spacecraft and crew. It dissapointed many contributors, but has conflicting reviews. Does anyone remember the name?

Cataclysm has an Android version. Not sure how well it works.

Strange Adventures in Infinite Space is a fairly similar game in most ways, but lacks the crew-handling component.

It's also pretty fun an addictive.

The new addition to the series is in dev at the moment and is worth keeping an eye on if you liked the others.

I think you mean this:

I got that game, and it's entertaining. Combat is still outside of my understanding (Everything kills me. everything.) but the roguelike feel is awesome.

Play With Your Buddies / Re: Marooned in Morrowind, a suggestion game
« on: July 22, 2013, 10:25:30 am »
Remember, our primary advantage over the game player is our ability to organize others and work with them and they with us, and we have KNOWLEDGE. Delicious, valuable knowledge. As I mentioned before, what we really want to do is become someone who can lead others to do things right. Alchemy is just a possible way to fund that, but if we can hire a wizard we don't actually need to learn any ourselves, or we can take our time.

This has given me a thought. Once again, I lack the specific knowledge, but here are some suggestions inspired by this and previous posts:
- Attempt to make explosive projectile "potions". Think Greek Fire, flasks of acid, smoke bombs.

- Attempt basic electro-magnet to test whether real-world physics work. I'm fairly certain that wire, copper bits and a lemon battery would do the trick. We could potentially create some powerful items, quickly, using electricity (from controlled lightning) or magnets.

- See if we can obtain some Dwemer items. Automatons/power armor suits could be our way to the future.

Technically, we are over the deadline but I personally want to see what Snow Fenrir produces. Snow, are you around? Will 1 more day help?
