I have a friend that had hearth attack playing Penumbra ... I am scared even to install it.

If you have a heart problem I wouldn't recommend it. This is scarier than any movie/game you will ever experience. Second one is even scarier because you have no weapons. Best played with a group of friends, so that everyone freaks out whenever something chases you down.

I like the wolffire articles because they really explain how pirating is a problem, but not THAT big of a problem. Also coolness about the buying trends of different OS groups.

As for the games, I've played both WOG and Penumbra before. Not a huge WOG fan, but I love penumbra. I've played lugaru a little bit and it's interesting, but doesn't feel like its a full game; it could be much better with the detailed mods were sure to get now. I expect a lot from Aquaria; I wanted to play it, but it was expensivish and I would have had to boot into windows before.

I'm finding Penumbra: Overture a scary-ass game. I'm just at the bit where you encounter your first dog and I keep chickening out whenever I try to confront/sneak past it! D:

The second one is much better. Tuurngaits (sp) and no weapons make it much more fun

EDIT: But play the first one first, the second one ruins the story for you.

Thanks for royal ludroth tips, I also noticed my armour was pretty bad so I've made some rhenopolos (or whatever you call it) for more defence ( yay! less time healing!)

I like upgrading my armor instead of making new armor... but I like my skills a lot. Luckily I don't think that R Ludroth has any damaging elemental attacks, so you could use whatever armor you wanted.

Of course If you like looking like a diver/bear then thats cool too.

The Barroth is giving me trouble though.  Barely enough time to get an attack in before he starts his charge again.

Edit cuz wtf happened to my msg:

You get used the the barroth, but he is still really hard to hit while raging (steam coming out of mouth). When hes like that, I go as careful as I can and try to trap him in a pitfall trap or something.

I've been trying to learn the lance in the arena, but I suck pretty hard. I can barely kill the great jaggi and I always die at least once (not using potions though). I used to use the GS and blocking->countering is much different from the hit-and-run I'm used to. I finally figured out how the counter works (counter->combo), but I still mess up and get hit a good bit. That little quick attack while shielding is also pretty helpful. I can't seem to keep the damn little jaggi away though and I generally suck pretty hard anyway. Any tips on using the lance?

For all crisis' shortcommings it has left a certain mark upon the industry and the mind of gamers. That alone means it deserves some recognition.

Maybe it deserves recognition, but it certainly doesn't deserve a 9.5.

But didn't you know? bad programming that artificially raises a games requirements is the most important thing in modern gaming.

They want your social security #!?!?!?!!!?

Yeah, I'm gonna give my name and SSN and possible banking info to someone in Singapore who has a terrible site................pfft.

Yeah that is a little bit much... Although the game is also just a little bit over my cutsie tolerance in the first place, so I'm probably not going to miss much.

Other Games / Re: Video Games Can Never Be Art
« on: May 04, 2010, 01:48:19 am »
Honestly the definition of art is so vague that I could take a pile of cow poo and put it on a pedestal, then claim that it is art. For more effect, I can even pretend there is actually a purpose behind it, bonus points if the reason is a satire on the world of art.

Video games are enormous projects that entertain, look damn good and generally convey some sort of message to the player. If that isn't a form of art, then I don't know what is. Maybe they should create video games with different art influences just to prove it (dear god.. an expressionism style videogame). To be honest, I don't see how they can't be art... a boardgame could be considered art depending on how you made it.

And yeah, I am an active civfanatics user so I knew it too :). I wouldn't overhype though, it will probably take a few years.

I only check on there once a month or so, but I didn't see a post here yet and I know b12 loves FFH! Now I'm going to go get excited and shut up for a few years :P. This will be glorious once it's released though!

For those that know about FFH2 the best (dark fantasy) civ mod out there, then you might be interested to know that it is now going the route of Counterstrike and becoming it's own game. Thats about all the info on it atm, but it seems to be very good news... loved this mod so much and still do. For those that love civ and haven't played FFH2... DO IT NOW!

maybe, but the barroth armour is pretty good, it has the highest defense and also has thunder. I just keep getting clipped when reloading, and it is hard to hit his thin, long body..and underwater just kinds sucks, when he is on shore I rock him

If you haven't already, then upgrade your armor. Every little bit helps. I don't know much about bowguns, but being in the water seems like it sucks even more. Stock up on that water ammo?

EDIT: Almost forgot... use some traps. pitfall are easier to make, so they are preferable, but the shock trap is nice to bring along too if you can. You get ALOT of easy hits and it will help you at least complete the quest and get enough loot for a gun upgrade or something.

My problem is generally that I accidentally waste all the traps and have to abandon. Sometimes because I misjudge how weak the enemy was, but usually just because when I place it it immediately leaves the area and never comes back. :/

I fought a qurupeco online that ran away 3 times after we set our trap. The damn thing finally made it back to one of the traps and we caught it, but since then I have always carried as many extra traps as I can fit. You could try trapping it when it starts sleeping (gotta leave it alone for a bit for it to sleep) and that should work as long as it doesn't regain too much health.

Does anyone know how to get the poisoned meats to work? I only once had a monster eat it (great jaggi) and it was sleeping already, so it was worthless. What monsters actually eat them?

And seriously, I f***ing hate Jaggi's. Endlessly spawning enemies annoy me.

Not so bad. They are easy to just ignore in any major hunt and if you need to gather, just break out the torch and they won't bother you.

BTW the search does go across all servers.

How exactly does the player search work? how expansive is it? is it just your server/gate, or is it across all servers in the category? (as in Rookie, Expert, Open, Recruiting.)

Not sure yet. I know that caps count in names and that it probably goes across the whole server. I suspect it searches all the servers.
